TW: I WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT

  • TRIGGER WARNING: Weight loss is always going to be a complicated discussion, so I understand that me talking about my health in such an unfiltered way may be uncomfortable for others. If you feel content talking about weight loss, health, eating or calorie counting may be difficult for you, then this may not be the best video for you to watch.
    Today we revisit the goals I set 100 days ago and talk about what worked and what, well, didn't. My health journey is about finding the best solution for me. Everyday I am getting more comfortable advocating for needs, while still recognizing its ok to want to change and develop parts of myself. I realize I do want to lose weight, and I am ok saying that. Its whats best for me, and has come out of a lot of self love and reflection on what I want most in life. You can want to lose weight, with out also wanting to fit into some sort of societal ideal. Sometimes weight loss is really just about getting back the opportunities and abilities that weight can take away from us.

    Weight loss happens in the kitchen not the gym. I say that as someone who struggled with her weight her whole life. My highest weight was 302 lbs now I’m 140. Calorie restrictions works. Sorry to those that upsets but it does. I just walked 3 miles a day 5 day a week with light weight training.

      @@jacforswear18 I don't think she meant what you mean. By calorie restriction she meant a slight calorie deficit, not starving yourself. Most sensible advice for losing weight. What has worked for me is honouring my first hunger of the day with an adequate meal that prioritizes protein. It doesn’t really matter if that’s at 7:30 am or 11 am so long as i respond to my first hunger with protein-rich, nutritious human food. It sets me up for success throughout the rest of the day. I hope this helps.

    Measuring and weighing food is a good way to see how much you are eating. Eat what you want, eat how you want but measure as you go, and you will see what you eat on the regular. If you want to reduce calories, you might want to start 2,500 and then go down. But again weigh and measure so you can SEE what you are consuming

    Just a thought, but look up a TDEE calculator online and use to define what your "cutting" calorie intake per day should be. The argument of "2000 calories what a normal person should eat" is the same kind of falsehood as believing that 1200 is the "perfect" calorie deficit for someone. I understand wanting to be numbers driven, and you totally can be(!), but I would hate for you to feel as those you are not eating enough at your size, especially if your activity levels will be increased. And this is coming from someone who used to weigh over 450lbs, so I 100% feel for you with wanting to just be able to do the things you want to do with your body.

    On working out every day: typically you shouldn't work out literally every day - you should have 1 or 2 rest days a week. But also, it's important to vary the intensity of your workouts: you're not doing full out high intensity workouts 6 days a week, but one day high intensity and the next day steady state. If we're talking strength, you're not doing legs every day; you're doing legs day 1, chest day 2, arms day 3... Some people work out multiple times a day, but varying the activities that they do and the intensity at which they do them. Finally, it's just practice and stamina. If you do it more consistently, the consistency will get easier.

      @@glumpot it's like a breath test, I don't know all the science behind it, but you could Google it to find out more. I think it's called the metabolic rate test. As far as your dietary needs and such, I think that would come from talking to you about your likes/dislikes, medical conditions, allergies or other food restrictions, your habits, etc. They can also have you do some blood work to find other imbalances. I would find someone to consult with, and definitely go with an RD since their education is actually standardized and significantly more comprehensive than a nutritionist

    I'm all for calorie restrictions if you want to but 2k might be too low right now. I tracked my normal food for 7 days to see where I was, then subtract 500- that's 3500 total restriction per week which will equal-1lb every week. My advice would be eat as many calories as you can whilst still in a deficit. It avoids chronic hunger which can lead to a binge episode. Best of luck!!!

    I will do it with you. I don't count calories, but I do intermittent fasting. I think for you since you don't like to eat in the morning, you should use that as part of your fasting window and increase it to an extra hour every week. I started with 10 hours and most of it is while I am sleeping. I am now at OMAD (one meal per day) and I feel great. That took me almost a year to achieve. I have lost 50 lbs since last May. Because of that, I was taking off one out of the two blood pressure medications I was taking and I no longer have cholesterol and anemic issues. Plus my immune system has highly improved. I do take ACV with mother pills, vitamins D3, Cod Liver oil, Magnesium, Calcium and Zinc. I also try to drink a shot of green tea whenever I remember. You are so right about rest between work out days. I still have about 100 pounds to go, but I no longer feel lethargic or have to take a nap during the day anymore. So I would love to join you and have someone to keep me accountable. I am still struggling with going to the gym, but I have been walking for the past 3 weeks and I walked almost every day this week. Let me know.

    Calorie counting/Math is your best bet
    A pound is approximately 3500cals. If you want to lose 1lb/week that means ensuring you have a -500cal deficit/day bc 3500cals/7days=500cals/day
    So if your fitness watch says you burned 2500cals today you should only have consumed 2000cals to stay on track to your 1lb/week goal.
    My goal is 2lbs/week. On avg with the amt of activity I do (mostly walking my dog and being on my feet as a nurse) I burn about 3200cals/day. To lose 2lbs/week I need to have -1000cals/day so if I burn 3200cals I can eat 2200cals that day bc 3200cals burned -2200cal consumes equals 1000cal difference for one day.

      God grant me the serenity
      to accept the things I cannot change;
      courage to change the things I can;
      and wisdom to know the difference.
      Living one day at a time;
      enjoying one moment at a time;
      accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
      taking, as He did, this sinful world
      as it is, not as I would have it;
      trusting that He will make all things right
      if I surrender to His Will;
      that I may be reasonably happy in this life
      and supremely happy with Him
      forever in the next.
      Amen.

    I’ve been working out and making healthier choices when it comes to food since around the beginning of February. I get stuck in ruts from time to time where I just lose all awareness of what I’m eating and not feeling like going to the gym, etc. But when you said you’ve been active for 100 days, that really hit me. It interested me and inspired me to break it down by days like that. There’s 365 days in a year, which means you were active, doing something good for your body, for your future, loving yourself for a 1/3 of a year. And with everything going on in the world right now and time flying by faster than usual, I think it is important to look at the bigger picture - not just how am I spending my time/ life throughout one week, but weeks turn into months and months turn into years, and we really need to look at what we are doing with our lives… so therefore, as I was watching your video, I made little checkboxes to motivate me to be active, drink 4+ bottles of water, and cut out fast food for the next 90 days, that’s 5 days a week leading up to me leaving for the beach on August 21st. Im super excited about this goal I just sat for myself and this new way of tracking and accountability. Thank you so much! Good luck this next month and remember do what works best for you, what makes you feel good, and what is attainable ❤️❤️❤️

    I faced the same question, how am I going to allow myself to eat when I feel genuine hunger while sticking to sensible (and practical) mealtimes? What has been working really well for me is a smart snacking rule. So I have my three meals at which I am allowed to eat anything, and if I get hungry between meals I can snack on only fruit and low-cal vegetables. One thing I can never again do, is binging on my favorite snack foods. As soon as I implemented this new boundary for myself I was no longer triggered to eat all the time.
