Great tips! I just received the Harley Davidson The Enthusiast Vol 107 magazine in the mail yesterday. You are featured in it! Great pictures and story! Congratulations 🙏🤘😎🇺🇸
Rickey, just opened my copy of the enthusiast and read that heartwarming, beautiful story. I saw that Canadian diner video a couple of years ago and I was crying with you, brother. I’m in tears again. Hope to meet you someday out there. Thanks for all you do and I pray for all God blessings to be upon you.
On long fun trips we only packed 1 pr jeans each, socks, undies & a couple bandannas. We bought t-shirts in the road. Leather jackets, 🧤, walking shoes. Business trips were enough clothes for a week. His in one saddle bag, mine in the other. Anything else was behind me on the luggage rack. If it wasn’t riding right he’d stop and let me readjust. He detested riding in the rain. Always pulled over & waited. Only dropped it once in Nashville when we were on a hill (driveway) waiting to pull out into traffic. His foot slipped and I fell off & rolled down the hill. Laughed my @ss off after I stopped rolling. No one was hurt. Best trip we ever took. Good, I miss him! 🪽😢
1:40 - When we did the Support Bikers Guinness World Record Poker Run we had a participant (it wasn't me but - who shall remain nameless) whose tourpack bracket actually broke through the underside of the tourpack because they overloaded the tourpack rack. These weight specs are no joke and are not to be disregarded or taken lightly (yes, pun intended). On a related side note: whether or not you pack right or overload, riders must be aware that the bike's center of gravity will change versus what riders are accustomed to for their around home riding. If you don't practice riding with all your baggage, you should ride more cautiously starting your trip until you're "used" to riding with the weight and balance changes.
Great advice. It's important to balance the weight and not go over the limits. Something else to consider is the Total Weight the motorcycle is rated to carry. The max added weight a RG limited can carry is 428 pounds (including any accessory, rider, passenger, and luggage)
This is important. I have a friend and our plan was to ride 1 day and go home the next day. But I was looking at his bike as if packing his whole house.lols. I was like bro lols. We are laughing like crazy. We are joking like, I hope you're not moving to a new house. The whole 10-hour drive is not tiring since we probably laugh like crazy for the whole 10 hours. Riders should have the initiative to bring what is needed.
Great advice! I pretty much just put all of my heaviest gear in a multipurpose motorcycle bag and strap it down to the passenger seat when I travel cross country. That way I don’t have to worry about what I put in my tour pack and bags. The most important thing NOT to do is bring junk you don’t need. Keep the clothes and shoes to a minimum. Keep the food to a minimum. Bringing all kinds of junk for emergencies is unnecessary too. When you’re strapping gear to your bike make sure you have as many points of contact as possible, make sure your straps and nets are tight and secure, and be sure to periodically check your gear as you ride. Gear will shift and you may have to adjust your straps during the trip.
Hi my friend 🖐so glad you are taking precautions for your Cross-country trip. I'm watching the Replay. Trying to stay cool here. Don't forget to stay hydrated. I'm just saying. I live on the West coast and believe me when I tell you that it gets hot here Take Care 😊😊
Reminds me of weighing up the gear for a draft horse going on a pack trip! The first thing you weigh is the food for the horse! Never overload your horse or you're in for an effed up day.
Riding from Massachusetts/Rhode Island line to Sturgis in less than a month. Thanks for the tips bro! Congrats on your article and front cover of Enthusiast . That’s awesome bro!
I haven't ridden in 40 years and didn't do much over 200 miles one-way, but you give good advice for balance and I don't think being anyone being OCD about it would be a bad thing. Fail to plan = plan to fail. Thanks 👍
Not only packing/over loading BUT proper tire inflation goes ignored as well! I am a firm believer in the little "airmoto tire inflator" its small and very convenient. You can set the pressure you want and it shuts off when its at pressure, very simple..
Great vid‼️‼️ I use one of the airplane luggage scales, when I pack. Also remember you can was clothes at most places so a lot of thing can be worn again , just keeps you from packing so much . 👍🏾‼️
I consider myself fortunate because of the fact that I was an avid backpacker and now I’m a western firefighter and in both cases I pack and travel minimally. My tool bag and jumper pack and tire inflator are the biggest things I travel with.
I'm trying to get better at it myself. I have to bring my tools and jumper/inflator. Have to bring my cameras... It's the clothes that I have to cut down on.
Great advice once again!! Weight distribution is so important and not over packing. Have a great trip to Cali. We're heading to Maine in a couple of weeks. Ride safe my friend
Another fantastic video, bro. I’m learning so much from you man. I’ve only been riding three years. Just starting to get into long distance travel thanks again Bro for the knowledge.
You’re on point with this video bro! You can’t be a “pack rat” with a motorcycle! Only the absolute necessities should be taken, and balance ⚖️ the weight out according to the specifications. I keep my tire plug kit and portable air compressor in my fork bag and tools under the seat of my bike. Thank you for this video about something I have been guilty of not doing properly! Have an awesome trip, safe travels and keep the rubber side down my brother! 🙏🏾✊🏾❤️✌🏾
@@JustGKue Believe me, as a rider you have inspired me tremendously, and I’m sure that most if not all of your subscribers, followers and the regular viewing audience would agree with me! Cool Vibes. ✌🏾
Good advice man, also love the artwork on your wall, thats wild. Never ran a bagger myself but I've had to get pretty creative with cable ties and bungee chords when riding. Way back at 17 I moved out of the house and put everything I owned on a little suzuki bandit 400 and rode for 3 hours. Didn't have an issue with the wind but I sure looked goofy trying to get off at the gas station. 😅 Respect from the UK. Ride safe!
Great information Kue! I've ridden for years and used to ignore this stuff. Afterall, I NEEDED that stuff. Fortunately, I never had an incident, but got tired of packing and learned the joy of traveling "light". The rides have been better ever since.
Great information as always one thing to add is checking your tire pressure on your bike and using the factory recommended tire pressure that’s on the label on the bike. Safe travels bro..
This is timely information, as I just read about MotoGaint. He lost his leg in a recent motorcycle accident. I believe he was overpacked on his motorcycle and improperly secured his items. Right before the accident some flew out of his bags. Give me your opinion. It is an excellent case study. He ironically filmed the situation. I love his content and have no ill intent towards him, but it is illustrative. This is a very important subject and we will all do well to pay attention. A smart man learns from himself; an educated man learns from others.
Great video, as the years go by the less I pack going on a week long ride from Boston area to Tennessee keeping it light, you’re on point with weight effecting your bikes handling. I have a saddleman bag that I mount to the sissy bar and sits on the passenger seat makes for a stable ride. My must haves are Tool kit, first aid kit, rain gear two days of clothes that’s pretty much it. Ride safe my friend
G Kue. Great job on this video. I use Harley’s onyx touring bag. I cut some memory foam and put in the front compartment. I use this as a backrest and leave the stock rest at home. A little less weight but every pound counts. Ride safe. Watch for idiots.

I've always been a little confused about the tour pack weight. Ok it says 30lbs. Is that a combination of pack and rack? If I'm thinking right it would be a total of both. Some don't have a rack and it would seem that to me the weight on the bearing surface of the mount is what is critical. So adding 10 more on top would in theory be overweight
