This is a detailed tutorial demonstrating my method of installing grips to a vintage or replica Graflex lightsaber. My preferred grip is from wannawanga.com
Cheers for this fella. Your videos are hugely helpful for someone like me who just got into the hobby and has no clue on anything. Can't wait to try my first install in a couple of weeks.
Rarely do I put the holes on at all anymore. They're really not necessary for most builds and doesn't really help with sound, unless the speaker is really deep inside the lower. I just cut the rivets or screws short so they're flush with the underside of the grip. Then just glue them on as described.
How's the sound output one these replicas? I'm looking at building an ANH replica and was wondering if the screw holes for the D-Ring would allow enough sound to come out
It depends on the situation. If I'm using a chassis that has the speaker higher up than the holes than I will simply pop the rivets and know the core out for added sound venting. If the chassis goes past the holes I will cut the heads off and glue them in place.
My apologies, I think I may have misspoke when I said the name of the shop in that video. Here is the link for the proper store. www.shapeways.com/shops/the-graflex-guide?li=pb
Pretty sure the hard plastic ones are correct. He's using the wannawanga hard plastic ones. In the movie you can tell they're hard plastic cause the bottom of one of the grips is snapped off in a shot.
that thin part from caliber is used for deep small holes. you can use that wider part behind digital display.not llike normal jaw.behind caliber has flat spot that move. oposite end where that thin thing mode. did ya know? xD ITS TOP SECRET and you can read it right away
"I'm not going to explain installing the clip its very basic" Yeah, because we have use a milling machine or carve out a channel for a steel part. SO much easier than gluing grips on. Pshhh.

Glad they're helping my friend!
Looks like a good technique, the mount especially looks helpful. Personally I’d have to use double sided tape, I’d get that glue everywhere ha
dude, bad ass. Great idea i was scared watching this like damn, im going to get that shit all over the hilt lol
Thank you for this video,do you make the holes for the rivet screw after or before you put the grips on ?

Where can I pick up that white plastic guide?
Awsome, thanks
where do i get a grip guide for a anakin skinnyflex?

Thanks for the guide. Quick question, don't you drill the holes in the grips ? For the rivets. If not what do you do? Cut rivet heads off ?

East Coast Sabers ah thought so. Just lay the rivet head down flush or into the plastic grip a little but not the metal.
East Coast Sabers You still need to drill the holes for the rivets, thats a tricky part, because I don't wanna mess up.
What did u use to cut the grips where the pilot holes are?
What grips are those? Because im looking at eco grips and at pre cut notched diffrence? ( im trying to build the most movie accurate esb saber)
Good video
HELP! I can't find that thing on shapeways ? Store doesn't exist?
My apologies, I think I may have misspoke when I said the name of the shop in that video. Here is the link for the proper store.

DO they have to be rubber grips to be considered a screen accurate saber? I bought cast plastic ones.

Question, how long are grips in the video (in inches) ?

Where can we purchase these?
Are you able to do an install tutorial using the padawan chassis
Not at this time. But using my other tutorial series and extracting the skills taught you can build the padawan as it is far easier to assemble.
I believe they used car wiper blades when they created the original props. We could still do the same.
That was proven false years ago. They were plastic "T" track runners used in old cabinets for their sliding doors.
I thought the bottom stamping was never seen in ANH, so how do we know which way the stamping is for ANH?
The bottom is never seen in ANH so there is no right or wrong way. The grips are for an ESB build.
Yeap, got that. I was just a little confused with what you said at the 15-minute mark 😅 All cleared up now!
I know your vintage is esb what are you going to do with the tgs and romans
TGS is already set up for ANH and Romans will be TFA since I can only use the KR Sabers 1" blade holder.
You make my life so much easier 😂
Hahaha, glad it helps!
putting glue on the edges of a grip is wrong. Center only.

15:39 who cares. its that simple. it other way in other shot. its that easy change lol thereis no correct way you can put it in 180 diff
