- Here is another rockin performance from Paul on the Last Resort 1987, This clip has very nice Hi-Fi audio, a rarity for this show. This performance is quite rare with no credits, as this song was performed last ,the show's credits began to roll shortly into the performace. Enjoy a period where Paul was truely rockin! the Russian LP and Run Devil Run are some of my favorite Paul periods/LP'S.

Who is backing him up in this band?
Its the Playboys, House band on the show. Steve Nieve kbds and Pete Thomas drums are still with Elvis Costello, Kevin Armstrong guitar (Bowie, Morrissey etc) is Iggy Pop's musical director and Steve Lawrence Fishman bass played with Hugh Cornwell (Stranglers), Chrome, Blondie etc.. I was there.
McCartney did an album of songs that he loved growing up in the 1950s and this song was one of them. He does a fine job with it - especially when we consider that he was in his mid 40s when he did this performance. I think it's funny when some of these people come to this video and comment that Elvis did it way better - or Eric Burden's version is the best. They all did fine covers of the song... but I still take Lloyd Price's original over any of them. He wrote the song and was the first to record it in the spring of 1952. It was released in April of 1952 and was #1 on the R&B charts for 7 weeks - and stayed on the chart for 26 weeks (that's a half of one full year). For me... Price's song was one of the earliest rock & roll songs. It sort of started rock & roll... for me. Elvis Presley's cover peaked at #15 in the UK and didn't chart in the US.
Elvis/Scotty in 1956 is the best.Paul's voice is not suitable for this song.

The instruments did a great job but, to admit, Paul couldn't sing this song well. The only vocal that goes above Lloyd Price's original performance is Presley. And to be honest this ain’t a Lloyd Price cover. This is a Elvis Presley cover and tribute too.
Hate comments like this. I also prefer Elvis/Scotty version while Paul is my music god, but you're comparing Delicious to Macintosh - Paul's doing a live performance, non-studio with a raunchier style and voice with a temporary band, intended to be a tribute cover and not a photographic repeat. Even Elvis' '68 comeback special can't be compared to his 50's studio version. Just different flavors on a different day. And Paul's like what, 40+ here..compared to Elvis' 20+. You can't compare Paul's voice at 21 (think "Long Tall Sally") to Paul at 44, and even at 70 he could still belt them out. Why don't we all just buy the original and forget about anyone bothering to cover a song.
