I've had the same issue very high prey drive when she flushes she will chase and continue to chase and leave it then come completely ignore my commands shes 7 months and had this problem for about month or 2 I was stuck on how to fix it this video was very useful thank you very much sir.
Ah well, we all need some correction as children. She indeed seems to be a special pup. I read recently that Ireland had implemented a new law to protect habitat for wildlife, particularly the hedgerows and other cover. I hope what I read was correct. We should do that here in the USA as well. Thank you for sharing your journey with Rua.
Unfortunately that's not the case, hedgerows and cover is being removed at an unprecedented rate due to intensive agricultural practices, with no end in sight.
@@springerspanielful , well curses. That article gave me a bit of hope. I was hoping at least one nation had begun to appreciate the value of game animals.
Hi George, my 10 month Springer has suddenly peed on the kitchen floor right in front of me 3 times in 2 days. I've had him 5 weeks and apart from a couple of toilet accidents, he's been good. What solution do you recommend? is the old adage of rubbing his nose in it any good? or washing the floor with some vinegar in the wash? I don't want this behaviour to develop obviously.
He may have developed a medical issue, I'd have him examined by a vet before anything else. As for rubbing his nose in it, certainly not, cruel and serves no purpose.
Do you use the long lead to teach recall too? I've started using a 10 metre long lead, often dropping it just to enable me to go get my 10 month Springer when he doesn't come back immediately. I go get him and bring him to the spot where he was called. Without the lead dangling behind him he's impossible to catch.
George, do your setters not stop and point the bird? Usually when dogs do this we here in the US use the term "whoa" to stop the dog. If you spot a bird out 100 or 150 yds and call or whistle "whoa" the dog should immediately stop and point the bird. Do yours just flush?
After your comment on another blog, I was at the gun shop this afternoon and I got a whistle, got home tried it and the dog run in the opposite direction, I must try harder??
George, I just saw the video with Ruaha. Good puppy you trained with a check cord. I'm at the stage where I am starting training my Llewellin to "whoa". I have never seen a video where you "whoa" trained a dog. Could you do a video of that? Thanks!

I do indeed if it's necessary, it's a very effective method.

If you look through my channel you will see many examples of my setters pointing birds.
