The name of the song is "Jesus Lord God over Me", not just "Over Me" in case anyone ever tries to look it up, a fantastic movie, not just one of the greatest car culture movies but a very important and pivotal movie that was the difference between the messages in 60's movies and 70's movies with some pretty profound messages in it, telling how the real "spirit of Americans" was starting to die off and how unique individuals were no longer tolerated by the "moral majority".
Love this song and movie, reminds me of us teenage rebels in the 70s. Ok,might be cracking on to 70, but hell and shit don't think I'll ever lose my rebellious streak! Lol
I've got a '73 Dodge Challenger in my garage. The interior still has that classic smell. I think I'll get in, inhale deeply, become intoxicated and then go watch Vanishing Point again!
Unfortunately they looked a lot better than they drove. The steering and braking are quite pathetic compared to modern cars. Look at the tires, a present day Toyota has more rubber than these huge engine cars did. Almost all American cars from the 70's were like that.
Back in the early 70s I saw this movie possibly ten times with mates at the drive in theatre in Melbourne. Unforgettable Kowalski performance.Still love it and I have it on VHS and DVD. Man would I love a 1970 Challenger and hit the highways
I was 12 when it came out, it was the movie every boy wanted to see. The culture of freedom in America in the 60s and 70s was so different than it is now. That car is still so beautiful.
No other song would have worked with movie's ending. At the height of it Kowalski had that grin and you'd think he liked the song and now what lay beyond the bulldozer blades.
Feeling kinda lonely, gonna be in town for only a few days at the most. I realize it's early but I'm getting kinda squirrely so I go downstairs for a toast. Clinking glasses, drinking fast and pretty soon I think I'll ask a lady for a dance or two. I found my legs and test 'em but my feet ain't where I left 'em and the music made me want to move. I got the rockin, rollin, reelin, feelin Somethin drunken's comin over me. Now somehow or another I am dancing like a mother and looking real cool. Thinking every minute while I'm out there spinning If I fall I'll really be the fool. Whizzing crazy, vision hazy, pretty soon collision made me end up down on the floor. The band was really playin, the guitar is almost sailing and the music makes me dance some more. I got the rockin, rollin, reelin, feelin Somethin drunken's comin over me. Well, now I'm really drunken and my heart it starts to thumping in my chest and ringin in my ears To start a conversation I recall a rare occaision and order up a round o' beers A woman walkin by me talkin and I reach out and snag a stocking, she's mad, I'm laughing in my foam Vanessa ain't his master, but I guess I must asked her somethin good because we're goin home I got the rockin, rollin, reelin, feelin Somethin drunken's comin over me. I got the rockin, rollin, reelin, feelin Somethin drunken's comin over me. I got the rockin, rollin, reelin, feelin Somethin drunken's comin over me. I got the rockin, rollin, reelin, feelin Somethin drunken's comin over me.
The lyrics (as far as I can make out). I've gone over the soundtrack version and demo version a lot of times, and have got as far as this. There are slight differences between the two versions, but they're both essentially the same... Verse 1 Feeling kind of lonely Gonna be in town for only A few days, at the most I realise it's early But I'm feelin’ kinda squir’ly So I go downstairs for a toast Verse 2 I'm clinking glasses, drinking fast And pretty soon I think I'll ask A lady for a dance or two I'll try my legs and test ‘em But my feet ain’t where I left ‘em And the music make me wanna move Chorus I got the rockin' Rollin' Reelin' Feelin' Something drunk is coming over me Verse 3 Now somehow or another I am dancing like a mother and I'm looking real cool Thinking every minute While I'm out there spinning If I fall I’ll really be the fool Verse 4 Wisdom crazy vision hazy And pretty soon collision maybe Knocked out on the floor The band is really playing The guitar is almost sailing And the music makes me dance some more Repeat Chorus Verse 5 Well now I'm really drunk, and Now my heart has starts to thumping And my chest is ringing in my ear To start a conversation I recall a rare occasion And order up a round of beers Verse 6 A woman walking by me talking I reach out and snag her stocking Jeez man I'm really laughing in my foam Finesse I ain't his master But I guess I musta asked her Something good because we’re going home Repeat chorus x5 (at least) Notes... - This is only my interpretation, and could serve as a starting point for improvements - In verse 1 it's definitely "toast" in the demo version (which does rhyme with "most"!), but it's a bit more ambiguous on the soundtrack - I'm pretty sure it's "squirrelly" in verse one, or an abbreviation of it - Verse 2 I've seen "tie my laces, test 'em" written, but I'm pretty sure I've got it down - "Something drunk is coming over me" seems right, but I used to think it was "Something drunken's coming over me". Fairly similar if you're singing along though
Feeling kinda lonely, gonna be in town for only a few days at the most. I realize it's early but I'm getting kinda squirrely so I go downstairs for a toke. Clinking glasses, drinking fast and pretty soon I think I'll ask a lady for a dance or two. I found my legs and test 'em but my feet ain't where I left 'em and the music made me want to move.
Now somehow or another I am dancin' like a mother and lookin' real cool. Thinking every minute while I'm out there spinning if I fall I'll end up being the fool.
Kowalski reachin' over to the glove box of his 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440, pulls out and drops a benny...feds sirens behind screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeamin vvvrrrrrrrrr vvvvrrrrrrrrr vvvrrrrrr...and Kowalski stomps on his left foot that activates the clutch, and with his right hand chops the pistol grip shifter in to 3rd gear and stomps his right foot on the accelerator
He stopped himself. Realizing his life was a serious of failures, because he stayed true to himself, he finally commited suicide. Rather kill yourself than submit to a cynical society. I think that's the message of the movie.
Always sad because this is “the end.” Kowalski could have made it. He gave up.. or rather, he gave in. We could all learn something about living (or not) from this movie. It was anti establishment before it was really a thing. All these people watching and waiting. “I’ll show you.”
This is actually one of my favorite movies.
And the nude girl on the 250 Honda.. sweet...
Me too!

Worth noting that the title on the soundtrack album lists it as "Over Me"

The Greatest Car Movie of all time

Best movie ever it has everything, cars, boobs ,music!

Sexy music
Call me old (47) but fuck it!
Something tells me that if i played this song while I was driving, I'd get a lot of speeding tickets.
And hit a lot of bulldozers
No other song would have worked with movie's ending. At the height of it Kowalski had that grin and you'd think he liked the song and now what lay beyond the bulldozer blades.
love this music and the car
it might also give you the urge to drive into a police roadblock at 150 mph
I grow with the movie and the musique...
This one song is better than what Michael Jackson has made in his whole career.
It is somewhat hypnotic.

Verse 1
Feeling kind of lonely
Gonna be in town for only
A few days, at the most
I realise it's early
But I'm feelin’ kinda squir’ly
So I go downstairs for a toast
Verse 2
I'm clinking glasses, drinking fast
And pretty soon I think I'll ask
A lady for a dance or two
I'll try my legs and test ‘em
But my feet ain’t where I left ‘em
And the music make me wanna move
Chorus
I got the rockin'
Rollin'
Reelin'
Feelin'
Something drunk is coming over me
Verse 3
Now somehow or another
I am dancing like a mother and
I'm looking real cool
Thinking every minute
While I'm out there spinning
If I fall I’ll really be the fool
Verse 4
Wisdom crazy vision hazy
And pretty soon collision maybe
Knocked out on the floor
The band is really playing
The guitar is almost sailing
And the music makes me dance some more
Repeat Chorus
Verse 5
Well now I'm really drunk, and
Now my heart has starts to thumping
And my chest is ringing in my ear
To start a conversation
I recall a rare occasion
And order up a round of beers
Verse 6
A woman walking by me talking
I reach out and snag her stocking
Jeez man I'm really laughing in my foam
Finesse I ain't his master
But I guess I musta asked her
Something good because we’re going home
Repeat chorus x5 (at least)

Any way to get the lyrics?
