I got so lucky with my first 2 classic era '78 and '83 Ibanez Guitars. They needed nothing for setup. They were beautiful right out of the box, and both were bought new. My Ibanez GB10NT George Benson archtop and Artist AM205AV semi, both bought used, needed a little bit of setup tweaking, but nothing very dramatic.

That is fantastic. It is possible to get gear that does not need any (or much work) but somewhat the exceptions to the norms (in my experience). That said, I have have had a couple of unicorns along the way myself. Thanks for sharing more of your story. Rock on!

Eddie Van Halen was a tinkerer like Leo Fender, but you also forgot the legendary LES PAUL! He modified and experimented with electronics and guitars too.

Obviously it depends you can be lucky and I don't believe you should pay silly money for a name guitar but kind of midrange price range can avoid total shyte although since cnc budget guitars have improved greatly.

I have more pride , joy, and satisfaction in playing budget guitars.... and making them feel and sound like more expensive guitars ....which are expected to perform better......but don't necessarily do....Put a Squier in Hank Marvin's hand, and he will still sound like Hank Marvin.

@@monmac1165 - Thanks for the comment, sharing a part of your journey, and hanging out on the channel. Although not everyone finds value in the budget mod journey (not that they have to do so on my account). I am totally digging it. I have learned so much along the way from some great folks on the Tubes. The satisfaction it brings me and the fun I have working on guitar projects is good for my soul. Rock on!

I got 4 guitars over 1500, and 4 under 300. Sorry to say the cheap ones just don't get the love the good ones do.

That statement made that professional artists don't use budget guitars is absolute rubbish. They absolutely DO USE budget guitars to tour and record in studio. One Blues artist's No. 1 is a Squier Affinity Telecasters and it is completely STOCK. Whenever a dummy tells you that nonsense, you might to mention to them that the magic is in their hands and not in the badge or model. Harrumph.

True story... it is the musician not the instrument. The old violin in the masters hands so to speak. Thanks for the input to the conversation. Rock on!
