I think that a detail that is often overlooked is the biker gang leader's voice. Negan describes the voice of the guy he beat up over the jukebox as having "one of those voices you can't unhear," most likely meaning that it's annoying and grating, much the same as the biker gang's leader. I don't think it's much of a stretch to think that Negan's killing of him is a way of re-living his moment of standing up for Lucille. Only this time, he finishes the job.
When an actor can be terrifying, charismatic, somewhat likeable and empathetic you know the actor has done their job right and Jeffrey Dean Morgan did that so well with Negan.
@TheGovernor2003 it happened like really fast don't get me wrong I was sad he died but there was no build up to make it intimidating or scary like bro a battle just started so after it happened it was like "damn hershel is dead" and they began fighting so I wasn't thinking about it that much. But with Negan he was hunting Rick and the gang for like a whole episode and when he finally got them we were left with a cliff hanger, and then it was revealed that Glenn died but Negan didn't stop there he constantly antagonizes rick about it like when they were in the RV he kept telling rick to get up and try to kill him with the hand axe on the table, so he goes for it only for negan to just to have a shotgun and tell him to not try it again angering not only Rick but the audience. then he forces rick to go out in a swarm of walkers to get the axe back and he's basically like "yeah rick if you don't listen to me you or one of your will be killed" And he almost makes rick cut of Carl's arm. And that was just his introduction. To sum it up, Negans introduction and Glenn's death had more suspense to it, Hershels death was really cut and dry.
wow that brutal scene of Glenn getting his brains bashed in was pretty cool, i'm so glad the network saved us from hearing Negan say the evil F word tho
I L-O-V-E how he always invaded the Hell out of everyones personal space while simultaneously absolutely refusingto break eye contact and simultaneously refusing to allow them not to break eye contact. So Gangster...!!! 🤭😅😄🤣😆😂🤭
I like that you said "there are consequences as negan will find out soon enough" Exactly how i thought when i first watched s7 and 8, rick pretty much summed it up in one line "sooner or later you were gonna meet SOMEone like me"
You’re telling me Jeffrey Morgan is that good of an actor? Wow. I never realized how detailed acting is. This is wild watching the fine details. These fine details are what separates the A list from all else.
Negan always seemed like a guy with either nothing to lose or he knows he won't be losing anything. At least in the early seasons that had him in it, when he ruled Sanctuary
Negan is one of the best characters by far and now that we got to see why he's doing the things he's doing is even better. U did a very good job at showing what he was feeling. Also will u do Shane's character analysis??
Great analysis! This kind of deep look at a character profile is really helpful for writers as it gives insight on human psyche and how to create some amazing characters like Negan.
I do think alot of the "fake" smiles and persona Negan puts on is really just a part of who he is deep down. Even though he is putting on a performance I think that's just how he always was and is if you get what I mean. Even him being a coward before and taking the easy way out was a persona in itself. The new Dead City show even kind of highlights this with how Negans character is all about theatrics and putting on show putting fear into others for the safety of his own. But in the end is enjoying it all
prime example is the "knock knock" window scene, and i like how you can still tell he wants to change bc he looks behind himself at maggie and IMMEDIATELY his face floods with shame
Imo he carried the whole show since the first episode he was introduced in. He's exactly what a great character is supposed to be - charismatic and not neccessarilly evil. Not a villain, but not exactly a protagonist either.. a living evidence that nobody is just black or white and that every human can be both cruel and good, depending on situation we are in.
22:42 you really can't compare beggining Negan to season 6-7 Rick, while Negan had been through a lot and lost his wife, Rick had lost a lot more, his wife, multiple times he's thought that his children were going to die or are already dead, lost his sanity, had to kill his own best friend after finding out that his wife was pregnant with his child, Rick being a sociopath is far more understandable, like a wild animal fighting for survival
You only know that because you followed Rick and not Negan, there's years between losing Lucille and meeting Rick. We don't know what other struggles and losses he went through in that time.
Wait what do you mean? Like replicate Negan's body language to the biker gang leader and Rick? Because if so yes then I hella relate. I strongly believe that the only character in The Walking Dead Universe that I closely relate to is Negan then secondly is Rick. Yeah also if you pay close attention Negan and Rick are very similar in probably many ways or little to no ways.
For some reason people want to think that the Governor could take on Negan. Governor was blinded....no pun intended to the eye patch.....by his own anger. Negan wasn't driven by anger, he was driven by loss. Two totally different emotions. Governor didn't accept his loss, that's why he kept his daughter. Negan accepted the loss of his wife and accepted that loss was a part of life, esp of the new world. Now I know there will be comments talking about how Negan didn't let go because he named the bat after his wife and I agree....he held on in some small way. But I think it was more of an outlet of letting go instead of just holding on.
i havent finished the walking dead yet, i dropped it in the middle of season 9. this video explained his evolution very well to me despite that, nice job!
Hi Enigma! This video just popped onto my home page, so decided to give it a shot. Super glad I did, your breakdown was spot on! When can we (I liked & subscribed) expect part 2 (& possibly part 3) of your Negan breakdown? I love that you’re starting from the beginning of TWD, after you break *that* down… I would LOVE to see it with Dead City! Cheers 🍻
"people see red, that is actually true" the facial expression of Negan's. Knew shit's about to go down. True, though. Anger, uncontained is a piece of shit and violent!
Interested to see the next phase of evolution for Negan, his dominance over Alexandria, then that dominance being challenged in the All Out War, finishing with his defeat and imprisonment by Rick.
i think he's actually insecure. he thought he was equipped for the apocalypse, he was prepared for it.. then found out otherwise. the horror of it made carvings into his soul and he was never at peace again.
I still haven't watched the full video of this but when I heard the beginning of the video play Negan's Theme like that's where 'FEAR' starts to settle in because man Negan he was such like probably Season 5 Rick but in Negan's way like more stable and smart how he uses he's statics but overall Negan is such a favorite character of mines used to hate him till death but now love him (no homo) lmao 😂

Does nonverbal communication and tells work with actors who are acting? Are these guys just so good at acting that they can portray the nonverbal? Or are we overanalyzing fake physical and emotional cues with not only the belief that these are real, but with growing up seeing this obvious cues everywhere? I had a theory that perhaps we aren’t understanding our psychological at all, but shaping it rather. To see a head cut off during the French Revolution was likely normal. But if a normal American saw that, they’d need therapy. But why?
Having read the comic books, I knew if they spend a full season on Negan that it would do enormous damage to ratings. Normally that might be too bad writing but in the negin storyline case it's not. The writing is good. But it's so repellent that many people just lose interest in continuing to read the horrific poison in their hands.

When an actor can be terrifying, charismatic, somewhat likeable and empathetic you know the actor has done their job right and Jeffrey Dean Morgan did that so well with Negan.
Of course, he was born for that role
Negan is a beyond fantastic walking dead character.
Negan is the only villian that has ever made me cry. If that's not a villain, idk what is. He is built beyond different.

I'd swear kirkman saw me in a bar in the 90's and copied my look for Negan. I dress the same, look similar and instead of Negan, my name is Nathan. 🧐🤔
@@aliengranpabro, what guy wasn’t wearing a leather jacket with jeans and boots and all that in the 90s and earlier
Negan really is the best character once you can distance from the perspective of ricks crew. By far my favorite. Jeffrey absolutely nailed it.
It's ironic negan is playing gears of war 2 where a man loses his wife then goes through the same thing not long after.

That it does. I enjoy writing and Negan's profile of character is on the list. The character can be used in anything unpredictable in a story.
