Gadsden native here, Love this lineup of Gold City! But I’m very glad they canned the Nebuchadnezzar song 😂🤣 That was hard to listen to

Ok. Before anyone has a fit accusing me of living in the past, please hear me out...today's gospel music is to be appreciated and enjoyed. There are many talented groups and individuals carrying the gospel through song to needy people. But...this clip represents, unfortunately, a by-gone era that will likely never be duplicated. I wish, as someone else commented, that the "raw" sound would return. Live bands, no stacked vocals. But the best sound!

@Todd Hawk It's a year later but I absolutely agree. The other group that had the "raw" sound was The McKameys particularly with Carol Woodward on lead.

      If only you knew lol.
There is definitely noise gate and compression in this recording. You can hear it most in the tenor.

This version of Gold City was the best one of the group. The sound that they had was unmatched. The only other group this good was The Cathedrals. The next version of Gold City that came close to this one was Tim Riley, Mark Trammell, Jonathan Wilburn and Jay Parrack.

This Era, and the one that included Tim Riley at Bass, Mark Trammell at Baritone, Steve Lacey at Leaf, and Jay Parrack at Tenor, were my two favorite Eras. After that, there were too many lineup changes to keep up with. Didn't really care much for Steve Ladd at Tenor. He wasn't the worst Tenor, but at times, he seemed to have a bit of a pitch problem, when it came to coming down from a really high note, and holding the lower note. If you want to know what I mean, listen to a song called "Well, you'd really oughta been there. Listen closely to the times that they try ending the song, and maybe you'll see what I mean. When I hear Brian Free singing Tenor, I have to ask one and all:Is it any wonder that he's the most awarded Tenor singer in all of Southern Gospel Music History? God really blessed him with a very pronounced, and a very powerful, Tenor voice!
