- After discussion within the Nancy Drew Community about which game is best, a project was started to uncover the truth. Here are the results!
Over 100 ND Community members ranked all 33 games on the following categories:
Atmosphere
Music
Puzzles
Mini-Games
Characters
Culprits
Plot/Story
End Game
Replayability
Overall Score
Nostalgia
**Mini-Games and Nostalgia scores were not included in the results of this video- a separate video will be made focusing on those two categories, as well as specific videos to show the ranking of each specific category that were covered in this video.
Those categories were ranked with the following system:
Superior- The best of the best games, extremely regarded
A-Tier- Excellent games, highly regarded
B-Tier- Great games, well regarded
C-Tier- Average games, fairly well regarded
D-Tier- Okay games, somewhat regarded
F-Tier- The weakest games
Those rankings were then converted to scores and were turned into overall percentages. Those percentages were what was used to determine the ranking of all 33 games.
The percentages were used to determine the following scores:
100-96% = Superior
95-90% = A-Tier
89-80% = B-Tier
79-70% = C-Tier
69-60% = D-Tier
59% and below = F-Tier
With over 100 responses, what resulted was a well rounded ranking list of all 33 Nancy Drew Games.

Great Job on this video. I haven't played all now 34 games. The ones I have played Waverly Final Scene and Royal Tower are my 3 favorites.
I'm just personally offended that MHM did so poorly. I know it's not a perfect game, but it's a great one. And look how well Waverly did! This is what I get for trying to be fair to it and not give it an F in every category. But I'm glad that most of my personal favorites did well!
MHM was the first game I ever played. I was obsessed. I was a 10 year old girl. I just replayed it at 33 and it's STILL amazing. Oldie but goodie for sure.
Ransom of seven ships was so good idk what you are talking about but Secrets of Shadow Ranch is so overlooked for top games and it had an incredible storyline
I love Shadow Ranch, so I was very happy to see that the community gave it the love it deserves! Ransom isn't quite my cup of tea for a number of reasons, but I do enjoy the music in it
Great video. I cannot believe 8 of my personal top 10 made it so high. Message and ghost dogs were the only two that scored low. Kinda sucks since MHM was my very first ND game.

I generally agree with this list. My top 3 are Waverly, Train, and Sea. My only main difference is Shadow Ranch is in the middle for me, though I understand it is a fan favorite. Thank you for sharing your ranking!

I can definitely get behind this top 10 and most of those are in mine as well, but I include Phantom of Venice and Danger by Design which is sad to see so low. Love all the parts of it and find it underrated. Also glad Scarlet Hand made it as far as it did.🕵🏼♀️

My number one favorite Nancy Drew game is Alibi in Ashes
Great video! It’s funny because I enjoy Secrets Can Kill and Kapu Cave, but objectively they are definitely not the best lol
Thanks! I agree, I enjoy Secrets Can Kill (it's the first game I ever played) but it is one of the weaker games
Do you teach using nancy drew games? I've used them in my high school ELA classes for two years and it is so fun!
I do! I use them as rewards for accomplishing class goals together- kids reach their goal and they get to dress up as detectives and solve a mystery together for an afternoon- so much fun!
I feel so validated seeing MHM so low. I’ve always been under the impression that it was a fan favorite but I’ve NEVER understood the hype! Maybe I misjudged it’s popularity.
I feel like MHM is well liked, but we can all admit that it isn't technically the best lol
I agree! I replayed it recently after not touching it since i was a kid and it didn’t hold up at all haha. The only part I remembered was the cool saloon and its still the main good part to me
@@WishMish15 It was the last game in the series that I hadn't played, and I finally played it a couple years ago. It was fine, but definitely didn't live up to the hype
I agree with you, it doesn’t have the same appeal for me all these years later on replays. Actually feel the same about Ghost Dogs also, but that one seems to be loved hence it’s high rating.
Ghost Dogs is another game that I played for the first time a few years ago- I don't have the nostalgia goggles for that one either. It's a fun game, but wouldn't put it in my top 15
