I'm a fairly new subscriber to your channel and I love everyone of your videos (I'm still watching my way through them all, lol). You are a very beautiful lady, with a very relaxing voice and the way you explain things is brilliant. P.S. I smiled when I heard your dog's bell, I would love to see your dog in a future video of yours.

This is great advice! When I first heard you say this, I started saving my cardboard boxes, mailers and cereal boxes. Since I lived out in the country at the time, it really helped because I didn't have to wait to go into town or order chip board and wait for it. It's great for teaching our kids and grand kids how to recycle and be creative, as well. Thank you!

You always say to double up on cereal boxes and up until this video it never occurred to me to tape the pieces together!
I also didn’t think about some boxes having a built-in book spine. That’s so clever!

I just have to laugh! I had my students making books out of boxes since the 70s. I love to see you continue. We ended up using boxes of all sizes, my favorites were pasta boxes with cellophane windows and toothpaste boxes.

Hey Sherry, I have been using all the material that you listed on my chipboard projects. But, there is chipboard between the plastic on binders. This may not be as hard to get as you think. As it turns out, companies throw away binders all the time. I have severals friends that are still working(I'm retired) and have gotten an abundance of binders from them that were being thrown in the trash(not recycled). Something to think about, just love all your creativity. Thanks for always sharing.

I was reading the comments before I posted about this so thanks! Also I have a Dollar Tree 3-ring binder that I’m using as a binder until it rips. After that there will be two 9-3/4” x 11” pieces of nice chipboard to use-except for one corner that my cat chewed, LOL!

I was given a HUGE box of used manila folders by my supervisor at work. She didn't want to reuse them, even though they were in pretty good condition. I glue two or three (or however many I want to for the desired thickness I need) together and viola, I have sturdy board to use for making my junk journals. I do also use a lot of food packaging because they are often already a book cover form, as you point out. I love the ones with little acetate windows that you can use to make a "peek-a-boo" into the journal. BTW, your book is adorable! Great idea to corral your embellishments like that, by theme so they're beautiful AND easy to find. Brilliant as always! Thank you!

I’m so happy to read all this. About 5 years ago another UA-cam person suggested this and got the meanest comments about food boxes attracting bugs and rodents and “OMG” germs!!
I always knew enough to never use any stained or greasy boxes and I am happy to say in 5 years I have not had any one of the above issues and I live in the country.
So glad to revisit these options!

Great tutorial! Of course, cereal boxes but sometimes I get a cardboard type of mailer envelope shipped to me. I think double stacking these would create 'chipboard'. Edited to add: also, manila file folders from work, double stacked. Of course, used ones, not new ones.

I know I won't have buy any. Pizza boxes, Cereal boxes, any other kind of boxes, backs of paper pads and old spiral notebooks left over from daughters school days, etc. I used the front covers for tags, bookmarks, and ATCs that I cover with scraps from printed 12x12, 8x6, and 6x6 paper pads. I save envelopes from bills, too. Lots of pretty prints in those.

  • @tammydressler4876
    @tammydressler4876 2 роки тому +3

I work in a print shop, and from about July through October is a great time to get scrap/leftover sheets of chipboard from calendar orders. Also, though not all print shops are willing to do so, some will give away (or sell inexpensively) overstock on not-often-used papers. To be honest, most overage is recycled fairly soon after an order is complete, but if you catch them at the right time, it can be a gold mine for paper crafters. I'm fairly new to paper crafting, but I've started putting the word out in our bindery department that I am interested in extra sheets of chipboard and card stock.

Very informative and useful Sherry! I have several types and thicknesses of chipboard, but not a lot of it so this is good info to have. The only thing I would worry about is making any sort of keepsake this is supposed to last over a long time because these materials are not necessarily acid-free or archival; otherwise, they are great alternatives to chipboard. There is a glue on the market that can be bought at CraftStash or Crafter's Companion called Collall All Purpose Glue that is a clear, solvent-based acid-free glue that dries quickly and like cement - really reinforces and makes sturdier everything from paper to chipboard. Collall also makes a transparent flexible PVAc glue for threadless book and board binding work that is good for gluing cardboards together for durability. Thanks for sharing a great tutorial! 👍💖

GREAT idea, Sherry! Not only is it economical for projects, but it's a wonderful way to recycle paper. I have LOADS of brand new craft paper. But when I'm tossing out paper goods, I always take that "2nd look" and ask myself, "Can I salvage any part of this?" 😆
It's amazing what we can do with just a little imagination, right?

Good tips. Also if you have watercolor pads almost all those have a real chipboard backing. I save that. The larger pads have quite thick chipboard too! Some clothing and sheet sets that are in plastic packages has chipboard in it. By the way, What is the name of the combination scoring and trimmer board? I have been wanting a scoring board but I like the idea of the two in one model like you have and would like to get one of those! Right now all I have is a small trimmer and the measurements on it are really off so I have to eyeball everything I cut and don't use the measurements on it at all.

Sherry thanks! I have been using cake mix boxes, cereal boxes, back of tablets, shoe boxes, along with light weight chip board to get the thickness I need. I have also used presentation board from Staples but it can be a little difficult to cut with a trimmer. I am also commenting on the home decor to hold many items of choice you designed! It was very elegant and you shared the idea right at the time I just purchased my tempered glass dinning table to go with my strong chairs I kept from the other set! You were quite visualnary with this idea! May you be blessed always!

The back of the stick books from Happy Planner works as well. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for sharing this. I’m so glad that you showed me how I can use my recycled paper containers and used them to make chipboard because sometimes I just don’t have the funds to buy chipboard but I’ve got plenty of items to use in place of chipboard. Thank you again. Please stay safe.

hhh i have never had chipboard, I also lightly sand or rough up the outside of the packaging to give a good contact to paper

I've been keeping "all" my cardboard that I think I can use in a project. The end pieces I use as a backer in making tags! It has saved me a few $$. Sometimes I just need the good stuff :) :) Be well & TYFS

My craft stash has LOTS of cereal boxes. They’re easy to get and have a variety of sizes. 👍

These are awesome. I like using recycled pressboard folders (the kind they have in doctor’s offices). They also have the built in tyvek reinforced spines that make great structural components for spines.

I enjoy watching your videos even though I'm not a crafter, I'm a crocheter. I was interested in your tutorial about the gift bags. I will continue watching even though I don't have any of the tools.
