iPhone 5/5c/5s: How to Fix "No Service" or "Searching" Issue

- Here are several steps you can try before going to the Apple store should you have issues such as no service or constantly searching for network (mobile carrier) on your iPhone 5, 5c, or 5s
Please comment with what method worked for you.
If this does not work for you may want input your APN settings manually.

I had no data, and my internet was only connected for literally the blink of an eye. I had this problem for months. The reset network settings, power off and remove SIM card for 3 seconds worked for me. Thanks, TRM, you saved me.
To clarify, I didn't pay for data, not there was a data problem.
sometimes, my phone will just randomly restart. when it does, it goes from having service, to saying "searching" or "no service".
This had to be caused by the latest update.. I delayed updating my phone for a few weeks with absolutely no issues, finally got around to just doing it, now my phone is constantly fluxing between service and No Service.

Guess what. some of that stuff must have worked for my 4s. I´m not kidding it always showed "searching". I thought i have to throw it away but now it works again. thanks mate
Guys, I just did a software update on the Iphone 5s and it fixed the issue. Not sure when that update was released but my phone is working again!
IF YOU HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND NOTHING IN THIS VIDEO WORKED, READ THIS:
I could not get anything to work in this video short of updating to iOS 10. I didn't want to do that. So I turned on Pandora while on wifi (and had it set to keep the screen on), turned my brightness up all the way, turned on the flashlight, and turned the volume all the way up. I let my battery die flat dead, and when I plugged it in and let it restart, it was still searching for a minute then miraculously started working again. I have no idea if it worked or if my phone simply stopped having a tantrum, but if it worked for me, it's worth a try. Best of luck everyone!!!
Leaving brightness to max and LED flash on for hours is dangerous. Don't do what this person is saying.
I have to agree with a previous comment, you sound a *lot* like Mark Ruffalo...which is totally appropriate because you are a frickin super hero. 4 days of No Service after a "Carrier Update" from Verizon and this finally got me up and running again. Fixing the time worked for me, I turned it off right after manually setting the time, date and year. Kudos from the Philippines! :)

Thank you so much. I have had my 1phone5s for 2-3 year now, work great but this issue came up 3 days ago outa the blue. I called tracfone they had me turn ifone on -off, remove sim-replace. Then they informed me to go to call apple for apple store appointment. The apple operator was very nice and ran me thru some step over phone and then set up appointment with apple store near me. the next day at apple store an over tattooed employee sat me down on a barrel at told him the issue. The minute i told him it was a 5s his attitude was that the phone was "Obsolete" and he said that it was prob a hardware prob(He never touched the phone). Well duh, i dont have $1100 to spend on a new phone every year just because they add more camera lenses on a phone. Then the apple employee tried to sell me a 900$+ phone like im some rube.
i was getting ready to call tracfone to buy a iphone6 or 6+ when i read something about antenna issues with the 6 and I looked up Utube and found this video on fixing my exact problem. And after following thru to ste 3 or 4 on turning "do not disturb" on/off it found my network!
Hello i just got a iphone se from my cousin who lives in US and when i try for europian sim like vodafon it just says searching, the old sim was verizon,should i format it will it lock my phone ?
Guys try to change your sim card its worked for me. Finally
My wife's iPhone 5s had a similar issue. Where it could not find our carrier with SIM card. So she took it back to them and they replaced the SIM card. Still did not find carrier. Well the next day her iPhone battery died from her just not charging it. Once we plugged it back in and it went though all the loading stuff. It was then able to find our carrier with in a few minutes. Hope this trick helps someone else out with this issue.

Tried all these but problem persists. Always 'Searching' for the network - I've discovered many thousands of people with an iphone 5 have exactly the same issue. Mine though unlocked and previously working with EE even displays the wrong carrier (vodafone) to that of the SIM in the Phone section in settings. My conclusion is that Apple have botched the software coding in the last update but why no fix. I bought a cheap £12.95 retro Nokia non-smart phone in which the same sim works perfectly in order to have a working phone

What if my phone is disabled I don’t remember the password it says searching. Also doesn’t have a Sim card and I just want to factory reset it or at least be able to turn this thing off and cant do that either

hey Dude ! How am I suppose to click on the PHONE then into SIM PIN ... if the first one is DISABLE (PHONE) because my phone has NO SERVICE.? yours in other hand has a Service that is why you can click on PHONE icon.

I have an iPhone 5S with this 'searching' and 'no sim' problem even if my card in inserted. I tried to factory reset the phone, well guess what, now I can't set up the phone because it doesn't read the sim card. What should I do?
What I did was - put another SIM card in my phone and turnt it off, turnt back on and switched the date/time from automatic….then put my original sim back in and it should work 😁
I have an iphone 5s and today i had shut it down around 1:10 in the afternoon. When i turned it back on it started serching. You could also be the kind of person who likes to throttle their data on the G network, and may be using 2G. 2G is getting phased out and may have been removed from your area, you need to go up to 3G now.
I have always been on 2G, and spontaneously, yesterday I had no reception all day.. never had a signal. I toggled 3G and 4G and all my bars came back.

Had the exact same problem. Tried resetting the network settings once - didn't help - but tried again - and THEN it worked ?!. Wonder why. Apple humac store told me it's a hardware problem and nothing can be done. NOT true !. It's working again. This is on a Iphone 5S. all working again now ...

Hi I solved this no service issue by: when I had it in aeroplane mode I went into the wifi settings and turned in my wifi.

Thanks a bunch for ur troubleshooting tutorial which just helped me get my phone up and running again after having the no service error since arriving bk to the states last night. Even the carrier customer service was unable to assist me. However I hate the fact that i was not able to dislodge my sim card from my iphone which i tried unsuccessfully all day. Eventually one of ur 8 steps/options worked .Thank u soooo much that i ended up not having to go in to the store as rec by my carrier!!

When I got to my apple page I deleted and reported stolen the new iphone 5s that I just bought. So I blocked the wrong iphone. I called apple and they say that if my iphone works in find my phone, then it's ok. But no, it doesn't work. I turn on my 4s and that one works fine. Could it be the emie number? or how to I input the vpn ?

But nothing works. Not even T-Mobile store could help me out... The phone recognizes my SIM from time to time and for a minute it even showed T-Mobile with working 4G. Now it's just stuck "searching" and it refuses to work. Can't force an update either, I'm so fcking confused and have no idea what to do...
