As we celebrate your life and your legacy and our 61st independence in a few days 1 of your greatest song ever..may your beautiful soul sleep in eternal peace 🤍🤍🤍
A truly strong woman to reach this point after what she went through on her debut in 1986 in Skinner Park. She has truly persevered. A true, ture TRINI. We love you Denyse.
patrick A I agree totally. She was treated so badly by the public, just because of skin colour/race. It's really sad. She must really be passionate about the art form to have persevered like she did. I really admire her.
There is nothing white about Denise Plumber. The drums of Africa are echoed in her Voice. I say a true Caribbean woman a descendant of African parent . A true Calypsonian.
As a little girl I grew up hearing this song, on another Caribbean island. Always loved this song. Gives me chills. Sad to learn she had it rough in the beginning because of her skin colour. She did not make herself. People just ignorant. Beautiful rendition. This is Kaiso.
I am a born Trini, living here in Kansas U.S.A. Here will never be my home like Trinidad. Sweet Sweet Trinidad., my home. Love this song by Denise Plummer. It really depicts a true trini!!!!!!!!!!
I was born in USA living in Trini. Wherever you are, when your away from your childhood place you resort to the best of memories past 😊But for many truth is there were other kinds of memories with it too encouraging us to go elsewhere 😂 What I learned to do is Never Ever Compare. Enjoy where you are for the greatness of what is in front of you. This is usually found by contributing. Contributing your friendship to others and understanding with empathy the less than ideal you may get back. All to help yourself and others find happiness within. With that attitude I've enjoyed each place I've been from that moment on. I hope this helps. Oh and please say hi to Dorothy, the scarecrow, the Lion and the Wizard of Oz 😅
Our ANTHEM, RIP Denyse, your music will survive till eternity and many who never got a chance to see you or meet you will still enjoy and appreciate.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The hairs are raising on the back of my neck, I'm feeling very nostalgic, I lived in Trinidad for 7 years, living in England but love love to go back and see my family one day. The words in this song means so much.
The fist time I heard this song I was in a maxi taxi on my way to school and I still remember this rendition bringing tears to my eyes as a teenager. That same weekend, I was having a very heated conversation with my uncle because we Trinis do not know about doing things in half measure, with the discussion being about who was going to win Calypso Monarch. Of course the first name out of my mouth was Denyse Plummer's Nah Leaving and this was before I heard any of the other calypsos that year. I distinctly remember my uncle (now deceased) arguing with me that it was never going to happen but I guess he did not listen to the lyrics to understand how powerful this song was. Mind you this was the first and only time I ever took any real interest in the Calypso Monarch winner because I always found some of the other artists compositions to be racially divisive. If only we could all listen to the lyrics and understand the true meaning of being a Trinbagonian, diversity of culture, diversity people, diversity of thought, all coming together to make the world a better place for everyone.

We just lost another wonderful icon. This song struck a chord with me right away back when she first sang it. She outlined the darkness of Trinidad and Tobago and pushed forth the light of Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹. Beautifully done. Alas, the ignored climbing death rate trail claimed her. May she contribute to the awakening and inspiring the living of actually doing something to stop opposing but doing something to cease the ever powerful Robber of Life spirit deeply embedded in many women and men. Thank you for your contributions Denyse Plummer making my stay of greater value..
Very true...her mom is black Venezuelan and her dad is white (I think Scottish or Irish). I have a friend that I went to high school with, she's Trini born (I think she's from Blemont if I do recall). She's black with Scottish decent from her grandfather. Also, I dated a guy who's white but was born and raised in Trinidad (I don't considered him white though). Trini people comes I'm different nationalities and skin tones. So at the end of the day, they're Trini. #Period!!!
Om Sadgati. Once a calypsonian, always a calypsonian. May her legacy live on for as long as Trinidad and Tobago rise above the surface of the ocean. ❤🇹🇹
This song never fails to produce chills. This was truly inspired. Who want to flee could flee, poor service, bad road, greedy politicians, whatever! Who go fix it if we flee?
Exactly!! And that is why the vacum exists in all the Caribbean islands all kind of crooks and frauds have jumed in and settled in thank you very much!!!!
This is an excellent song. I can feel her patriotism and I'm not even Trini. Her second song that year, Heroes, was great as well. Much-deserved crown.
An instant classic. Also, it is not easy to command that big stage on Sunday night. Check the tribute in the middle of Renegades’ championship performance of Hookin’ Meh (2019)
