Viridian comes on when you clear the holster, used on my wifes carry gun.

I have only one. It made sense for a shotgun with a pistol grip.

Remember just like tracers in Vietnam when I was there 66-68, lasers work both ways. Meaning, you use a laser to acquire a target, someone else can see where it is coming from and thus knows where to put 'steel on target (laser source).

I'm a bit dumbfounded by the comments on lasers. I can only comment on my own experience with Crimson Trace laser grips and laserguards on several guns. They work great for me indoors even in a well lit room. I can get on target quickly doing dry fire practice , often before bringing the gun up to eye level. At the range they work fine out to about 15 yards provided it's a cloudy day. At seven yards I shoot more quickly and more accurately with the laser and often on target before the gun reaches eye level. If you happen to move the gun as you pull the trigger it is pretty obvious with the laser. Only yesterday some friends were checking out one of my guns at the 15 Yd. range and noted the laser was easily visible on a cloudy day. Yes,I have iron sights to supplement the laser as needed.

You should not turn on the laser if you are not ready to place your shot. You don’t search and scan with laser on.

This might not be the best analogy, but I equate iron Vs. laser sights with manual Vs. automatic transmissions. Learn the basics, learn on a manual. Then you can drive almost anything on the planet. Add the automatic transmission (red dot) as just another tool in your tool box. But learn the basics, first. In this interview, Roy said (quoting a nay-sayer) "What if your laser doesn't come on?" "Then", he said, "there's about a 1/8th of a second transition where you go back to your iron sights." Aye, laddie. But only if you know how to use iron sights. Only if you've done it the way I described, and learned those irons as your basics, and just added a laser as an option. Never lose sight of that distinction.

Having used iron sights for over 50 years prior to the availability of laser sights I didn't realize there are people who have no experience with iron sights. I suppose there are people who only have experience with scopes on rifles too.

Knowing how to drive a manual (I learned on one) doesn't help if you lose your left leg. Similarly eyesight and ability to focus can be an issue regardless of your knowledge level.

In addition, when I assisted in teaching CHL in TX (w/range time). We tapped up lasers be it palm activated or button. This teaches acquiring target w/o assistance.

i have a family member, who has the idea in their head, that if you have a laser you can't miss. how should i deal with that kind of ignorance?

Well on the plus side, a laser is a great tool to help you see exactly how and why you miss. Great diagnostic tool!
