  • Fanny Crosby's hymn "To God Be the Glory" is a timeless piece of Christian music, celebrated for its uplifting message of praise and gratitude towards God. Written in 1875, the hymn exalts the greatness of God’s love and the salvation offered through Jesus Christ. Crosby, a prolific hymn writer who composed over 8,000 hymns despite being blind, imbued this piece with her deep faith and theological insight.
Greg Howlett, a contemporary pianist and arranger, has brought a fresh interpretation to "To God Be the Glory" through his skilled arrangements. Known for his intricate and emotive piano renditions, Howlett’s version retains the hymn's powerful message while adding a layer of musical sophistication. His arrangement often features rich harmonies, dynamic contrasts, and expressive phrasing, which enhances the hymn’s emotional impact and provides a new way for listeners to engage with this classic piece. Howlett’s contribution ensures that "To God Be the Glory" continues to resonate with modern audiences, maintaining its relevance and inspiring worshipers around the world.
Performed at the Silvertown Auditorium in Athlone, Cape Town, on the 3rd of December 2022, on the occasion of the visit of Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider.
