I was always told when serving my time that they are called lamps and not bulbs as bulbs grow in a garden and lamps go in lights.

I am surprised you and Nick haven't been given a battery warm jacket. That looks like an old Appleby fitting I know the looks of the fittings is more important these days but they were a sturdy construction shame the gasket was going. The replacement doesn't look too bad for that type as some are very cheap and poorly made.
