Totally enjoyed this woman’s story. Was blown away by her ‘spunk’ even as a teenager. She chose life for her daughter. She should be an inspiration to young people to never give up on your dreams.

Thank you so much for sharing this, Justin. At 67 and one year widowed, I am re-motivating myself to finish restoring a tornado-struck cottage, and turning my six acres over to permaculture. This was extremely inspiring and hopeful.
PS I raise bantam ducks and assorted geese. I've been thinking I need a donkey to watch over them.

Donkeys and mules will look after their own herd/ flock, they are a truly undiscovered treasure on a grass fed farm. They will attack dogs and coyotes, and happily stomp snakes and rats.

Several times while watching I had tears roll down my cheek. She is such an inspiration and so loving I couldn't help getting sentimental knowing one day she will be too old to continue to do what she loves in her farm and for her animals. She is the epitome of a high value woman with brilliance, community minded and educator, healer, and a loving spirit. I was happy to know she was able to get to know her daughter, grandchildren, etc and her life has come full circle. She is an inspiration to not just women but also to men. She defies the odds and is a trail blazer. I pray God ensures her heart, through medicine or miracle, she lives at least to 120!!!

I can so relate! Lived in Vegas and had to get out of there! Spent 2n years in Ohio meeting the land, all the work and pleasure. We had dairy goats. We also had a hillbilly neighbor that took me under his wing. He was getting old and nobody listened to him - no time. I ate it up! He taught me to ID trees w/o leaves (bark) and what my hay field needed for nutrition, share cropping. I loved it. Then on to MA and there i met the Lord that brought it a home - emense peace! Dairy goats, a whole herd, calf, our meat, huge organic garden, health food stores, nutrition, chickens, ducks, sheep (never again!) rabbits, muscovy ducks and last but not least geese. I've never looked back. Noe I live in TX, retired, but if bad weather hits, we're ok, we know how. Wood, wood, wood! It heats you 4 ways, cut it down, split it, stack it and burn it. We're never w/o food, I still can. I could go on and on. I adore that life style! Thanx for such a great look at your life.

I think what I Iove most about Tess is that all through her life she followed her dreams and never gave up on any of them. Even with the trauma of giving up a baby, she was able to bring closure to the situation for everyone. May God continue to bless you and when it's time to move on to eternity I'm sure He has a beautiful farm land in heaven waiting for you!

My dream is to convert the barn into a house, grow all my own vegetables, keep chickens and a few goats, but maybe I'll try some sheep. My motto is You're never to old to try something new. There is a knack and skill to many professions. He does not feel he has enough to contribute to her passion so we need to trust his instinct and evaluation of his abilities. Plants are not the same as animals. That was his pride and joy and what he instinctively understood. BTW I have had two strokes, surgery to repair my broken neck with a cadaver bone, three surgeries involving noninvasive cancer but wow three of them? I also have had a heart murmur since I was roughly eight. Still managed to be active duty military for a few years that is where I got the neck break. That part of me from the tumors is a mess and nonfunctional. Although this kind lady shared her medical history he is not obliged to do so or make excuses or defend himself for his reasons. For any of his decisions in life. May God richly bless this lady and her entire family, the people who come to her for knowledge and stock animals, those who have benefited from her wisdom and sharing. And who come to watch Justin R.

He supports her in every other endeavor and she has found a way to make it work by engaging in community even more. Farm life is just not every one's "gig" ~ they have a strong partnership otherwise and I can't talk him down. They both have very demanding professional experience and skill sets and best they each apply themselves in ways most effective. I see that in Tess's challenge to get things done, her capacity to see opportunity in helping others is a win, win on so many levels. I know the right people at the right time come along.

She is incredible. But keep in mind that many people do not exist on social media. Social media is a tool, but it is not real life. She was using a flip phone in this video. She is not an empty-headed influencer and she is not living a "lifestyle". She did not travel around the world to make other people envious, but to experience connection with other cultures and countries. I am afraid this kind of life is becoming incomprehensible to far too many in the younger generation.I sincerely hope you experience many people like her in real life.

I have had to have one eye removed because of uncontrollable glaucoma, and I have it in the other eye. I rescued an old thoroughbred race horse mare, from a slaughter auction, and she had a blind spot in her “off side” eye. My left eye is gone, so I’d walk her with our blind sides next to each other...she was so fancy and beautiful...a lot you can learn and appreciation the old gentle ones; both animal and human. I wish I could meet this wonderful lady and listen more to her experiences and love for her land.

I absolutely love that lady and what she has overcome to get where she is. I think I'm about 8 years her senior, but I could definitely identify with the male dominant rejection. I, too, was turned down for many an opportunity because I was female and I might get pregnant and all that training/opportunity would be lost if I were hired. And besides, if I got the job then a man with a family wouldn't be able feed his family. The only real option "back in the day" was to get married, be a housewife, and barefoot and pregnant. Thank you very much, Phyllis Schafly, and all of her ilk.

Now at almost 70, looks like a dream that will never come true. I got pregnant at 18 and gave my son up. Never regretted it. Knew I was never mother material. This lady is amazing!!!

Very inspiring, oh how the world needs more gentle souls like her. I hope she lives many more years of healthy life, finds someone to look after her farm and amazing animals in the end. I am dreaming of living in a farm and taking care of animals like these, just like when I was a boy growing up and having that as a hobby, so now after 40 years, I dream that one day I can also set up my own farm and enjoy the rest of days, be out of this corporate world I live in.
Take care Tess, thanks Justin for sharing this.

What a wonderful farm and lady! I too started my goat farm this year at age 60, after my husband passed away from cancer in Nov. 2020. I had been saving money when and where I could, working a pt job as a PCA. Taking care of my husband when I wasn’t working for almost 2 years. We knew he would not make it more than 5 years, as he had 2 different types of cancer. We did not know it had spread to his brain until the day before he passed. So I came home not knowing what I was going to do, but as I grieved, prayed, spent my time with my dogs, prayed some more, the idea came to get goats, cuz I knew I could handle that on my own. Well, one thing led to another and my son and his wife and my grandson moved back home this spring. They help when and where needed, as I am also on disability from a bad accident in 2016, so some things are hard on me. We turned it into a fun family time at milking time, feeding times, hoof trimming day, bath day, etc. I now have 4 does,(all pg right now), 1 buck and one young whether. I’m so excited for March to come, as I will be having goat births thru out that month. We love the goat milk, have made yogurt, cheese, eggnog and soon will start our soaps and lotions. This video helped me feel very good about my decision, as my other 2 sons and my siblings think I’m nuts for starting a goat farm at an older age. To me it’s fun, enjoyable and helps me find my peace when I’m out in the barn, milk parlor or wherever my goats are. I love it! Thank you for sharing her story!
