Can today's singers render this as beautifully? PBS and PS sound like real life romantics! I don't understand a word except Malliga Hoovu but I am in love with this song!
I am reminded of my school days in Bangalore. A song that I enjoyed as a school kid and even today enjoy it after retiring from active corporate work!! The shelf life of these old songs are eternal. These are timeless master pieces. PBS and P Susheela have sung it so soulfully. Mahendra Kapoor, the famous Hindi playback singer used to say that the reason these old songs remain fresh even after so many years is because of the effort and time that went into creating them. Lyricists had a free hand to write, directors had time to come up with the best tunes and singers had time to practice. Today, crores of rupees are spent on movies and the producers want to recover their investment and so have no time. Not much effort or thought goes into songs; tunes are copied very often, lyrics don't have life and singers do assembly line singing jumping from studio to studio... what's more my own observation is that the niceties of romance, emotions all seem to have died in one huge tsunami of technology where even a poor singer's singing can be corrected with auto tuners and finally people seem to love loud sound more than music!!! But I do notice that when it comes to competitions the youngsters of today pick up only old songs like this one to sing, because this song has a musical soul that can be sung... what can you sing in "why this kolaveri"????!!!!
What a melody. I'm a big fan of PB Srinivas .Both PBS and P.Sushela have sung this song Nee mudeda mallige maale beautifully.Perhaps PBS did not get so much adulation that SPB got which is very sad.PBS had a devine voice.
Gandhinagara is not a mythological film as mentioned in the write-up. Nevertheless it is a nice film with this melodious duet. Full marks to Smt P. Susheela & Shree P. B. Srinivas. Good evening all.
