- A television documentary from 1980 jointly produced by KATU in Portland and KOMO in Seattle profiling the eruption of Mount St. Helens. Another excellent vintage program about the volcano with an equally solid vintage synthesizer soundtrack.
From the VHS box: "Documentary on the eruption of Mt. St. Helens in Washington State, May 18, 1980. Includes short interviews with survivors of the eruption, and with Harry Truman, the 'Old Man of the Mountain' who gained fame by his refusal to leave his home, even though it cost him his life."

That soundtrack isn't screwing around.
Were you a kid when mount st. Helens erupted?
@@MrJufin i was 15 yup damb time flys😁
Mr Jufin Yes! I was about to turn three years old. :-)
Dude clearly loved his synthesizer.
I was 8. Even at that young age, this Mountain has had a profound impact on my life.
This past Friday was the 40th anniversary of that first steam eruption. Even as a 13-year-old, I remember thinking it was sad to see the deformation of the top of the cone. The "big one" was 6 days after my 14th birthday.
I was 8. We still have the property we had back then in Mason County. I remember our 1964 Rambler station wagon being covered with something. My grandfather was a painter, and when he dipped his fingers into the covering, he immediately recognized it as Pumice. And that's when we realized My St Helens had blown. Not knowing how bad it would get, we dropped everything and headed to Bremerton where we lived. Back then we didn't have to worry about locking things up. I am still enamored with Mt St Helens today. And visit her at least 3 times a year. Not only is it a new experience EVERY time. It NEVER gets old. I am only 49, but am an old soul. And I can COMPLETELY understand why Mr Harry Truman refused to leave. I wouldn't have either. How could you, after over 50 years of living there? After living there? Anything else wouldn't be "life". I was at the 39th anniversary, and the author of a book about David Johnston was there signing books she had written. About her friend. It was quite an honor to meet someone who, 40 years later, still speaks so highly of another person. I'm blessed I was there that day to meet her
That poor man video taping while walking through that pitch black darkness and ash. I think I would have just completely panicked. Full blown freakout panic attack like no other.
The mountain said "The damn 70's are OVER".
I am fascinated with the mount St. Helen's eruption
Harry Truman was stubborn old coot wasn't he?
Yep. He probably wasn't far from death even if he had heeded the warnings. He was very old. His poor cats, though.
Harry R Truman was a goddamn madman, RIP
Harry was a very, very good man. I spent lazy days in his boats on Spirit Lake.
Harry Truman was quite a character.
How in the world did that guy survive having that much trouble breathing for ten more hours.
Salve a me i vulcani sono sempre perché sono affascinanti ma anche fanno paura o visto il Vesuvio a Napoli e FantAsticho già da piccola guardavo i documentari sono contenta di averlo visto
When was this filmed? I see 1980, but what date?

man the sound track on this makes it nigh unwatchable.
Oh dear god help me, is what all atheists say when shi hits the fan. Not saying he is an atheist but just telling the truth.
There are no atheists in foxholes or near erupting volcanoes.
Well I guess that means that he was NEVER an atheist was he.
