Your How to Hebrides series was superb and we've since explored most of the islands, including North Uist where we spyed your caravan and car outside your home with one of the best views on the island. I have spent most of my working life as a garden designer and professional gardener. I am so excited for you as you embark on your new garden journey. I hope you have a lot of fun with it. Dear Andrew, if there was a video I needed to watch, this was it. I have followed you for nearly all the time you created content, I watched with envy as you traveled around in your airstream, hoping that one day I could follow in your footsteps. I had a job that I loved, working for an airline, I had visited nearly every continent, stayed in 100s of cities, I imagined that I would fly just a few more years, accept the pay off and be free to follow my dreams. Well of course that didn’t happen, Covid led to lay offs, getting another job proved impossible, then the slow but steady decline into a deep depression that nearly took me. This week, my closest and dearest friends intervened, they refuse to let me go, they are arranging a team to clean my house, remove all the things I’ve hoarded, they’ve reminded me of the qualities that I have. Andrew , listening to you has made me realise that you can move on, that you can appreciate the past, but make new dreams, thank you
Ugh, so sorry to hear that. Covid was such a bitch to the aviation industry and those for whom it was their life. Now of course they'll only take you back on one of those dreadful 'new' contracts where you work like a slave for a pittance. I'm so glad you have decent friends who are helping you out. Hi Andrew, thanks for the update, it’s lovely to see you again on UA-cam. So sorry about Dougal , really made me emotional. Me and my husband have not been having a good time recently. We lost our lovely dog 4 yrs ago to old age , got a new dog a while after and unfortunately discovered she had a degenerative brain disorder which affects her coordination and cannot run / exercise like normal dogs and totally changes your lifestyle. Since then my husband has had quite alot of issues with his health and so have I . Sometimes it just feels like the gift that keeps on giving 😕. That said we are giving our dog the best life we can until she reaches a point of too much discomfort and also adjusting to our health problems the best we can . Happy New Year, Andrew, and nice to hear from you again! Poor Dougal - sadly time catches up with us all 😕 This story struck a chord because we had a somewhat similar scare around Easter last year with my mum's then 9.5 year old shih-tzu, who suddenly lost the ability to coordinate his back legs one day. The emergency vet we took him to had concerns this may not return, and we too found ourselves in the horrible position of preparing to weigh up longevity vs quality of life. Injections were given followed by a course of Myloxicam and Gabapentin, and thankfully he recovered strongly and quickly, and seems now to be almost as agile as he was before, albeit with some minor concessions such as adding rugs where there was previously hard flooring to provide a better grip. So glad to see Dougal seems to have been blessed with the same good fortune, and of course you're absolutely right to prioritise pain-free enjoyment of whatever time he has left to him. When that heartbreaking day comes, I hope you will take both comfort in knowing that there are over 82000 of us who will be sharing your grief, and pride in the knowledge that through your love, devotion and spirit of freedom, he has been able to enjoy absolutely the best life a wee dog could dream of! (I love how Ted has organically assumed the role of Dougal's 'emotional support dog, too!) Glad to hear things are starting to fall into place for you after the last few challenging years. I first found your channel about four years ago when I was getting nostalgic about my family's relatively brief sojourn into caravanning during my youth in the late 80s / early 90s ( in a Thomson Glenalmond, no less!) and your content played no small part in inspiring me to revisit caravanning - not to mention being a huge boon in my efforts to persuade my wife of the pleasures to be had! We've enjoyed sharing in your travels, and we will take no less pleasure in accompanying you on this latest chapter in your life. You seem so much more relaxed and comfortable these days than we've ever seen you - I'd bet your migraines have seen an improvement this last year or so too? By now I've waxed far too lyrical, so I will end by extending our heartfelt best wishes to you and everyone you hold dear!
We have a Jack Russell cross who will be 17 in March. Deaf as a post and we use a pushchair for her when she wants a ride, but she's happy and living a good life, and for as long as that's the case, we're happy. Gotta love Jack Russells!
Lovely video, Andrew. A few tears from me when you updated us on Dougal. I lost my 14 year old Jack Russell back in 2020. Will always miss him, but so many happy memories. Glad you are still enjoying your job, and how exciting to have a new house. Hopefully your IKEA delivery was all present and correct. Dear Andrew it makes me and I am sure all your followers so glad that you are now content with life. It’s a rare and wonderful thing. My husband and I are almost, not quite doing the reverse. All our lives we’ve been ‘sensible’ saving up, never doing anything extravagant, paid off the mortgage etc. I hit 70 in 2024 and we realised life is too short not to do all the things we want to do. So we’ve traded in the caravan for a Motorhome and along with Scooby our Jack Russell we’re going to go to as many places that have been on the list for years as we can. Our son lives way up north so it will enable us to visit him more often too. Scooby sends love to Dougal and Ted x

We have found somewhere though in the countryside in Shropshire between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster! It's a park home not far from the river Severn but on high ground!! We'll be able to hear the trains on the Severn Valley Railway!! Not far from the country park too. I'm really excited and can't wait to move, like you, I have absolutely tons of stuff to get rid of! Its great to hear from you again. I can understand your desire to be settled. I’ve always been torn between a love of touring in my van and enjoying my home and especially my garden. I couldn’t be a full time van lifer as I need to grow things and after 30 years I’m rooted to my own small corner of the UK. I’ve watched the trees and shrubs I’ve planted grow into glory and every year grow as many vegetables as I can fit in. However I also feel at home in the Western Isles every summer, even though my veg suffer and the garden is a wilderness when I return. Hope your new home gives you that sense of peace and belonging we all need, but that you’ll still have the desire to travel a little and share with us. Happy new year!

Hi Andrew, it sounds like you’re at peace and content with your lot. That is fantastic news. It’s something that I sort of experienced a few years ago when I was made redundant and retired at 54. I got rid of most of my toys and, like you, my greatest pleasure every day is walking my dog. I rarely carry a mobile phone unless driving, have never done social media (except for watching some excellent UA-cam content) and don’t obsess over stuff in the news. Dear, dear Dougal. Jack Russells were part of our lives for over 30 years, and we had to gently guide our last one to the Rainbow Bridge just two years ago. I will unashamedly admit that it was Dougal (and later Ted) who drew me to watch your channel, but I have enjoyed your other content as well. Thank you for your update. I will look very much forward to your future videos, especially any about your job and trains! Please hug both your boys for me. I so miss our JRTs every day. I have much experience with dogs, JRTs in particular, and I will tell you that it is never easy to say good bye, but you will know when it is time; and remember that they don't want to leave you just as much as you want them to stay. But also realize that sometimes they just need your permission, which is hard to give but sometimes necessary. Ted will miss him as much as you will, but it is good you have each other.

Its always hard to admit to ourselves that they are in their final years. We have a 16 year old shit zue whos only got 1 front and 1 back leg working properly now. Shes mostly blind, has selective hearing, but all the time she is still eatting drinking and managing to toilet with no intervention from us and is very willing to move fast when she wants to even though her legs cant, we are happy to nurse her for as long as it takes. We wont let her suffer and when the time comes as hard as it is we will do the best and kindest thing we can. All the best for your future mr D. Xx
Everything happens for a reason and you're at this point for a reason ... I was told once that self analysis was unhealthy which I now tend to agree with. We don't have to explain or justify ourselves when searching for contentment ... I retired at 58 and apart from getting away in the van what I enjoy most is walking out from the house, down the canals and into the countryside, no cars, vans & definitely no hassle ... Enjoy what makes you content and happy and ef'm all 👍 ... We'll look forward to your biking & gardening adventures, especially growing your own 🌾🫛🥕🫑🥔👍👍

Your How to Hebrides series was superb and we've since explored most of the islands, including North Uist where we spyed your caravan and car outside your home with one of the best views on the island.
I have spent most of my working life as a garden designer and professional gardener. I am so excited for you as you embark on your new garden journey. I hope you have a lot of fun with it. Dear Andrew, if there was a video I needed to watch, this was it. I have followed you for nearly all the time you created content, I watched with envy as you traveled around in your airstream, hoping that one day I could follow in your footsteps. I had a job that I loved, working for an airline, I had visited nearly every continent, stayed in 100s of cities, I imagined that I would fly just a few more years, accept the pay off and be free to follow my dreams. Well of course that didn’t happen, Covid led to lay offs, getting another job proved impossible, then the slow but steady decline into a deep depression that nearly took me. This week, my closest and dearest friends intervened, they refuse to let me go, they are arranging a team to clean my house, remove all the things I’ve hoarded, they’ve reminded me of the qualities that I have. Andrew , listening to you has made me realise that you can move on, that you can appreciate the past, but make new dreams, thank you

Ugh, so sorry to hear that. Covid was such a bitch to the aviation industry and those for whom it was their life. Now of course they'll only take you back on one of those dreadful 'new' contracts where you work like a slave for a pittance. I'm so glad you have decent friends who are helping you out. Hi Andrew, thanks for the update, it’s lovely to see you again on UA-cam. So sorry about Dougal , really made me emotional. Me and my husband have not been having a good time recently. We lost our lovely dog 4 yrs ago to old age , got a new dog a while after and unfortunately discovered she had a degenerative brain disorder which affects her coordination and cannot run / exercise like normal dogs and totally changes your lifestyle. Since then my husband has had quite alot of issues with his health and so have I . Sometimes it just feels like the gift that keeps on giving 😕. That said we are giving our dog the best life we can until she reaches a point of too much discomfort and also adjusting to our health problems the best we can . My two dogs are almost 13 and 15, so I'm in the same place with them and have made the same decision. They are still enjoying life so all is well. It's hard though, isn't it. Poor Dougal - sadly time catches up with us all 😕 This story struck a chord because we had a somewhat similar scare around Easter last year with my mum's then 9.5 year old shih-tzu, who suddenly lost the ability to coordinate his back legs one day. The emergency vet we took him to had concerns this may not return, and we too found ourselves in the horrible position of preparing to weigh up longevity vs quality of life.
Injections were given followed by a course of Myloxicam and Gabapentin, and thankfully he recovered strongly and quickly, and seems now to be almost as agile as he was before, albeit with some minor concessions such as adding rugs where there was previously hard flooring to provide a better grip.
So glad to see Dougal seems to have been blessed with the same good fortune, and of course you're absolutely right to prioritise pain-free enjoyment of whatever time he has left to him. When that heartbreaking day comes, I hope you will take both comfort in knowing that there are over 82000 of us who will be sharing your grief, and pride in the knowledge that through your love, devotion and spirit of freedom, he has been able to enjoy absolutely the best life a wee dog could dream of! (I love how Ted has organically assumed the role of Dougal's 'emotional support dog, too!)
Glad to hear things are starting to fall into place for you after the last few challenging years. I first found your channel about four years ago when I was getting nostalgic about my family's relatively brief sojourn into caravanning during my youth in the late 80s / early 90s ( in a Thomson Glenalmond, no less!) and your content played no small part in inspiring me to revisit caravanning - not to mention being a huge boon in my efforts to persuade my wife of the pleasures to be had! We've enjoyed sharing in your travels, and we will take no less pleasure in accompanying you on this latest chapter in your life. You seem so much more relaxed and comfortable these days than we've ever seen you - I'd bet your migraines have seen an improvement this last year or so too?
By now I've waxed far too lyrical, so I will end by extending our heartfelt best wishes to you and everyone you hold dear!
We have a Jack Russell cross who will be 17 in March. Deaf as a post and we use a pushchair for her when she wants a ride, but she's happy and living a good life, and for as long as that's the case, we're happy. Gotta love Jack Russells!
Lovely video, Andrew. A few tears from me when you updated us on Dougal. I lost my 14 year old Jack Russell back in 2020. Will always miss him, but so many happy memories. Glad you are still enjoying your job, and how exciting to have a new house. Hopefully your IKEA delivery was all present and correct. Dear Andrew it makes me and I am sure all your followers so glad that you are now content with life. It’s a rare and wonderful thing. My husband and I are almost, not quite doing the reverse. All our lives we’ve been ‘sensible’ saving up, never doing anything extravagant, paid off the mortgage etc. I hit 70 in 2024 and we realised life is too short not to do all the things we want to do. So we’ve traded in the caravan for a Motorhome and along with Scooby our Jack Russell we’re going to go to as many places that have been on the list for years as we can. Our son lives way up north so it will enable us to visit him more often too. Scooby sends love to Dougal and Ted x

Hi Andrew, it's funny because your channel has encouraged me to do the opposite from you :) I had a work break for family reasons, and am now planning on getting a new caravan and upgrading car to EV - to get out family instead of being in haha! I completely see how the caravan industry need full modernisation to stay relevant in a changing landscape. You probably had all of us watching in tears listening to what happened to him. He is well loved by so many people especially his dad!! My Holly is now 7! Can't believe how quickly time has gone. In 3 weeks time, it's been a whole year since my brother passed away, still can't believe it! Love your new house! Looks very comforting and homey! We have to move too now, we have a year to leave. We have found somewhere though in the countryside in Shropshire between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster! It's a park home not far from the river Severn but on high ground!! We'll be able to hear the trains on the Severn Valley Railway!! Not far from the country park too. I'm really excited and can't wait to move, like you, I have absolutely tons of stuff to get rid of! So again, no van!! Will it ever happen now?! Needs must and we have to have a home first! Its great to hear from you again. I can understand your desire to be settled. I’ve always been torn between a love of touring in my van and enjoying my home and especially my garden. I couldn’t be a full time van lifer as I need to grow things and after 30 years I’m rooted to my own small corner of the UK. I’ve watched the trees and shrubs I’ve planted grow into glory and every year grow as many vegetables as I can fit in. However I also feel at home in the Western Isles every summer, even though my veg suffer and the garden is a wilderness when I return. Hope your new home gives you that sense of peace and belonging we all need, but that you’ll still have the desire to travel a little and share with us. Happy new year!

Hi Andrew, it sounds like you’re at peace and content with your lot. That is fantastic news. It’s something that I sort of experienced a few years ago when I was made redundant and retired at 54. I got rid of most of my toys and, like you, my greatest pleasure every day is walking my dog. I rarely carry a mobile phone unless driving, have never done social media (except for watching some excellent UA-cam content) and don’t obsess over stuff in the news.

Dear, dear Dougal. Jack Russells were part of our lives for over 30 years, and we had to gently guide our last one to the Rainbow Bridge just two years ago. I will unashamedly admit that it was Dougal (and later Ted) who drew me to watch your channel, but I have enjoyed your other content as well. Thank you for your update. I will look very much forward to your future videos, especially any about your job and trains! Please hug both your boys for me. I so miss our JRTs every day. I have much experience with dogs, JRTs in particular, and I will tell you that it is never easy to say good bye, but you will know when it is time; and remember that they don't want to leave you just as much as you want them to stay. But also realize that sometimes they just need your permission, which is hard to give but sometimes necessary. Ted will miss him as much as you will, but it is good you have each other.

Happy New Year Andrew. Glad Dougal made a good recovery. We had to say goodbye to our cat of 14 years a few days before Christmas so fully understand your feelings. Best wishes for the future and we look forward to seeing what you do next.

Great to see you well and happy Andrew. It’s so hard as dogs get older knowing what to do and when. Never gets easier. I thank you so much for doing the UA-cam part of your journey as it inspired me to spend a lot more time in Scotland these days and from motorhome I am now Tenting. Spending around 13 weeks a year up there and revisiting your scotvlogs!
Andrew, as many others have said you owe us nothing… however saying this… thank you for the update and letting us into your life. You are a humble person that lives a life I aspire too. I also shed a few tears with you when you talked about Dougal. A dog brings so much joy but also deep sadness, something that our family experienced in 2023.
No matter the content I’ll continue to follow you. All the very best to you for 2025.

Andrew how lovely to hear from you. I remember that you had to give up your live in Scottland and how sad you were. And now live brought you to this point that you realised that live is good, just as it is right now. The restlessness that you might miss out something is gone and seeing you just happy with your job and loved ones is great.

Sometimes, it takes a long journey to make you realise the journey home is what you needed. Life is always ready to throw turmoil (some bad and some good) in our direction. Have fun setting up your new home. Unfortunately, I am the wrong person to ask about home decor. I haven't changed anything for thirty years unless it broke down. ❤hey mr D! Happy new year cariad. X Great to see you looking and sounding so well and contented. Also relieved that you aren't stopping doing your vlogs😊. Poor old Dougal hes looking older now. Its always hard to admit to ourselves that they are in their final years. We have a 16 year old shit zue whos only got 1 front and 1 back leg working properly now. Shes mostly blind, has selective hearing, but all the time she is still eatting drinking and managing to toilet with no intervention from us and is very willing to move fast when she wants to even though her legs cant, we are happy to nurse her for as long as it takes. We wont let her suffer and when the time comes as hard as it is we will do the best and kindest thing we can.

Everything happens for a reason and you're at this point for a reason ... I was told once that self analysis was unhealthy which I now tend to agree with. We don't have to explain or justify ourselves when searching for contentment ... I retired at 58 and apart from getting away in the van what I enjoy most is walking out from the house, down the canals and into the countryside, no cars, vans & definitely no hassle ... Enjoy what makes you content and happy and ef'm all 👍 ... We'll look forward to your biking & gardening adventures, especially growing your own 🌾🫛🥕🫑🥔👍👍

You wear your ‘heart on your sleeve’ and are so honest about how vulnerable you are, it is quite refreshing. So sorry Dougal is feeling his age, we have a similar issue with one of our dogs so understand your concern. Good luck with your new life, house, partner etc. and all the best for 2025.
