Zakk has no sense of pretentiousness. I've loved him since No Rest For The Wicked came out and all his projects since then. He's funny and never takes himself too seriously.
Zakk is amazing and any rock or metal fan who hasn't listened to NRFTW or No More Tears really needs to, those albums are classics. I love Zakk too because he is such a good dude and I love the fact that he appreciates the musicians and bands that came after him, he's not one of those dudes who are stuck in the past and with his level of talent he's the one who should have an ego, but he doesn't have an ego at all.
@@LeadMe2TheBlissExactly same reasons. I realised how stuck in the past Rex and the other dude are it seems, especially Rex, even Rick played into it. But man Zakk is pretty modern and with the times. He can see how the world is now with where tech is and instead of pointing at us youngins, he points out the hypocrisy cause they would've done the exact same shit. Zakk is a real one, a good one, and this interview solidifed that for me.
I agree but the problem is you give humans an inch and they take a mile. More bands should do like what Tool does and prohibit cell phones. If your phone is out recording, you’re kicked out. However, at the end of their show they let everyone record the last song of their set. It’s a strict rule, but everyone for the most part adheres to it and it makes for a much more enjoyable experience.
If it's a few people, I don't care. If it's half the people standing around not participating, that's freaking annoying. And to comment on what Zakk's saying: I didn't film AC/DC when I could have, I didn't film BB King, I didn't film Ennio Morricone. No, I wouldn't film Zeppelin. Maybe a pic or two, if at all. But I value the experience, the moment way too much.
I live in the Midwest, I'm 59 and about 7 years ago I took my 16 year old daughter (she's a huge Beatles, Stones, even Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin fan) to see Paul McCartney. I recorded a handful of songs (Partial songs) from the show. We were elevated in our seating, held my phone chest level and didn't block anyone's view of the concert. One of my favorite memories with my daughter. A couple years ago my college age son took me to see John Mayer, great concert and same thing. I go back and watch them a couple times a year. Honestly, if camera phones were available in the late 70's/80's seeing some of the shows I've seen, without hesitation I would do the same thing. Elvis, Van Halen 1980, Cheap Trick with the original AC/DC opening, Early Rush and so many more. It's better than getting the t-shirt. :)
I have pictures that I took in 1972 of Led Zeppelin in San Francisco at Keyser Stadium. I asked a stranger to get on his shoulders, so I could see the stage better. I still have them and the negatives. So cool. I also have some of the Rolling Stones at the Cow Palace in 1974. They let you bring your camera in with lenses, no problem. The 70's: no control, I feel sorry for the kids now, so much control of everything. I also followed The Grateful Dead, and New Riders, have great pictures of Jerry Garcia with his Fender. Those were the days, my friend.
People are ADDICTED to their damn phones and cameras. They're so fixated on documenting a "moment" that they completely miss the opportunity to be IN those moments and have a genuine experience, the memory of which lives in and with you forever.
Most phone recordings do nothing beyond proving you were there (in terms of audio and video quality). I would pay an extra fee to have pro-shot footage and soundboard audio of a concert I attend. That way you can take a few photos before and after to document the evening and enjoy the rest of the show.
"Most" probably, but there are enough of pretty good phone based concert recordings on UA-cam to make many of us happy that some people actually record the concerts and upload them. There are even people collecting recordings and editing multi camera videos based on audience recordings. Some (many, actually) are pretty good. It would be really great to have some sort for pro recording, but as that is not going to happen, I am happy for what we get. Not living in the US, and not even living in a large city, the chance to see any major act is slim to none.
To be fair he was asking for it by setting up the camcorder in a moshpit. I can't feel bad for the guy he was literally asking for that to happen let's be real lol
I have to disagree about the backing tracks topic though. If people pay top dollar to see a live show it should be performed by the band not some recording. Just my opinion
As silly as this may sound but people constantly using their phones at shows is the main reason why I don't go to any big shows any more. It fucking sucks.
I dont know, ive been to arch enemy, vai and amon amarth this year, people did use phones, but not all the time. So did I, im honestly grateful for it. I happened to be visiting family in Colorado years ago and a friend of mind suggested touring the grounds of Red Rocks. When he mentioned it, just out of curiosity I decided to check the calendar and see who was playing that week. A Perfect Circle was playing in 2 days. I've never been more excited. Visiting the venue alone would have been thrilling in itself, but seeing a show like that in a venue like that - it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Anyone who knows Maynard knows he's a stickler about cameras at shows, and it really bummed me out. Thank god he let people pull out the cameras for the last song. I still watch the videos and look at the pictures almost 10 years later. It was an almost spiritual experience, and I love to relive it if only through a minute long video clip and a handful of pics.
I saw Janet Jackson back in 2015 and there was a lot of lip synching. The funniest thing was the guitarist was guitar synching the solo for the song "Black Cat". I know that solo note for note and I knew 1/4 of the way in that it was a backing track of the solo. Funny thing is, I'm a drummer and I knew right away. I used to play that song in a band back in the early 90's.
For my money, I just enjoy the show. My phone stays down. I saw Randy Rhodes play on Diary of a Mad Man tour. I still remember it too. I don't watch fan posted video for my reasons.
I went and saw the Cult for the first time and I recorded 1 minute moments of their performance. I wanted some memories and things to look back on of some of my favorite songs that they performed.
I saw the Firm in Hartford. I had a Nikon F3 and 180mm lens and I was in the 10th row. I got 2 pics of Page and I swear he knew I was not taking that camera off my face . He kept his hair over his face the whole time. 😣

Now today you have those same bands wishing that people got more videos of them from back in the day. I don’t mind the phone thing.
