Love both of these guys. But most impressed with Duran who came up from lightweight to middleweight and gave one of the top 3 middleweights of all time all he wanted and then some. If you listen to Hagler, he is trying to convince himself he dominated which he did not.

MMV was a true champion - It is obvious that MMV just could not be KO’d ever. He was much too tough not only for Duran but also for the likes of Hearns, Mugabi etc. True tough guy, the Marvellous one.

It’s a miracle that Duran “ a natural lightweight” could even compete . Makes Hagler look bad as a great middleweight 😳

@@jbd5870 Also people exaggerate that he was only good as a lightweight.
Just because a fighter starts at a certain weight it dosent mean that has to be hes best weight.
      Fighters mature body wise.
Duran lost at lightweight and he had by far hes best win at welterweight.
Ive seen alot of Durans older fights and he never looked better then waht he did at 29 years old at welter
Duran became middlweight champion 6 years after this and 14 years after this he beat Jorge Castro that was world class.
Castro was a former world champ that later fought for the world cruiserweight title

In between fights, Duran's lifestyle was atrocious, & completely lacked discipline. This was A technical fight that Marvin needed. Marvin Hagler was never hurt in the fight, & for once in my opinion, Marvin Hagler didn't feel that "Killer Instinct" towards Duran. Throughout his entire career, if Duran would've had the discipline, character, & Drive that Hagler had during his entire career, Duran would've re-written all of Boxing history. Following this fight, both Fighters took different directions in their Boxing careers. Duran was knocked out by The Hit-Man Hearns in round 3, & The Champion Hagler went on to flourish even more as a true Champion.

We at ImaSportsphile really appreciate this comment....but the truth is that if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we would all have a merrier Christmas....however de Manos de Piedra did pretty good without discipline in writing the boxing history books.

Duran was the fighter of the 1970s; that's not even in dispute. He had his disciplined years at 135; everything else was just a bonus.
And Hagler was a pansy who ducked catchweight meetings with Spinks et al.

haggler was confused. he did not know what to fight Duran..Duran is not only a fighter he is a boxer . haggler only fight in one weight and Duran come all the weight from light weight and give you that kind of fight on your weight . you couldn't Duran knock him out. or put him in the ground . Duran was not in his best shape and give you a hell of the fight..ashamed on you haggler . give respect and recognized you fought to a best Latino fighter ever. Marvin never gave proper credit or kudos. "His power was nothing" One he's a little guy, two luckily i believe he broke his right hand. Duran and Leonard are both above Marvin and he's very bitter about it. I like him but he doen't talk with respect after fights like most. He always seems to be looking for more acknowledgement and whining.

Rubbish, MMH is a serious fighter and a serious fighter will talk himself up and exude confidence as opposed to “giving credit to the opponents”. Save the “giving credit” nonsense for soccer and tennis! MMH was an absolute solid chin, solid head, solid body fighter who never even looked hurt in the ring, let alone being KO’d. He was the best of the lot but just got pipped at the tail end of his career by SRL. Duran never stood a chance against MMH - If Duran and MMH fought five times, MMH would probably beat him every time. We should thank MMH for providing us with so much excitement.

Mr. Hagler: Duran was not in his best shape or in his ideal weight class. You are fighting in your country and still could not knock out Duran. How many of you USA fighters would have lost fighting in the opponent patio. You had all the advantages: 1. you ideal weight 2. you were on your prime , Duran did not 3. Fighting in your country.. and you could not knocked out Roberto Duran? If Duran has come in the same level of shape of Duran-Leonard 1 , he would have won that fight (not mentioning that if it were place in Panama City). So, no excuse, Duran in disanvantage and provided the public with a good fight. Come on, more respect to a boxer that is Pound X Pound better than you...

I believe that the world saw the best Middle weight ever (Hagler), the best welter weight ever (Sugar Ray Leonard) and the best light weight ever ( R. Duran).
