When I lived in a home on a mountain in New Mexico we put in a woodstove that had a small built in fan at the top. It was not visible but it was effective. The warm air from the fire triggered it. I was wondering if there is a way you could use a fan to encourage the warm air further into the room? Trick is to find something unobtrusive. A warm Stephanie is a happy Stephanie!

'We're at the big table". lol Leave it to Amaury to make us smile. So much going on. I think of your Chateau as more of a commune. I'm a "hippy" from the 1060's and 70's, and I've always lived with people around me. I love having all the family here, together, sharing life. It is the best. Your open door shows your open heart.

@@CocoDog-777 ...a thousand years ago! ....nearly.
      You caught that too! 😉
I've commented several times how Stephanie has something between a hippie commune where there are many 'chiefs' but no 'Indians' to do the more difficult work ....to more of a hierarchical Medieval community with a Lady & Lord at the top giving out orders & directions to the serfs to keep things running smoothly ....or more of an artistic/intellectual Parisian salon of very creative types based on a more egalitarian model of societal harmony ....I think it fluctuates actually between all three ....and then there is the extended family component. That is what makes it so incredibly interesting & compelling for viewers who marvel at the many layers of complexity of Stephanie's life she has created at the chateau & her travels. It's like peeling back the many layers of an onion ...or peaking inside a blooming rose. Take your pick! 😉

I love seeing Ollie's perspective on his art as he continues feeling better. While I haven't been ill, I suffered the gutwrenching loss of my most beloved furbaby a month ago after a few years of increasing stress and anxiety and illness, and I find a lot of parallels with channeling these things into something positive. I'm volunteering at a shelter to help other furry friends as I just can't adopt again right now for many reasons, and I've also been trying to express my feelings into a lot of different art pieces. It's lovely seeing the smile return to Ollie, and hopefully myself in time as well. Thank you for sharing the joy of daily life at La Lande and beyond.

Always an uplift to see friends gathered at LaLande. For Americans (and others) watching, the museum referred to at the end, The Cloisters, is located in New York City just north of Harlem. It is quite an experience and particularly if you have an appreciation for medieval art. The museum's setting is, in fact, a small monastery purchased by the Rockefeller family and moved from Spain to NYC eons ago. It's setting is also spectacular in that it sits within a lovely city park (Tryon Park) that overlooks the Hudson. Breathtaking! The museum is easily accessible via public transportation. It's reputation has grown over the years and is well worth a stop during your next visit to New York City.

Four medieval cloisters kept in The Cloisters Museum in New York actually come from France (the names of the abbeys are Saint-Michel de Cuxa, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, Bonnefont-en-Comminges, Trie-sur-Baïse). The fifth one comes also from a French priory, Froville, located in North Eastern France). The museum keeps also the apse from a Spanish chapel (San Martín de Fuentidueña).

Stefanie, while you were going up the stairs, I noticed the beautiful wallpaper🌸 I’m very found of that. The house I’m staying at, there’s kind of same style, or smaller. What I like about it is that it reflects like candles at night. Good to see Oliver dedicating sometime for art.

This vlog was the Best! Seeing Ollie emerge back into his art even if doodling it didn’t matter-what it does is spark his soul with much needed creativity and healing. Keep going Ollie. 👏👏👏 Michaels easy going manner and Jack of all trades was surely a blessing helping fix the stove and anything else. Love seeing so many creative artists in one household. Bravo Stephanie 👏❤️👏

Stephanie and Phillip! You can purchase cheaply a wood burner thermometer. It's a round dial with a magnetic back that you place where the flue is attached to the box and it tells you the temp of the fire. It will also show if the fire is burning too cold (creating creosote), burning at optimal level and burning too hot (damaging the wood burner). It's such a handy tool. You will then know whether to increase or decrease the air flow for the perfect temperature. Thanks to Michael Petherick for showing you how to use it properly, it's an expensive mistake to have the wood burner too hot, and also dangerous.

The company who installed them should have made sure they were correctly set up for use and showed them how to operate them. Cowboys methinks.

Michael did just save your stove. I’m really shocked that it’s lasted this long burning that hot. It’s not even that old. I’m so happy for you that Michael explained it to you, so you can keep an eye on it. It’s too bad he didn’t notice sooner & saved the side door.

Isn’t it wonderful that Michael is fixing the fire stoves and showing the proper way to use them efficiently 😅 All is well at La Lande🥰

18:15 his chateau is beautiful. The honey colour local plaster, the storied court shape of the building with the towers, the kitchen room, the mature trees and grounds, and the romanic mottled light hitting the building in the evening.

***Stephanie, it's very concerning about the stove. Hadn't you just purchased the heater stove not long ago... How lovely that Michael is repairing it. However, with it being new and it being cracked and bowed. That's very concearning. You may need to get a it warrenty replaced. It may be under warranty. Good luck. God bless, great to see everyone together.

I noticed the door was bowed as well. I can’t believe they didn’t even read the instructions. I doubt a warranty would be relevant since the stove was used improperly.

A truly fantastic vlog today. Everyone busy and just slotted into daily life beautifully and how wonderful to see Oliver decompressing, Michael in his element and the stunning Marie doing her usual wonderful things. Chris seems to be another example of a truly exceptional artisan who has been drawn to Lalande. I love seeing Philip and Amaury working so smoothly together also. On another note, I’m so relieved to see Michael with his comprehensive knowledge servicing the log burner. I’ve lived and used them in old properties for over 45 years and it’s so important to check them regularly and keep the seals renewed and intact, to use the damper systems always to regulate the air flow and never over heat them. As well as being a huge fire risk it also damages the stove. It’s more common to see people mistakenly burning them too fast and hot, as they are often bought ‘off the shelf’ these days rather than from a specialist who will give people specific instructions, even a demonstration and information of how to use them correctly for safety and efficiency. It is quite an art keeping them going and regulating them, a bit like driving an old car well. Once mastered your chateau will be heated even better. We used to heat a large cottage only using wood burners in the major rooms, which could go constantly day and night if you know how to fuel them with seasoned wood and regulate the airflow. Now in another old property with high ceilings we use them to boost the heating when we have extreme cold or alone when the central heating isn’t needed. Stephanie, you are a miracle worker bringing these beautiful people all together at your amazing chateau. ❤
