For some reason, ALOT of reactors don’t watch this with subtitles, which lessens the reaction in my opinion. The music itself is freaking awesome but when ya know what they’re singing it takes the song to a completely different level
It’s almost as if they don’t know they need to ;). And when you figure it out… it’s too late. Also… I like to see if I can figure out the meaning by how well the artist conveys the emotion and the video tells the story.
@@VikingReacts very true. I was fortunate that I’d already been watching foreign language videos by the time The Hu showed up on my feed and knew to turn on CC. You don’t know what you don’t know. Sometimes all you need is a nudge. Many of Dimash videos have subtitles by the way.
The energy doesn’t go into crescendo the whole song through and feels kinda flat in my opinion. It “only” has some discrete build up. The tekst is a real buildup though, and the music needs to be just intimidating to complement the “smokes and mirrors”. Understanding the text make the song go level up in my opinion
I feel like the first listen should be without subtitles, then to go back with the subtitles. The song itself just has this primal, somehow ancient mysticism to it that just pulls you in even without the subtitles, and then knowing the lyrics after pulls you in deeper.
In saying that, I don’t begrudge anyone on their choice of how to listen or react to music be it in their native tongue or music from a different voice. 😊
I actually prefer it without subtitles. For some reason a lot of the meanings probably gets lost in translation when they start talking about elephants and tigers. Probably sounds cooler in Mongolian. I’ve had plenty of instances when knowing the words of the lyrics actually made me like it less for foreign songs. Like in my mind they were singing about something completely different.
The lyrics were written by a general of Genghis Khan's as a war poem.
Mongolian leader was Genghis Khan, German leader was Atilla the Hun, both were beloved by their people, feared by their enemies and truly legendary, all their music is traditional and traces its roots to ancient times.
Don’t know if anyone mentioned there is subtitled version, but basically it’s a song about meeting various adversaries with greater force.
I recently learned that the standing bass instrument is called a horsehead fiddle, awesome sound, the throat singing is so tribal and barbaric and the darkness descends, the music transcends, totally mind blowing toe tapping body swaying head banging hypnotic rhythm
Great reaction. The Hu is excellent live, twice. In addition to the great music, they seem to be genuinely amazed of the audience reaction and love it. Hope they stay that way.
Nice reaction, now I’ll give you information. “The Wolf Totem” is actually from a 12th century Mongolian poem that the HU shortened and put to music. The “XXL Violin” (as you called it) is the Morin Khuur (Horse Head Fiddle), it has 2 “strings” that (traditionally) are made from the tail hairs from a horse (traditionally the hairs must come from the player’s own horse to bind player to instrument and vice versa), the “Male” string has 150 hairs and the “Female” string has 130 hairs. The “guitar” is actually a Tovshuur (Mongolian Lute) and only has 3 strings.
Thank you for mentioning the swastika!! So many people afraid to mention it these days. I have Indian heritage and I had to warn my Indian great aunt not to wear her swastika earrings bcos of how people in the uk would react. I wish I didn’t have to warn people of their ignorance to her culture tho
It's very sad that a symbol with an entirely different meaning has been tarnished like that but it's totally fair for the West to hate the symbol. It's just a sad fact now that in western nations the only meaning it carries is suffering and death. I can't speak for others but I can say that the times I have seen it in the USA it's generally easy to tell for me if it's a "good" swastika. It's usually on a keychain or something else of a clearly Asian design and is generally carried by someone who looks like they come from a more eastern nation.
I managed this time to pause just on the swastika ring just before it was blurred.
The Hu are fantastic live. I saw them in my home town in the southern US. Nobody understood the language, but that didn't keep The Hu from packing the house and thrilling all who came. Especially impactful for me was their song "Black Thunder", which at one time had 6 guys on stage throat singing together. The original 2 part music video is worth watching, very much a blockbuster movie type production. Others to check out are "The Song of Women" with Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, "Shireg, Shireg" live in studio, and their latest "Mother Nature" ft. LP. The last 3 are of their more gentle side, beautiful stuff. The gentlemen in the band are wonderful souls, and The Hu were named by Unesco as an "Artist for Peace", the first metal band with that distinction.
Hu are amazing. The version of this song with Papa Roach is good, Sad But True, Song of Woman I think is my favourite though. Seeing the Hu as children with their mothers is just so touching and sweet. It helps that half the song is performed in English so I can understand it without subtitles yet still enjoy their amazing sound.
Do not forget the song is about "You come at me and we will kick your ass no matter how strong you are, how fast or what you think you are a master of. We are stronger , faster and are true masters." They use animals "come as *, we will #." The natural preditor, higher on the food chain.
Wait... Sad but True??? Metallica cover? I need to see that!
@@VikingReactsIt's more of a tribute, but yes, you need to see it.
No doubt. Even big scary Mongols love their mothers. Not ashamed to admit Song of Woman makes me tear up a little.
You mentioned that they give you “good campfire companions vibes”.
They have a UA-cam channel with more than music, they have cookouts making traditional Mongolian dishes.
You're technically right but its also conveying a message that if you mess with one of them you have to deal with all of them.
I concur it's great with the subtitles - the meanings come through, so you get more of the feeling of the song. Very powerful.
It's why Ghengis conquered half the world!
The lyrics are traditional Mongolian battle chats that the warriors would sing going into battle.
Wolf totem is my favorite song! Though, I can't sing all of it quite yet as I am still learning the language. The morin khuur (horse-headed fiddle) is indeed the traditional stringed instrument from Mongolia, and has a cool creation story. The "evil" talking part is one of my favorite phrases in the song "Provoked, the snow leopard competes with it's rivals" it basically means "if you come for a fight, we will give you one" with the subtext of "we will not lose."
*I am writing this from Mongolia and currently learning to throat-sing myself.
Yes, they are using Mongolian (central Asian) traditional instruments
My kid (8 years) love this song! 😅❤
Ohh I Just Love it!! It Brings Goose Bumps!! Amazing!!
Maybe it's just me, but I feel what they sing of, the visions of ancient ancestors and yes a wolf pack. From what I've seen of HU they are very deep in their culture. I've been following them for over a year now.
The horseman at the beginning holds the Khar Suld, the Black Banner of War of Gengis Khan's armies. Gengis Khan, meaning the Universal Ruler, is viewed a national hero in Mongolia. Basically, the lyrics say that whatever form the enemy takes, human, animal or supernatural, their people will stand, fight and blow them into smithereens. I think traditional throat singing goes very well with Metal!
"With the speed of the Falcon advancing
The Wolf's courage flaring up
The strenght of the horses' hooves, their paces pounding
The mark of Gengis Khan, a sight to behold!"
This is the official Video, so I presume the subtitles would give you the lyrics as they want them presented. Listen again with them turned on. There are several slightly different versions of Lyric translation if you search the interweb. I think the following is poassibly the closest :
If lions come, we'll fight until the end
If tigers come, we'll fight and battle
If elephants come, we'll fight in rage
If humans come, we'll fight and obliterate
We, If lions come, we'll fight until the end
If tigers come, we'll fight and battle
If elephants come, we'll fight in rage
If humans come, we'll fight and obliterate
If you come as snakes, we'll become Garuda birds and fly over you
If you come as tigers, we'll face you as Lions with blue mane
HU HU HU HU HU HU HU HU
If you come with evil intentions, we'll give you a fight!
Ten of us will strike you as thunder
Hundred of us will shatter your hearts
Thousand of us will destroy and obliterate
Ten thousand of us will hand you the wrath of heaven!
If you come as flood, we'll fight until the death
If you come swarming, we'll scatter you around
If you come flying, we'll shoot you down with our archeries
If you come charging, we'll slice you with our swords
HU HU HU HU HU HU HU HU
Let's cut through them as speed of flying falcons
Let's burn within as the hearts of wolves!
Let's stampede with our horses
Let's defeat them with the wisdom of our Great Khaan, Chinggis!
HU HU HU HU HU HU HU HU
... of course, the Truth is, that I can not think of one good, sane reason why ANYONE would want to find out exactly what they are singing about. Just in case they want to explain it
Epic! Thanks for that!
9:15 I can never get over how he can make his voice sound like a didgeridoo! And I wasn't new to hearing throat singing.
I’m in a senior building. Put this on the speaker and wake them up 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Love throat singing ❤❤❤ Avi can sing 2 tones at the same time. Did it with Pentatonix. I’ve watched throat singing documentaries ages ago. One guy I’ll never forget. Never a big fan of metal, but new artists are changing my mind. Thanks
9:03 Many of their songs have CC for translation, some don’t, this one “Wolf Totem” does so rewatch with CC turned on
There is a translated lyrics version, truly enlightening when you combines the words with the music.
Just stuff I read. Mongolia was never conquered. It’s the most sparsely populated country. 30% of the people are nomadic. One of the bikers is/was the president of Mongolia. Genghis Kahn took over more territory than anyone ever. If you joined them you were protected by their reputation. If not, you died.
Saw them live last year and they are AMAZING! I love Black Thunder…the version with Serj Tankian from System of a Down and Daniel Laskiewicz from Bad Wolves.
The Huns are the original shells angels
Men’s they’re playing is a fiddle. It’s a Mongolian instrument.
This is an ancient war chant … 12th century
The song is over 200 years old, good possibility the ancient guns did something like this song before battles
The poppa Roach one is also a great one. I love it.
These guys are awesome and yes that is throat singing
I think The HU are the best mongolian metal band. Hu means Humans. :D
Amazing thing that guys do is when they throut sing they can make several tones in same time. Indeed they layer up but each one of them are making several tones in same time. That is beauty of Mongolian throat singing.
The song itself is amazing, but The Hu has also collaborated with several American vocalists on some of their songs. This is one of them. Worth a watch!
I heard the word "kimchi" 😂 .. love this so much. I feel like this would be the best ufc walkout song ever
I understand that you didn't know a foreign language needs subtitles to understand the lyrics. BUT if you do watch it again WITH the subtitles turned on you will know exactly what they are saying. I will say that YES you are on the right track, but you will understand perfectly by reading the subtitles. And yes they are using traditional instruments! By the way, Hu is the Mongolian root word for Human! 🎶🎶👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤
Queen of the damned, Jon Davis From Korn made that soundtrack and it was not able to be released because of contract issues, so the songs in the film was multiple singers. I feel the vibe because Jon Davis did take inspiration from eastern culture
This is the best "Dont start none, wont be none." song there is
Rewatch the video with subtitles turned on. I don’t know the shortcut for a PC, but pressing “C” on a Mac will toggle subtitles. And yes, they are using both ancient traditional Mongolian instruments as well as modern.
Will do that from now on!
@@VikingReacts good idea for anything in a foreign language. I found out by accident that tapping the ‘c’ on a Mac will toggle subtitles on and off. Not sure about a PC, but worth a try.
@@VikingReacts The Hu have two versions of Song of Woman. The original gives you the lyrics right in the video, no need for subtitles. The video for that is special. It’s only my opinion, but I think you would be best served by reacting to that one first. Here’s the link for the original. ua-cam.com/video/JT4s43FvXuk/v-deo.html
In the remake, they reached out to an American female singer I didn’t know, probably due to genre preferences. They asked her to write and sing a female part to work with the original. I enjoy both, but I am slightly more partial to the remake. Here’s the link for the remake.
ua-cam.com/video/mdN1U9NvuIc/v-deo.html
I seem to recall that the Wolf Totem was the historical banner of Ghenghis Khan.
Amazing band!❤❤❤
You don't have the same fear as the rest of the countries' reactor.
Instead, you dance with it. Vikings got the blood of a warrior for sure.
Every time I hear this song, my veins are boiling, adrenaline erupting uncontrollably
When.GALA talked by his self.he said if you come with EVIl intentions we'll give you a fight.
Greetings to my Mongolian brothers, like a gray wolf on the path of sky tengri, may sky tengri always be with us.
The HU is one of the best metal bands nowadays. I fucking love them
Just a quick question... Do I need subtitles for all of their songs? If so... I will have them on by default next time :P
Yeah, subtitles will be needed as some parts of the songs are in Hindi ☺️
Great reaction. Song of Woman with Lizzy Hale is great if you are looking for another.
Jacobi does this song with them and he sings the words in English
Minor correction: Attila the Hun was not Mongol.
I love this being Native and I love indigenous instruments from around the world and being proud of indigenous culture despite the pressure of colonialism
Vikings meet Mongols!
Ah I love being from Oceania this is a war song for sure
The Hu are amazing. They got a unique sound you can’t get enough of… Next you need to check out Bloodywood with Gaddaar. Indian folk metal, its so goood. 😀
This just made me start practicing multitone throat singing and im a white guy in the eastern united states lol it felt really cool getting almost there to make the second tone on top of my shitty throat singing you can hear it before you can hear it
Yes they have song with singers you can understand. Song of a woman is just beutiful
They uploaded their next song segee/genius 30 minutes ago
You could just turn on the captions
Your 100percent right. The English translation is more specific, about not messing around with the Mongles.
For something to understand try the collaboration of The Hu and Lizzi Hail from Hailstorm, with Song of Women. East meets west, made for each other.
Its a song about war and being powerful in a short and simple term
Do the version of this with Shaddix...it's awesome.
Now try Song Of Women by the same band. There's a guest artist you might recognise. And it answers your plea for a song you can understand. 😀
Also The Great Chinggis Khaan.
I have a hearing impairment that makes it very difficult to separate human voices from background sounds. As a result I can rarely understand what people are singing regardless of the language. With a song like this, the message comes through loud and clear anyway. Love the HU. Get to see them next month. Very excited.
Maybe I’ll start adding subtitles again in that case. I used to do it for songs that aren’t English but it was such a lengthy and time consuming process that I’ve stopped doing it…
@@VikingReacts I'll turn on subtitles if I'm curious about the words, but I kind of like not knowing. The song can mean whatever I need it to mean if I don't know what it's supposed to mean, if you know what I mean. :P
@@andrewwamser7075 exactly how I like to do it as well ;)
I'm mostly impressed that 20 Harleys parked on dirt and not one of them tipped over. Definitely supernatural forces at work. ••• Thanks! PEACE!!!
True that!
You mean the Austrian painter?I've heard about him,his work is famous
Bro you deserve more likes and views!
I appreciate that! But I don’t bother to much with social media and such which would help with growth. I tend to see most socials as toxic platforms and I try to stay away from them. Also… I don’t have to be the biggest. It’s a musical journey in which I meet people that like what I like and that is fine with me. I love to see the community/channel grow but it’s not the end goal :). I really do appreciate the compliment though!
The jacoby verson is just the english version the hi still do the throat singing
They basically constantly sing with throat singing, but you maybe don’t hear clearly. There’s always more than one “voice”, because throat singing adds a second voice, but an octave higher, which creates that unique sound. Then, at least three of them do it, so they add harmonies on top of the throat singing. It’s quite impressive, especially withe those traditional instruments added in. No, they don’t sing things you can “understand”, because they sing in Mongolian! You gotta use the subtitles, dude.
There’s a version of the version with translations you should have done
Shame you don’t know that when doing a first time reaction ;)
If you do try this stock up on honey aloe drinks and warm cream to soothe your throat afterward, its gonna be rough for a while. However, do Not drink right after trying to sing it, wait a few sec because there will be coughing
My Lord Genghis, the reinforcements have arrived.
The Huns and the Mongols aren't the same peoples.
But I do get your reference.
You can get the lyrics up in English
Basically the song is about You come giving it sh!t you're gonna get back a lot more than you can handle. Awesome band
I actually love trying to figure this out by listening to the music. It shows how well the music is set up if I can understand without understanding the lyrics :)
Have you watched the Volfgang Twins? Awesome !
you should have used the vid with the vocal translation...
The jacoby version is just as good but don't feel like invading China after watching it
Please do the one with Papa Roach and the other with Lizzy Hail called " the song of women"
About 1000 years off Atilla ;p
The hi song of a woman if thats how Mongolian treated their women no wonder we all related to ghengis
put the cc on bro
Ik weet nooit of ik op een paard moet springen of op een motor als ik dit nummer hoor
Beide zijn een prima optie :P
Als je op de motor ga ik mee. Heb hem al een tijdje niet uitgelaten...
СС....?
If you do not understand a single word why not to press de cc button in the video?
they don't have it included in every video...
Don't disrespect the chinggisids with such comparison to the huns
No disrespect intended or implied. Don’t get your panties in a twist
