There are a couple of channels I watch that are dedicated scrapping channels that do both street and dumpster scrapping and they’re always interesting to watch and see what they’ve found that has been thrown away. It really should be more widely accepted since it keeps items being put into landfills unnecessarily that can be recycled. Even with businesses if they’ve put something in the dumpster, as long as someone isn’t making a mess for the business to clean up, it should be fine to get it.

I work at a scrap yard and that shiny wire is called bare bright and is worth more than #1. Might want to check and make sure you are getting paid fairly. Usually about 15 cents difference between the two.

    • @michaelbristol6467
      @michaelbristol6467 9 місяців тому +1

Yes I was gonna mention that BB bare bright was 10 cents more when I worked at the scrapyard. That was 95-05 tho prices are way higher now. I never seen copper over 1 dollar then, and I remember when it was down to 40 cents for a little while during that time. Big difference! 😉✌

I don’t usually comment. Just wanted to say whatever content you put out is awesome. Think would be hard to keep both channels going so would be cool to keep it all to one channel so those that watch your scrapping might start watching your fixes and flips. End of day your channel and content. Always nice to bring more content to the channel to change it up a bit. Property maintenance videos would be nice too. Tree trimming, fence fixes, painting is all content. Support you either way brotha 🤙🏽 keep up the awesome work.

I had a huge piece of waterproof heavy duty Army truck tarpaulin behind my house that I had used for a roof of a car port. My wife did not want it there anymore.
I knew this material was very expensive. I asked around for nearly a year that someone could pick it up for free.
One said he would come to have a look at it but was to lazy. At the end I had to dump it in a container that I had used for a lot of old broken construction stuff.
People are so spoilt, specially here in Switzerland. When I was a boy we went to collect old bottles and some old stuff in order to get some pocket money and it was fun for us.

I was scrapping for a few years, copper and brass. I had access to it at work. I was a trailer mechanic and did lots of wiring jobs. I even had some of the other shop personnel give me their copper and brass. I filled up bins and trash barrels of it. Best haul I did was $350. I don’t work in the shop anymore so most of the stuff I get is from home electrical repairs. Keep up the good work and you will be victorious in court.

Watch out!! the plastic coating is super toxic when on fire. The fumes from plastic kills more people in house fires than the actual flames. I know a scrapper that died from the wind shifting, he inhaled and fell into the barrel. Boil the wire in water for 10 minutes and that really does the trick, safely. I used to break up oak pallets to fire my hot pot. I was a junkman for 40 years and had my own yard.

I was foreman at my local scrapyard for 10 years and it was great! I even got to use the garage to do my bodywork jobs at night. I had a good gig. But unfortunately the EPA kept hounding the owner drilling holes looking for contamination and ended up going out of business for pollution that was left by the owners family beforehand. It was a small operation only around 5 or 6 guys but it was great while it lasted. The money to be made was endless pockets were always full of cash. We use to save all the copper wire up and strip it for extra Christmas cash, they paid us 25 cents a pound but that's when it was only 1 dollar a pound clean but when your talking 5,000 pounds it was a good payday! Anyways scrapping is in my blood and I'll watch you do some scrapping Mike. 👍

I recycled a yellow Brass Piano Harp once. But not before having to harvest that bad boy out of the piano woodwork. And needless to say.....Cha Ching!$ it was payday that day. Rainy day money for sure. But beware viewers , they aren't all yellow Brass. Many antique ones are also cast Iron.

I’ve been scraping off n on. Especially when it’s close to the holidays. Never know what you find out along the curbside. I’ve haven’t hit any dumpsters yet. But I use to n found some good things in them. I’ve been watching a few UA-cam channels on others doing scraping from different states and overseas. I’m down with another channel of you scraping.

Cool video. It would be cool to see you find the stuff too. As an example I like Mike The Scrapper dude in texas. He is really funny and shows going out and finding the stuff and makes jokes and punches dumpsters, ya gotta check him out. And he donates a portion to helping out bulldog rescues or something....

If you take apart electric motors you would find if the coil is good it worth more to replace brushes and contacts and sell it or put it to use.
I get electric motors stolen a lot by scrapers. They don’t care that it cost me $400. To replace what they steal and sell for $40. Without the motor I loose my income. In reality if a guy was down and out I would probably give them $50 vs having to replace motor.
You are scraping the right way but a lot of them are thieves. I have had all my scrap piles stolen by other scrapers. I have had one of by buildings broken into and all the electrical lines pulled out cops just tell you to turn it in to insurance. It a bunch of crap. New wire is almost unaffordable. A short run between two of the buildings was over $400. Thats not all the wires inside that is just to get power back inside.
I think you should not do the scraping videos. It encourages thieves. To steal whatever they can get their hands on.
I personally think you should have to have a license to sell or possess recycling materials. Part of that license should be a background check that disqualifies anyone with drug or theft charges. Preferably jail time for anyone possessing commercial materials without a license.
In your case it would make what you are doing more profitable and legitimate. Contracts with the companies you remove materials from granting you rights to remove and possess, process and sell materials. License should be hard to obtain and hard to keep for for unlawful individuals.

Hey Dude we will watch whatever, tho just remember that alot of people are here for the cars, and will will get all bunched up if you steer away from that too much. We like the car flip content because it was nearly scrapping, you were turning some really ugly cars into peaches, However...Some people don't realise just how much work that is...thats real sweat. Anyways, maybe now the car market has slowed a little its worth a look again. Take care ;D

There's lots of Homespun operations that have custom-built machines to strip wire. All you need is an old boat trailer to get started. Designing, building, and operating machines like that would dovetail nicely with the scrapping content. But please put on a pair of gloves

Mike that motor looks like it could still do some work for your shop which has a much higher value than scrap cash both for the garage and the show. Recycling can mean reusing as in, some new home grown piece of equipment that has been repurposed from your scrap pile. I'm dead certain people would love to watch your ingenuity cobble together tools for your work that seem to laugh at the professional offerings prices. That is indeed the allure of your show, people love watching you create wonderfulness from scrap materials sources on your property. The items used generally have a nice story about where and when you got them and a mention at job's end how well free stuff worked into the build. Your use of scrap makes low budget watchers hopeful that maybe they too could one day own... Scrap is a whole new business where your creative talents would find so little use. It's a numbers game owned by the scale owners. So what's your goal, to become a scale owner?

Love ya man ! Get some cheap gloves, I cringe at the thought of slicing and dicing the hands. I did lotsa recycling before my community decided to criminalize certain non-ferrous metal scrapping due to thieving lowlifes. The community started treating us all like criminals several years ago. Last time I took in a load of stainless they had a cop at the scrapyard running my drivers license and causing a big wait.
They ended up requiring a fee to be a registered scrapper.

And law enforcement wonders why we, John Q. Public loathe them. Instead of actually earning his pay, he goes after someone he thinks will be an easy mark so he can run back to his den and show his boss and go look, I nabbed a dumpster diver, a true menace of society. And I know because of the actions of this dedicated officer of the people, I'm going to sleep better knowing that junk in dumpsters will not be lifted out and repurposed other than to go to the landfill and fill a hole in the earth. This dedicated officer deserves both a raise and promotion to Chief Idiot.

Really enjoyed this video. I do scrap on the side. I like the turn and burn on stuff but on sealed units and motors I take the time to tear them up. An angle grinder with a zip disk and chop saw is all I really need. My neighbor does scrap as a pro and he taught me quite a bit. He also buys all my copper wiring at the scrapyard price. I am putting a load together of clean auto cast and aluminum breakage to take to the big city next week. - Jamie

Dropped away from your channel when you stopped doing car flips. Back now for a few scrapping days to see. This whole notion of government injecting a needle at every point in a person's life and extracting cash (legal crap) is really starting to piss me off.

The way majority of people view scrapping ir terrible. All it is is Recycling that you get paid for. People look down on scrappers but they are keeping material out of landfills. America is behind in what we see as useless and just throw it a away.
