LWT really had found its feet come 1977, being the pure entertainment channel you wanted at the weekend. A far cry from the original pompous, high brow version of 1968 when David Frist (the kiss of death) launched his version of the franchise.
Some early VHS machines had a black & white/colour switch allowing recordings to be in black and white only. This was useful when recording, for example, a black and white film as analogue broadcasts were prone to occasional colour 'streaking' that would have spoilt a black and white film. Most of my VHS tapes from 1979 - 82 were recorded this way.
Very nice rare Muppet Show intro. The interlacing dominance is off by a line during this segment though. Maybe you could put an interlaced version up at Archive etc
It looks like this is a VHS copy of something recorded on the old skip-field formats like CV2000. So there won’t be any interlacing as every second field was skipped, with every first field duplicated. That jittering looks like it came from the original tape, so it was copied to VHS like this.
... and this seems to be a 19.00 junction, i.e. just after Thames handed over to LWT, and a de factor LWT "start-up" junction - the earliest of the type yet to be found! Well done!

Let’s be honest finding any pre-1980 recordings is a holy grail itself and I would expect quality to be patchy at least.
On the contrary, there are plenty of excellent colour 70s off-airs.

This looks like a VHS copy of a Sony CV2000 recording, so it will have been recorded in b/w.
