    What I like about you Seamless, and why I keep watching your videos is... You don't say THIS IS WRONG. THIS is what you have to do, THIS IS THIS etc
    It's nice to know that there is someone else out there who sees things through the same lens as I do.

    I've always had the mentality that I'd "don't be afraid to question what people tell you"
    I watch videos and take in information and I compare it to what I know about the subject through my own experience and I can usually gather what's needed and what's unnecessary, and I encourage anyone with a decent amount of experience to do the same

    Another point I think that should be made is don't. Fucking. Listen. To. Production. Forums. Don't post your shit there, don't ask questions, nothing. They will tear you apart. The EDM production subreddit on Reddit is so fucking toxic to producers. They're what caused me to quit for a few months. Because they literally made fun of me and made me feel like my music was a joke just because I wasn't producing the way other people do. Everyone does everything differently.

      Vescor Of course no one could ever do what he did with the sample, he is such a talented producer, and no one could reproduce Animals so far because the melodic lines are combined in such a tricky way, that only a a true musician could ever get close to finding all the right notes, especially on the drop which is not only arranged in a manner that only a professional would do , but also the sound design is breath taking and not at all a percussion with way too much reverb on it...And the vocals...haaah, the vocals...it's like a quartet of angels came down from heaven and sung ''We're animals" so exquiste that I might even shed a tear in the middle of typing...
      But with all being said, I now realise how tired I am, and I am yet still leaving an irrelevant comment about a true masterpiece which Animals is and will be forever...

    • @theofficialmuffincrc
      @theofficialmuffincrc 9 років тому +4

      Terror404Official While your post was definitely entertaining to read, your point is moot. Of course it's easy to make a song once it's already made.

    • @terror404official5
      @terror404official5 9 років тому

      Vescor Well after Animals we all got invaded with this huge wave of Big Room tracks that mainly need better mixing and mastering(including Animals) that it's not that big of a deal even for begginers in musical production. I have nothing against Big Room, but if you make it at least show a little more interest and try to diversify your songs, I mean in the case of Martin Garrix it's the same formula in every song (you should play 2-3 of his songs at the same time and you'll be surprised to see that for example the build up is the same thing in all the songs, but with other elements...)
      If a song is so easily reproduced does not mean it sucks, maybe the melodies are warm or catchy, but I say that it's important to focus on mixing and mastering.

    Just food for thought: I think when you're staying out and before you get your 'sound' that you're going for its nice to have tips and tricks on what artists do. I know I blew my mother's speakers to her car because I didn't know what EQing was, granted I was young and I still blame it on the fact that it probably shorted out. However it's good to have somewhat of a bases before you try and create things expecting it to sound as great in your iPhone earbuds as it is on other sound systems.

    My favorite occurrences when trying to look up something useful:
    -Making a video about mixing/mastering and managing to record the voice in the most shitty quality as possible
    -"I'm not a professional"
    -"I'm a professional"
    - Demonstrating the mad sound design/engineering skills on a simple bass, drum and one set of harmonics song
    -23 minutes out of 28 self promoting
    -Not teaching the concept just showing how to polish that particular thing he made
    -Giving dumb and limiting advice on music theory

    I would say the only mistakes a producer can make is if they're also doing vocal performance, and they don't take care of their voice. Like, most "mistakes" highlighted in these articles are very subjective. However, you can make a mistake with how you treat your vocal cords (i.e. by not warming up, by not drinking properly), in that it will physically hurt you.
    So, basically, unless the mistake damages you or your equipment, it's only a "mistake" sometimes.

    It's so difficult to name things when your creativity is flowing faster than you can type. You get caught up in just progressing the song. Long as YOU know what's what, dont even worry about it. At least until you reach a point where you're no longer coming up with no ideas. I always wait until I'm finishing up a song before I name shit since it helps with mixing down.

    @v15ualk3ys 9 років тому +1

    I have to agree with the part where it feels like you're not doing well enough if it isn't as difficult. As of the moment, I always manage to make certain synth patches within about 15 minutes and I always find myself feeling conflicted as to whether I should put more into the sound or not due to how much time and difficulty spent in making the sound. I want to put more into it, but I never seem to know what to do and it makes me feel less valuable as a producer when I hear people having to get a particular sound through a huge amount of processes when I manage to make the sound I want through the synth alone.
    It honestly makes me feel like I'm limiting myself, but don't know how to break the barrier to expand on into deeper depths of creativity as a whole. My rule of thumb though is that music is all about experimentation. I would say that there are certain things you may want to avoid to get a better sound (such as over compression), but when someone tells you not to mess with a certain part of a synth, then I would personally go mess with it and see what happens. There's some mistakes that are to be noted but others can be tossed away.

      Electro DGX How to break the barrier to expand on into deeper depths of creativity as a whole: do shit until you eventually figure out how to do the shit you do, but more refined.

    • @TheQuantixXx
      @TheQuantixXx 7 років тому

      Electro DGX hey there i know i'm about a year late but i thought i should tell you... i felt very much the same way you did when you wrote that comment. and i still do sometimes to be honest... there are still sounds i can't even come close to reproduce...
      but one serious recommendation i can give you, is learn about production as if you were to study it. every other day i read books ond acoustics, how sound works, and how audio processing works...
      check out "ask video" especially their Audio Basics Courses, i recommend you watch all of them several times, this will give you more and more of a solid understanding on how all of these things work (delay based effects (doubling,phasing,flanging) reverb, distortion, convolution, and most important of Compression, compression is in my opinion such a hard thing to get a grasp on... yet it is so important.
      these videos will definitely help you alot, i know they cost a lot of money but thats money well spent. worth it waay more than buying a new synth oder preset packs...
      also i wholeheartedly recommend you to buy the courses found on vespers.ca
      their sound design courses, like blitz bass, sound design masterclass or mixing and mastering are very very high level... they are quite expensive.. but every so often you can get 90% or 95% off.... and these courses are fantastic, they are very much in depth, and the trainers at vespers have immense knowledge, and can really explain why they are doing the things they do...
      in sound design masterclass they go over almost all of the available synthesis methods in detail, and they always provide a tutorial on how to achieve specific sounds (yet these are not typical edm sounds like supersaw, minimal pluck) its about how to achieve different timbres with sound design (e.g metallic timbre, fatness, lush, bouncy and stuff like that)
      sometimes its a pain to watch them, because you really have to pay attention to soak up as much knowledge as you can, and most likely you will have to watch them multiple times...
      but i promise that with more knowledge you will find yourself in a way more flexible position concerning sound design, mixing and mastering. you will be able to adapt to certain situations and it will enable creativity again, which i was missing because the way to achieve my ideas was just too hard for me....
      hope this helps
      (oh and pls don't judge my opinion based tracks i uploaded on youtube, they are old and not representative of my current state... i could send you tracks of mine from the last 6 months (which is when i started actively learning about production) as i think the improvement is verymuch noticeable
      kind regards
      lorin

    You mention how "if something sounds good then it's right". Now, what is criteria in which something could be considered bad or good ? Is it just me that my sounds sound weird compared to other professional producers or that really is like that. I mean, i have listened to totally cheap empty beats and that all in my head sounds more right than something i make. I watched your beethoven challenge video and when you first played that section, i was like: Wow, this is really cool. But your expression was like: Mah, that sucked... So, i would like you to comment on that question, thanks :)
    Btw, I have very little practice in fl studio.

    • @NageekNoohac
      @NageekNoohac 9 років тому +6

      bubblegoose321 Honestly bruh, it just takes time and shit tons of tutorials on the interwebs. It also helps to listen to really intensively sound engineered EDM, like Koan Sound or Reso and so many others. It's all about training your ear. I was totally in your boat about a year ago, and I couldn't separate objectively shitty music from good stuff. Of course it's subjective to a degree, but Seamless might forget after being someone involved in the making of music for such a long time that when you first start out, your ear is an infant and you really have to train it to be able to hear if a track is grossly two-dimensional for example, or poorly mixed, or whatever.
      EDIT: Not to come off as if I'm disagreeing with the video, I completely agree. There is nothing a producer can do that's objectively "wrong", as long as their ear is good enough to tell them whether or not what they've done has made the track better. It's tricky though. There could be people out there who just really enjoy shitty EDM, and you're making music for them. Whatever man.

    • @bubblegoose321
      @bubblegoose321 9 років тому +1

      SeamlessR Thank you for that fast reply :). But what i most meant in my question was, is it really possible to have dynamics, sound design that bad that it actually would sound awkward/weird at some point or something like that is only possible because it's something that i created and it differentiates between listening to all other songs that are not made by me, in some kind of sense like: "my own voice sounds worse than anyone else's". I feel dumb for asking the same question but this is something that really creates an issue when i try to make something and i have feeling that it just doesn't sound "professional" enough to be considered as a "normal" track.

    I believe you gotta listen to producers advice in certain cases, I may like a track I'm doing so it may seem like it can be right but then no one else likes it and if you want to be a successful then it's technically wrong. If people love hardcore base and I wanted to make a track with hardcore bases, common sense would follow your tutorials than others you get what I mean?

    Reminds me of how Deadmau5 talks shit on other techniques of making EDM. I agree, it doesn't matter how it's made, it matters how it sounds. And i don't even like most of Deadmau5's music anyway, lol.

      ☤INFiNiTE▼C0NSCi0US☤ deadmau5 talks shit about bullshit.
      Sure, he's pretty biased towards analog music production, and sometimes he even "hates" on MIDI, but he only does that to fuck around.
      Also, he even endorses FL Studio
      twitter.com/deadmau5/status/616012370436034560
      Some of his old tracks were produced in FL Studio.
      Oh, and how someone can't like deadmau5' music is beyond me.

      Jet Lag So basically he's a troll? Lol. - Or he might think his own way of making music is superior (that's the vibe he gave me).
      I definitely think he's a good producer and all, but personally, i'm not really into House beats anymore. If i heard his stuff in the late 90's or early 00's, i would of went apeshit loving it, lol.
      I guess i'm more into beats that are two-step, breaks, or DnB these days.

    Animals vs. Left Behinds is a perfect example of this. Left Behinds used dozens and dozens of layers while Animals only used a handful. Left Behinds - Barely 1 million views... Animals - Almost 600 million views.

      Yes, but left behinds is probably in the top 20 greatest progressive house songs and animals sounds like epic, mystica and many more. Also you can't compare two different genres saying how good each others sales are.

      I'm doing music things for around a year already, some of my friends call me pro, yet I don't think I learned music theory - I just tried random notes and found some that sound nice together. Or maybe this way I learned a scale and some bit of music theory as a whole, without being aware...

      Just use it as you do, you will start to memorize where are buttons that you press regurarly, and over time you will result in pressing things faster. That's all, he uses FL Studio as most of noobs do, he just uses it faster.

    I agree with everything you say but the mocap. Mocap always looks uncanny and wrong. If ratatouille was made with mocap it'd feel so weird, since it's cartoony characters moving EXACTLY like humans, without squash and stretch. Most of the time mocap gets animated over and it's only used as a rough guide.
