Hey, Just rebuilt mine. Rod through the crankcase. I monstered another kohler motor into it. 20 horse off of a roadkill.
Great motor, after I gave it some love.. ALMOST bolted right in. Throttle cables fit.
    Some freelance wiring was needed.
    Belts all lined up.
Free is always a good price. And I LOVE to TINKER...
The loss of the extra 7 horsepower seemed negligible. (from 27 horse to 20 horse)
Your videos helped me put it all together!!! Runs and mows as it should. :)
    Thanks!!!
    Ken

      I have a smaller Craftsman with a blown engine. I've been looking for a 17hp +- .

Dale Hobbs??? How can I ask you a question? I am a 66 yr old crippled widow....my Craftsman 6000’s blades wont turn. I changed the drive belt. There were exposed wires from clutch that I got fixed. They tested it....it made a noise trying. I don’t hear it trying at all when I reinstalled it.....but I am old and deaf.
My Dad worked on planes on a navel carrier in WWII...I inherited that ability.....somewhat.

      Hi April
It sounds like the electric power takeoff is bad.

Dale Hobbs where is that located?....can I replace it? I am getting ready to go out with my multimeter.

      New clutch?
And do you think zero turns are better than tractors? My tractor has a snow plow, tank to pack dirt , wagon, grass catcher.

The power take off is located under the engine. The deck drive belts go around it. Some call it an electric clutch. There is one bolt to mount it to the output shaft of the engine and a bracket that keeps it from spinning, that is on the left side and bolted to the frame. Unplug the wires and it’s out. Check out this video. ua-cam.com/video/BF84GO-17BI/v-deo.html

Zero steer are great for cutting grass. I have both.

Same problem I had. I learned that you pull 4 keepers to take the front plate off, then it slides out easily with no jacking. 2 of the link arm keepers can stay connected, no need to remove those.
My 48" deck doesn't have that arm to take off the belt tension. I wish it did, it's a pain fighting the belt to reconnect the deck.

Tire Ject ?? what is that and where do I get it? I have the exact same mower except I have a 54" deck and I have the original tires and rims looks like whoever did an upgrade. I have a problem with my Right rear and the left from tire with holding air the left front is not as bad as the right rear but that slime junk is not what I want to do. Nope the deck comes out easier from the right side where the grass ejector is. You have to raise the tractors front wheel over that stupid plate in the front of the deck or take that front plate off of the deck. I am so glad I am not the only one that has a problem with getting this deck off from the tractor and yours is a 48" mine is a 54" bigger and heavier.

how will I need to use for this size tire 8 oz or 16 oz? Like the Back tire is so much larger than the front.

The website has a Calculator to figure the dose you put in the rim size, the tire height and width and it tells you the dose. On this mower I think it was 4oz in the front and 8oz in the back. I have the tireject app on my phone so that’s what I use.
