This was such a refreshing video. After having followed unbox therapy for so many years, I have to say that the recent trend in the channel has been one that draws focus on dialogue and drama sometimes more so than the product. This video is reminiscent of the 2014 Unbox Therapy, where the unboxing experience and product itself are complete front and center. Love your channel; keep up the great work!

Actually..... I don't know about you guys but I kinda hate the red button in the middle of the keyboard, same for the thinkpad logo on the back and on the bottom right button. What's the use of the red one near b h and g?
@@extrinity it serves as a quick way to move the cursor. Why reach to the touchpad when you got the red nipple.
Like, imagine you're in your typing position on this keyboard, or find a demo of any laptop with the red nipple. If I were to do it my thumb will be near it. So now I got the thumb to quickly move the cursor to, say, highlight a word.
Overall, it's there for a reason. I know that a lot of people would use this to speed up their productivity.

Seems like there's quite alot of pro Apple peeps here so I'll just say this. Apples desktop machines are usually decently priced for the hardware. Also, I'm not saying that the display isn't worth it, I'm sure 5000 USD is worth it for what you get. But no matter how premium you make a stand, a stand shouldn't cost 1000 USD. Dell makes a 8k monitor that's also aimed at professionals and that thing comes with a stand that looks pretty on par with Apples. Now yes, most pros already have stands and mounts, but the VESA adapters for this is 200 a pop.

I mean when people upgrade their productivity setup it’s usually just the monitor and they would have their custom stands so they don’t need the additional stand. I kind of get their point but yeah 1000$ is kind of too much.

I had a gen 1 lenovo x1 carbon; it opened to flat as well. It was, um, nice, but I never figured out what it was good for. If anyone using a 180 degree openable laptop can enlighten me, I'd be grateful.
@@parkfarb 180 degree is made for exactly one use case: you can sit on a bed with your knees close to your chest and watch some movies or surf the internet using touch screen. It' s better than a tablet because the screen is on the same level with your eyes.

@Unbox Therapy I just started working for a company who purchased a Lenovo laptop for me. It's the T480, however, the similarities between it and the X1 are aplenty. The layout of the keyboard/trackpad are identical and the power button and fingerprint scanner are the same, although rearranged slightly. I think I would have to agree with you that this is the best laptop. I've found that there are MANY trackpad shortcuts that I still haven't figured them all out yet. The T480 I have is a touchscreen which can come in handy sometimes. I'm having too much fun typing on my keyboard. Sorry for the long-winded response.

I bought one of these laptops - the only downside is the smudges on the case - feels like every time you hold it - the case looks like you were just eating fish and chips and handled the laptop. Love the show guys - keep up the good work.

I 100% agree! I am using my Lenovo X1 Carbon since 2016, moving to this model from a MacBook Air and I never looked back. Giving a solid feel and performance regardless if it is used fro work or play not to mention that in 4 years the battery life still gives me a 4h of autonomy.
Your first video on the X1 Carbon got me thinking. I'd been using iMacs for years and always loved them. But had a Thinkpad T440 for work for years. And it runs 3 screens at a time, for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for 4 years and still runs like a beauty.
So sold my iMac, bought a 6th gen X1 Carbon and I could never go back now. It is single-handedly the best laptop out there.

Ten years ago I had a SL500 ThinkPad, it was glossy black on the top. A proper fingerprint magnet, but it looked like nothing in 2009. I loved that thing so much..

Very interesting. Me too my number 1 priority is the keyboard, and second priority is lightness. I keep carrying around an old Dell Latitude E6330 because of the amazing keyboard, but it is anything but light. If the keyboard on this superlight Lenovo is as good as you say it is, then I am in for my next laptop.

The company I work for purchased 10,000 of these along with surfaces. And I got assigned the x1 carbon. It gets amazing battery life and is buttery fast! I work as a active directory engineer and tier 2 engineer for a deployment. So I use multiple workspaces and have tons of things open. I almost always forget to shut it down and the standby can last days. The keyboard is fantastic nice tactile feel. The USB c charging is unbelievably fast.

Current MacBook Pro user. However the best built laptop I have ever owned was an IBM Thinkpad (before Levono days). It’s about 23 years old and still works!

"The absolute best" has arrived, that is of course until the next "absolute best" laptop arrives about 2 weeks later :)
Back in early 2000’s, in my high school, it was mandatory for each student to have its own laptop and bring it to class.
With 1000’s of students you saw every brand and type of laptop, mostly Compaq, Toshiba, Acer & Thinkpad.
It still impresses me to this day how Thinkpads were the only ones that could stood the abuse of teenagers.
Thinkpads have been the best like forever.

I wish companies would return from pretty-and-good-selling to practical keyboard layouts.
Toshiba HAD the best keyboard layout ever, for example A660 keyboard. It is the most similar compact version to the standard keyboard layout:
- The arrows are separated from the rest of the keys and you can "feel" where they are under the fingers
- Delete is right above the backspace and I can "feel" where it is because it is separated from the notepad with a tiny gap.
- Existing menu button (next to the right ctrl), I use it extensively
- The CTRL key is in the lower left corner and not the FN key
- IMHO best layout ever!

I've bought the 6th x1 carbon 16GB+512GB+1080p+touch after your previous review, I've been using it for several months now and this machine is just perfect. I was concerned about thermals before the purchase, but they're ok. I use it mostly for frontend coding and temperature of cores almost always stays around 45-49 celsium. The deal breaker is the weight, mac book pro 13 inch is so heavy in comparison. And the keyboard travel. And the trackpoint. And the touch screen works perfect with 180 degrees unfold.
Yes, it has some disadvantages. First, the finger scanner is just a mess, it always fails to recognize the finger and after 3 tries you have to input a pin. The second is that when the laptop is closed the area from the back of it between the hinges is a little bit floppy. When you hold it in you hand you can feel that it bends a little down to keyboard. The third is brightness, it could be a little brighter.
I still have 2011 ThinkPad, still it's keyboard is better than any modern laptop

Got this laptop with a $2800 spec earlier this year for 1/3 of the price. A guy sold it to me completely new, sealed in the box and with at 3-year extended accident warranty and on-site repair. I was and still am in shock. This is the best piece of equipment I have ever owned!
