হৃদয় পিঞ্জরে বসে ও পাখি “Hridoyo Pinjore Boshe” (Sitting in the cage of my heart) by the poet Deen Khyapa.
This is a pure devotional song belonging to the group of songs titled Mono Shikha, which could be translated as “Conversation with the Self”.
The song translates as follow:
“Sitting in the cage of my heart
Oh Bird ! please sing the song of enchanting name of Radha and Krishna
Oh Bird ! you sing that name I listen
I chant that name but you don’t listen.
The days you were in your mother’s womb
In those days you chanted that name,
But you forgot with time
Even by chance you did not take the name of Krishna.
Sing the name with all your devotion
The karma of your animal birth
Will go away,
Your humaneness will enter
Your body being
Your inherited qualities will fade and you will lack nothing.
The sixteen names composed
In thirty-two letters
If you take away twenty-eight letters
See my heart Radha and Krishna is made of four letters.
The sacred name of ‘Hari’ is
Chanted by seekers
Not known by worldly beings.
Deen Khyapa says
With great regret in his heart
To whom shall I sing this name of Hari?
And who listens?
The sorrow of Deen Khyapa’s heart remained within
I find many loved ones but not the beloved.”

Around this traditional bāul song, Gilles Monfort sang some phrases of ālāp in rāg Bhairavī, in the Ḍāgarvānī style of dhrupad singing.
