My absolute favorite gel is the Bioterra gel, which you turned me on to. I love how you don't review every product under the sun, but do give quick, honest reviews of the ones you like. I may have to give these a try, but stick to Bioterra for my gel.
Love the reviews! this one is way too expensive for me though. Could you review the curltalk line? they have new products in the line now :) now those I can afford and they have that rice protein in them too.
Great review and loved your results. I bought the shampoo and conditioner a few months ago. They get my hair frizzy with poor definition and will not repurchase.
Thanks for the review. Nice to hear about a curl creme that you really like... and thanks for mentioning fragrance. I don't always mind a little fragrance during the day but, always wonder how anyone can go to bed with that in their hair. I've actually thought about cutting it short in order to wash it at night. Thanks for all you give us.
Hey Susie! I was wondering if you could review Curl Shoppe? It is a woman owned small business based out of Toronto, Canada. Very curious to see how there products work but, if I purchase one more curly hair product without using up some of my collection first, my husband might loose it 😂. They also seem pretty affordable, more so then Briogeo. Thank you Susie😊
The nice thing about Briogeo is they also have 33.8oz bottles of that shampoo and conditioner for $58 USD, insanely cheaper if you need bulk size. It doesn't help with the styling products but the conditioner issue is super real.
Good point about checking for bulk. I was on Amazon looking for a fantastic shampoo (Shikai daily) that I have trouble finding here these days, and happened to stumble across a huge jug of it, at a fraction of the cost compared to by the bottle..
Wowee your hair looks AMAZING. Ps for everyone saying this is expensive, in australia all the beautiful products you get aren’t available here or are super expensive so this is the norm price for me
Purchased the curl cream and gel to try from this line after watching your video. I also 500% will repurchase the cream! My hair looks amazing! Finally found a replacement for diva curl. Thanks for all your awesome content! I find your hair videos super useful as we seem to have similar hair. Keep up the good work and stay safe! 😄
Hi Susie, good review, not too long. I love the color of your hair. In my opinion, these products are overpriced. I appreciate the natural ingredients and all, but the conditioner would not last very long. Sometimes too much scent leads to problems in people. Ive been watching your reviews for awhile. I think your curls look too soft if you know what I mean. They will probably fluff up and out by next day! Ive seen you get better results. I purchased the gel from Sally Beauty you suggested. Biotera and I like it.
Hey new viewer we here. I'm just getting back into the cg method and I'm grateful to find your channel because you have a really similar curl pattern to mine (I think I have a bit less hair than you though). Also my fiance is from Cape Breton and it's cool to notice the similar ways you says things. If you haven't already made a video about it can you please talk about getting curls cut properly (like how to describe what you want and what you look for in a stylist) ☺️
I have a video called (my best curly haircut) I am very very specific about what I ask for. I like my hair cut very bluntly while wet & not too many layers. Manes by Mel has an amazing hair cut video too!
I am thankful you are finding time to share your curly experience while being a nurse in this crazy time! Will you please tell me what lipstick you are wearing in this video?
Great information from this video and others of yours. I am confused. Which kind of gel have you found over time keeps the frizzes at bay over days post-washday....since this was best washday ever...LA Looks hard or another brand? I live in a very humid climate. Thanks!
I've tried this line, and I agree with Susie. The gel did not have a very strong hold. Though my hair and I generally liked it, it's not a 'must have' due to the price.
I got a small sample from Sephora!! I just started CGM this week and your videos have been very helpful. Week one and I have tons of frizz but I'm sticking with it. Have you ever used any of the Blueberry Bliss products? Was thinking of trying the Deep Conditioner.
I am using the Briogeo “Be Kind” collections - I love them! The apple line is a bit lighter and the banana line is more moisturizing. I recommend them! I didn’t like the Briogeo gel though, I will stick with Biotera 😊
Thank you for the heads up about the fragrance, that's helpful to know. My skin is sensitive to fragrance and even the run-off from hair products can cause a rash if it's strong, so will have to give this line a miss. Their oat + aloe range is good, any recommendations of fragrance-free or low-fragrance masks or styling products to complement this with would be much appreciated ✨ Thank you for saving me some money and a lot of itching!
My heart goes out to you all in N.S. I hope you and your family are all safe. May you find strength in this difficult time ❤️❤️ sending lots of love from your neighbours in N.B. 🇨🇦
I have hair very similar to yours but unfortunately, Briogeo left me with a frizz halo and very little hold. :( The ends look healthy at least. Also, do you use the curl charisma conditioner as a co-wash? How'd that go?
I'm curious if you've tried any Live Clean products? Made in Canada; cruelty-free; most, if not all their products are vegan. Silicon, sulphate, and paraben-free. I haven't looked into whether they make only shampoo and conditioner or other styling products (although as an aside, I do know they make a non-petroleum jelly that is part of their baby care line). It's a drugstore brand and I just love the way it smells and makes my hair feel. I've used it for many years.
Live clean argan oil conditioner is the best conditioner i have ever used, and i am infinitely sad that I can’t easily buy it anywhere now that I live in Germany
Hey Susie! I’m absolutely in love with this product line, it’s the best one I’ve tried so far. At first I also didn’t like the gel but after some experiments it became my absolute favorite of all gels I’ve tried. For me the key is to use A LOT of it, approximately twice more than the other gels I use. In that case, the hold is much better but it still doesn’t weight my curls down. Maybe it’ll work for you too:)
Hey Susie I've been struggling with my hair for the longest time And I sort of have the routine down but it's far from perfect I use the cantu curling cream and get a temporary definition at my ends But my roots remain flat And there's a lack of volume Should I get a mousse or the gel which you use? Unfortunately with the lockdown I can't really get products But I would love your advice Because no one in my family has curly hair
susie said in a video I recently watched that if your roots are flat, it means there is hair damage. You might have to get a hair cut or put effort to try and repair the ends. It was a video where she talks about hair porosity, curl types etc.
If it makes you feel better, I also have not been happy with my hair recently. I like the shea moisture milk (coconut & hibiscus line) more than the cream from cantu. Maybe try that? I have not used it recently as I ran out and maybe that's why my hair has been such a mess. Best gel IMO is still the one from cantu
Honestly guys, I've tried this too. I found identical results to the shea moisture curl smoothie. However, when i used to get dream curls with the curl smoothie it no longer works for my hair, hate when that happens. then the deva thing happened, and can no longer use my beloved believe in.
I just spent 67 euros on the whole line. Damn you Susie and your beautiful hair (kidding of course). 😁 I kind of hope I hate it because Shea Moisture is much cheaper.
I just tried it. Not a fan. The conditioner and shampoo are not CGM approved, the gel does not hold and is basically just water. The only product I might like and repurchase is the cream/leave in conditioner. My curls looked okayish after washing but a few hours later, it looked like a dry and frizzy mess and the curls were gone. Update: Cream leave in is the bomb, the other ones are not good. Tried them separately and the only one that gave me (2c curls) and my son (3c curls) great results was the cream leave in. Will keep using that one.
I bought all I needed. I got my hair cut. I tried it and as I suspected, it didn't work. My hair looks like a bad 80s perm. I have very few curl clumps and they're all practicing social distancing from each other, interspersed with frizz. I'm so disappointed 😔 I've kept at it but it hasn't gotten any better.
Chelsea Pickslay Hi Chelsea, my husband hates the strong smell of most shampoos/ conditioner so I have tried so many! I have found one that Walmart makes called Renpure they have no sulphate , parebens etc etc. and are pretty cost effective relatively to most. they have two conditiones one is a vitamin E and the other is almond milk/ shea . Try both the vitamin E works better for my hair as it is very dry and fine . If you want another option the deva curl has the ones with yellow bottle that are lighter and less frangrance. But they are of course $$
what gel does work for you? i have found every curly/wavy product i need after a year of experimenting but I still haven't liked any gels I have tried including DivaCurl
Do you have any tips or advice on how to get my curls back after a smoothing “keratin” treatment back in December. My hair was very curly and I did the keratin to help grow out the worse haircut of my life. Now, it’s April and all the curly hair products or routines I try are still not helping. My curls are now waves and barely waves with no definition. It does not look good and have to resort still to blowing out. I’m hoping with time this will change. Do you have any tips or advice??? Thanks,
Hi Ms. Adriana... Your hairstory is EXACTLY like mine...I mean down to the month of when I got my Brazilian Blowout (keratin treatment not the permanent kind) in December 2019... I also was having a difficult time getting my curls back...so..this is what I did...just some info about my hair...I have 3a/b curl pattern, fine but a lot of it and high porosity dry hair (I loose moisture very quickly).. What you have to do is strip the keratin out of the hair so this process will be drying but you would incorporate deep conditioner or acv/water rinse to balance the hair... I did A LOT of washing my hair with baking soda mixed with water for like 4 days straight...then the other days...I did salt scrubbing ( I used Himalayan pink salt) mixed with a sulfate shampoo ... I did this for at least 3 weeks then tapered it down to 3-4x's a week ... I absolutely used no heat/curling method of any type just air dry.. My curls are now coming back so I drastically cut down on the baking soda (I do it once a week now I actually like it and surprisingly softens the hair).. Of course every hair is different so you will be able to gauge on how many times to wash your hair but remember you want a sulfate shampoo or baking soda to strip the keratin off your strands.. To style my hair I use and love Cantu curl activator cream while my hair is soaking wet and follow up with the Cantu mousse.. Sorry this is so long but I hope this helps you...let me know if you have any questions/concerns :)
I forgot to add that I'm protein sensitive (to much of it and my hair gets extremely dry, straw like feeling, yuck!) and I'm growing out a very short haircut almost to a ear length Bob.....just be patient and do not use any heat ...heat will change the structure of your curl pattern (of what you have left) and can permanently loosen the curl..:)
CaLiFoRniA Dreamin Hi there! Can’t thank you enough for your help and advice. I’ll try and get some backing soda today. How much do you use and with what portion of water. Do you mix the baking soda & water into the shampoo? I too have fine hair and my curl was 3a/b. I do have sulfate shampoo and conditioner I can use as well. What is an ACV / water rinse? My only problem will be not using heat on my hair because air dried I will not look at all attractive. I’ll try maybe a pony tail or twist. I’m so glad we have similar stories. Only thing is mine was a more sever treatment. I think Brazilian Blowout is not as long lasting as Cezanne Smoothing - which is what I got in Dec. Luckily my hair is growing and now shoulder length BUT THAT TOOK 2 years of various cuts and tears. Now I use want to be a curly again more than anything. I would rather not wash my hair that often.....I have been washing like every 7 days and I thought it helped with the growth. Thank you for replying to me. I don’t think a lot a people know what it is like and every Curly You tuber never replies probably because they can’t speak from personal experience.
@@adrianadelia6957 get a deep Tupperware (plastic is fine) put in 2cups of baking soda add 1/2cup of water...see what the consistency is...I like it a bit thick not to liquidy but it's your preference.. ACV= Apple Cider Vinegar 2 tbsp. ACV mixed with 2-3 cups of water...put it in a hair coloring bottle or something like that with a nozzle for easy distribution...leave it in for 5 minutes after you shampoo and rinse with the baking soda/or sulfate shampoo..this also is a preference of how much water and ACV mixture...you will figure it out once u mess with your hair;) As for blow drying your hair...I know it's easier just to do it...but I cannot stress how extreme heating/flat ironing will change your curl pattern..trust me if u want your curls back you r going to have to go through that "ugly" phase...I know I went through it..lol You have to shampoo more often to get that Keratin off the hair strands believe me I used to only cowash once or twice a week...but I wanted that Keratin off so I had to shampoo way more often and use sulfate /baking soda... Have u tried to wet plop your hair after product were in ?
Sending Nova Scotia lots of love and prayers after the horrible tragedy that took place. Hope you and you family are well. From Ontario Canada!! Love your channel!!
I wonder if you were somebody else here can answer this: I know it's easy to start obsessing about CGM and the steps and the products and I'm trying not to do that 😀 However, I was curious - I haven't been into it long and I've finally gotten into the routine. This morning when I woke up my hair looked amazing (I'm a wavy with a few borderline curls). I would have done the refresh, but I just like the way it looked, so I didn't. I was wondering if that's a bad idea to do that over the long run... Is the refresh part of maintaining the moisture (which I know I really needed, but you wouldn't know it today! 😍)
I always just go with what feels good for me, so if your hair is looking good and feeling good, I wouldn't refresh at all. I just need it on day 3 because I tend to lose some of the curlpattern.. (Not an expert tho)
Just an observation. I wonder if it's specifically the conditioner itself that gave you such good results or really a change in technique. I found with my hair when I have lightened up on the conditioner I get the same result little less defined more volume but still very pretty. You probably still want to modify to have the style and hold products you want to have. But in general I have preferred using less conditioner and sometimes skipping conditioner in a wash all together has helped me have really good wash days ( opting instead to add moisture in with my stylers such as a leave-in or cream).
Not a silicone. But it’s water insoluble, which is why it’s not cg. It is highly volatile though, so I don’t know how much of it stays in the hair and how much evaporates.. Lots of CG-peeps used Briogeo’s Don’t despair, repair mask (including myself) for like a year before anyone pointed out that it had isododecane in it. No one seemed to have had a problem with it. I wouldn’t worry too much about it if it’s in a low concentration.
I love this brand but if they were cheaper I think a lot more people would go buy them as you do need to use more product because you have curly hair and it ends up being quite costly if you constantly having to repurchase I haven't found any other brand so I'm just sticking with them until I found a brand that is good quality of good ingredients and cheaper until then it briogeo for me...
I ordered these and the smell was so strong that I opened the box, couldn’t handle the smell and had to put the box of products in my laundry room until I could mail them back. Note: I am sensitive to fragrance and prefer little or better yet, no fragrance.
I'm using the jessiecurl no added fragrance line as I have eczema and don't do well with heavily fragranced haircare. That's my main gripe with curly products tbh.
Loraine Mcgillivray Yes, Jessicurl products are definitely good and I have all of them. I’m also using Innersense and the fragrance is very light. The exceptions are the mousse and the leave-in. I can tolerate the leave-in if I use a small amount, but the mousse fragrance hangs around.
I forgot to add-did you have eczema before you started CGM? I ask because when I started my curly journey, my scalp was very itchy and developed scabby sores. I thought it was eczema but figured out it was caused by propylene glycol.
@@pamelafitzpatrick9048 I've had eczema since I was a child. My initial purchases for the cgm were shea moisture and cantu (as probably many people's are). The cantu especially caused issues as many of those were custrds, gels and cream (leave on products). I use fragrance free skincare, but can tolerate a small amount of scent in my hair normally. My neck really broke out with the air drying ie wet product heavy hair in prolonged contact with my neck and shoulders as I have long hair Thanks for the recommendation I will look at innersense.
Your hair looks much better (more India Batson) with Briogeo than with the Bioterra. The Bioterra gives you a wet look, not as flattering in my opinion. :)

ACV= Apple Cider Vinegar
2 tbsp. ACV mixed with 2-3 cups of water...put it in a hair coloring bottle or something like that with a nozzle for easy distribution...leave it in for 5 minutes after you shampoo and rinse with the baking soda/or sulfate shampoo..this also is a preference of how much water and ACV mixture...you will figure it out once u mess with your hair;)
As for blow drying your hair...I know it's easier just to do it...but I cannot stress how extreme heating/flat ironing will change your curl pattern..trust me if u want your curls back you r going to have to go through that "ugly" phase...I know I went through it..lol
You have to shampoo more often to get that Keratin off the hair strands believe me I used to only cowash once or twice a week...but I wanted that Keratin off so I had to shampoo way more often and use sulfate /baking soda...
Have u tried to wet plop your hair after product were in ?
Sending Nova Scotia lots of love and prayers after the horrible tragedy that took place. Hope you and you family are well. From Ontario Canada!! Love your channel!!
How are you doing? Concerned about Nova Scotia
WARNING!! The conditioner DOES have a SILICONE in it, Isododecane, lower down on the list... It is the same with their deep hair conditoner... FYI!!
Very nice curls
Heard the news out of Nova Scotia, hope you are okay.
Does this line have protein in it?
@courney M I've heard the treatment from this brand is packed with protein.
It clearly shows when she holds up each product to the camera...
Yes !
Can’t wait to try this after this stupid lockdown is over and/if I’m back to work.
Vegan and cruelty-free 😻
Wow your hair is very curly here
Your hair looks much better (more India Batson) with Briogeo than with the Bioterra. The Bioterra gives you a wet look, not as flattering in my opinion. :)
The conditioner and shampoo ingredients are not CGM approved. Just researched them. 😑
I hate my curly hair. I don't know how to handle my emotion.
