To get the total feel of the 50mm lens you should've done more MEDIUM and Close ups.

If you want a few creative M43 lenses for the BMPCC 4K
the following two lenses are very affordable and unique.
- Astrhori 50mm f/1.4 tilt lens.
- 7Artisans 35mm f/0.95 lens.
I would recommend getting a 17mm or 17.5mm MFT lens for a look close to full frame 35mm.

I’d like to have seen the equivalent 50mm on your Canon Zoom lens. With a speedbooster, the 1.8 is faster too, 1.4 or 1.2? Be interested to know what difference the Viltrox makes too, if it’s about x.71 the nifty 50 will be about 70mm. Great to see the beach footage, would also be useful to show the same set up for a talking head, as know doubt it would have super shallow depth of field. Just ideas Tom...there’s always another video to make!! Best, Adam

Im not sure if this is a dumb question lol... but, why did you use an adapter if the lens mount on the bmpcc is already an EF mount, im confused? Do I need to buy an adapter aswell?

Your 50mm lens not focusing on your Blackmagic camera could be due to a few reasons, especially if you’re using an adapter that is mechanical (non-electronic) with an electronic Canon lens. Here’s a breakdown of the potential issues:
Lack of Electronic Communication:
• Autofocus Dependency: Since your lens is electronic, it relies on communication with the camera body for functions like autofocus and aperture control. A mechanical adapter doesn’t support this electronic communication, which means the camera can’t control the lens’s focus or aperture.
• Manual Focus: Without electronic communication, you’ll have to focus manually. If your lens doesn’t have a manual focus ring, or if the manual focus isn’t working correctly, that could explain why you can’t get the lens to focus.

Shreekara Bhat If you’re particularly budget conscious, maybe check out the Viltrox speedbooster as opposed to the Metabones? It’s still what I use and it’s great. Also yes, this is the perfect choice for a budget lens for the BMPCC4K!

There’s hardly any autofocus on the BMPCC
The Canon 50MM comes two ways...with plastic elements, the one you have based on the price and a more expensive one with glass elements.

I'm having this problem with bm4k + viltrox EF-M2 II + canon 50mm. It doesnt focus at all. Even manual. Did anyone have this problem?

@@jim.t9481 Jim! At the end, I just didin't "forced" de lens until it click. I mean, I was too carefull, so it didin't fit right. hahaha But I use the viltrox EF-M2 II as a booter by the way. Now, everything works well!

These cams don’t autofocus really. Manual only!
Q: Isn't a 50mm on the bmpcc4k (1.89 crop factor ) more like 94mm equivalent? How does the viltrox affect the focal length? Great looking footage btw- how did you keep the camera so still(ie no shaking!)? ps Title should specify "BMPCC 4K"

Im not sure but i think the Viltrox is like the metabones speedbooster and emulates “full frame”.
50mm will always be 50mm just “zoomed” if you go with wider lens to emmulate 50mm original distance is going to distort faces and look different
Yup! You’re totally right. Whenever people say it’s just like a 50mm lens, that’s really far from true. It’s more like the field of view and almost everything else remains consistent.
By far not agree.. by far.
But ok. You try. Much better any other vintage glass on same focal length. And a 50mm in apsc is like an 85, not to be The ONE. For me the one is my 16mm f2 in the Speedbooster, you can do almost everything and remove from speedbooster to no speedbooster and you get a 32mm f2.

One question that bugs me! Why are you mounting an EF Lens on an adapter to mount it on a camera that supports EF originally? Do you have a different mount on the camera or am I missing something? Thanks!
The BMPCC 4K is a MFT Mount not an EF :)

Yes either a Viltrox or Metabones speedbooster, or normal EF adapter.
The BMPCC6K won’t require any additional adapter.

It's crappy.. u never use 1.8apature ..
For the people really considering this setup, I don't know if my lens would work with the Viltrox adapter, I own a Metabones Speedbooster but WHATEVER YOU DO. DON'T be a cheap bastard like me and buy the Youngnuo 50mm f1.8. Buy the original Canon 50mm cause, as soon as you connect that chinese piece of glass, Iris control just goes "HAHA SEE YA SUCKER!!!" And i can't even get an Iris reading. So unless you are ok with being stuck with a 1.4 aperture (1.8 if you don't have the boost) or sticking the lens to another camera to control the iris, just spend a few more bucks on the original Canon. Sharing my mistake as a public service announcement haha
