  • Finding and get closer to birds is one of the most challenging aspects of bird photography (and reason for frustration).
Personally, I apply a mix of the approaching strategies, depending on the location and bird species I am working with - although I favour the passive one.
Let me know in the comments which strategy you use the more often!

Hello, Chiara! I usually shoot in urban environment: local park, or from my balcony, or the local beach promenade. I end up using a mix, moving closer when searching for them, and sometimes hiding and waiting behind some foliage, or walking in the shadows to become less visible. Discrete clothing, but no real camouflage.

I was standing still trying to adjust settings for a low light situation near a rock pool. A wood pigeon flew down to the ground in front of me & took a few seconds to realise I was there. Unfortunately the pics weren't great.
I don't wear camouflage. I walk in places I know I will see birds. Then stay pretty still or move slowly. Birds come closer when know I am not bothering them. Then I walk to another spot.

trick is not to stop walking when you approach some birds, they fine when you walking or running past them but as soon as you stop they get spooked and fly away, maybe they cant see you if you not moving and know you were there
