Garden hose rubber washers may also work. Don't put too many in, otherwise it may cause a small dent on the top of the hatch when you slam the hatch down too hard.
Currently, my 350z engine is blown, so that means it is build time! Newer videos are being edited and dropping soon. Thanks everyone for helping me get to 2,000+ subscribers!
I’ve had my ‘05 Z for 15 years. You are definitely on point with those 5 replacements. Only one I haven’t had issues with has been the gauges. The one thing that has been an issue for YEARS and I’ve ignored has been the trunk release. Thanks for that tip as I will definitely take care of that nagging area. My wife 2nd biggest complaint next to being too low. Thanks Bro
You only need to replace the OEM popper with z1 version. That fixes the issue right away under 5 minutes and only half cost of the OEM ones which will stop working after few years
You forgot the door handles will wear out too ! The mechanisms over time will break inside. A good hack remedy for the 350 Z is to insert the ignition key and, turn it to the left to lower the windows then, to the right to bring them back up.
Engine blew up, so I'm currently building a electric 350z that also will be most technology advanced 350z with crazy torque. Check out my other videos.
There's a window reset button for that issue. Motor obviously isn't broken or going out, just needs reset. Speedometer cluster is easy to remove, check the pigtail connector on the back to make sure it isn't loose.
Jesse M I'm pretty sure it does not eve require removing anything big. I was at work when my brother and dad decided to fix mine (I have a 2003 model) my brother described it as a sticker he peeled back and found the button to hold for the reset. I would have done it myself but again I was at work, I would suggest searching it, shouldn't be too hard to find PS the window acts like this when the car's battery dies or is disconnected, or when the motor really is starting to go bad
ua-cam.com/video/71YInJ7WQFs/v-deo.html .I follow this steps and fix my pas. window. It did not work first time, but after several attempts it finally fixed. Don't need new motor and it' FREE
3 out of the 5 have gone bad on mine haha. The trunk springs, the hatch supports, and the splash guard underneath. So far I've never had a window motor, gauge, door handle, or camshaft position sensor go out on me. Currently 183k miles on my 03 350z; it still runs smooth and strong.
this has gotta be one of the best vidoes ive seen on youtube in a long time haha. I cant pick out specifically why but the video was just great and fun to watch. Usually vidoes with a subject like this make me want to fall asllep.
Be careful what you replace the trunk struts with if they fail and cause the lid to drop. A lot of aftermarket trunk struts do not fit properly and when you close that rear deck, it won't sit down properly. It will close, but the front part will sit up about 1/4" higher then it should. I also put an Aluminum under tray on both my 350Z and my Infiniti Q60S. The one I put on has a great 12" x 12" port that drops so I can change the oil and filter without having to remove anymore then two screws. As for the engine, the water pump should be changed around 100K and there is a good chance if you live in a warm place like Florida, your AC pump will start becoming noisy at about 125K miles. Also the timing chain tensioner will start to wear causing an increase in that start up timing chain rattle. A short rattle is normal. But a loud slapping sound for several seconds spells impending failure. Another issue I see are the cooling fans at the radiator getting slow. This usually shows up first as an issue with the AC. The AC will stop blowing cool air when you are idling and stopped. When things get real bad, the engine will start to over heat when you are stopped and idling. Last, at around 100 - 120K you will need a clutch. Maybe sooner if you are a boy racer and ride the clutch a lot. Put the car into 6th at around 40 mph then give it full throttle. If the clutch slips you need to replace it.
1) Window motors do go bad often on the 350z but when the window goes back down half way like that, the regulator just needs to be reset. Last week I replaced the passenger side window motor in my car and had to reset the regulator on the driver's side. My windows work great (for now). 2) The plastic sun visor clips/holders are super weak and will break constantly. I inherited my 350z and I have broken 3 clips so far just using the visor infrequently. Nissan knows that the plastic is defective but refuses to fix the problem. 3) The camshaft/crankshaft sensors will go out without warning. 4) If you have a convertible, then you know about the issues with the motors that open and close the ragtop. Consider yourself lucky if you don't have a convertible. The thing that I really like about the 350z is that it's a lot easier to work on than I thought it would be. So far, I haven't had to take the car to a mechanic. I was able to fix everything myself without too much difficulty. So far, I have replaced a window motor, all four brakes/rotors, an ignition coil pack, camshaft and crankshaft sensors, and the radiator cooling fan assembly. I also replaced the convertible top but that took me over 7 hours in the blistering sun so it was definitely a chore to complete. My car is a 2004, so it's getting old, but it only has 59K miles on it.
That's funny, my 350z has all the exact same things broken (2003 Touring Edition). I also have a faulty Camshaft Sensor which turned my Z off when I was shifting gears and exiting the freeway. Could have been really bad!
03 Z Owner here and I absolutely love mines despite the issues lol. Reading the comments I am now aware of the oil pressure sensor. She's down now due to mods. Right now my main issue is getting her to turn over.
hatch went before the driver window at 170,000 motor, shield went at 125,000, cause when they change the oil at Nissan they take of and the bolts broke. you are right things will go. I have owned a 280z 1979, 1986 300z, 1991 300z and the 350z. these are great cars and the 350 has held up the best thanks to technology
Windows not going fully up can indicate the weatherstripping is out of place and not allowing the window to go where it’s supposed to so it goes back down.
hey bro nice vid. I had the same problem with my window. once it was all the way up would roll down by itself or roll down when you closed the door. The regulator is operated by resistance so when you unplug the battery the windows lose the programing. what you do is take the door panel off and theres a rubber button that you have to press as you follow a sequence with the window switches. I fixed mine and didnt pay a dime on new motors.
If window rolls up all the way then drops back down- reset switch. If motor struggles to raise window or won't at all replace motor followed by reset switch.
Since I bought my 2006 Roadster I've had the Radiator Fan go out, replaced with an aftermarket high performance one, Both door handles broke, Trunk open button stopped working, Seat belt airbag sensor went bad, and last but not least the Top wouldn't go all the way down- Replaced straps and fixed it, next thing I knew the back window was starting to separate from top.
This list can also include door latches, interior paint, 1qt. of oil every 1k miles on 06', evap. emission vapor vent tube, etc. On the positive note Carlos Ghosn CEO of Nissan/Renault did earn $100 million with these cost cuts.
I can't believe this video. Everything that he said happened to my son's 350 Z, in that same order, except for the gauge sticking. So now we will be watching out for that. This certainly means that there was a problem with quality control by Nissan during the planning stages. We took his car to the dealer and it cost $350 for to fix the driver-side window, $200 for the plastic piece in the front, and another $300 to fix the trunk struts.
r g all this could have been fixed under $300, but would have taken probably 4-6 hours. I recommend buying a second driveshaft from eBay or pull apart. You’ll thank me later
Everything but the undertray and guages are currently broken on my dads 03. Has both trunk problems and we had to replace the window motor on both sides. Also the clutch switch is sketchy and u might have to press in the clutch extra hard for the car to start
That first example is not a broken window motor. Those motor have an anti pinch feature in them so if someone were to stick their arm out the window the window would shoot down. Thats why its called anti pinch. How you fix that is take the door apart, take the motor off the regulator and reconnect the switch to the motor. Hold the window switch up for 10 seconds and let go of the switch. Put the window back together and its fixed. Thats how i fixed mine.
I see a lot of people say door handles.. I currently have 88k on my 03 and have yet to have a single issue with my door handles. my time must be coming soon? I've replaced the window motor driver side, and have a sticky oil pressure gauge, but that's not a big deal to me. I had the dreaded 3rd n 5th gear grind at 60k miles, installed a cd009 trans and it's been perfect since.
Door handles Radiator fan motors (don't buy the shroud,is just plastic, motors are cheaper on amazon) Bose subwoofer Door A/C vents Plastic liners everywhere
Great video! Love my Z. I have had two Z's and they are great sport cars for the money and lots of fun to drive. I now have a 2007 convertible. The driver's door latch broke (common issue) and the straps that pull the top down got weak and had to be replaced. Other than that, a great ride. 🙂
Ever get that digital display in? I'm curious to see what that would look like, I kinda want to do that to my z but I wanna see how it looks before I go spending money.
Accurate....I had everything thing you listed break on mine except mine was the fuel guage. And the storage compartment above the radio broke on mine too lol
Bruh I'm sitting here watching this at 3am cause I'm getting a 350z and when he said "your just in here and the trunk hits you like BAHHH" shit had me weak asf 😂💀💀
Nice vid boss, have had my 350z (2004) for about 2 months now and the only thing I’ve noticed is the service engine light comes on every few weeks. I just take it to a local autopart store and get code checked out and it’s nothing so I have them clear it. Wondering if you have heard of this occurring
Makes you wonder why my 1995 mint condition Escort Hatchback still has original hatch struts that are as potent now as when the car was purchased. 23 yrs ago !! Ended up here after noticing 2005 Z Track nearby for 8,900. Three owners. 62,000 miles. Automatic. 3,000 less than avg cost of 12,000. If the talk about knock sensors is factual this is another car to AVOID. It won't pass emission inspection with a knock sensor problem.
It's pretty good for a sports car. Sports cars aren't built to last because the people buying them new tend to replace them every few years with a newer model. Still annoying if you buy used but not as bad as a jaguar for example.
Not only for a sports car. It was in some top charts of Reliability in England i thought i read it somewhere. I for one had only window motor problem. I fixed it for 10 dollar. Replaced the brushes. :) With RC motor brushes. Also my subwoofer & cd player stopped working.(Saw on the internet how to fix it.. going to do so soon) It's now from 2004 and if i look at the maintenance of new untill 69k kilometers. There where no problems. Im the 3th owner... and i drove most of it. Now at 185k kilometers and never had any problems. Just regular wear and tear. Tires, brakes, engine belts. One time had to do spark plugs just following maintenance. Great car if you don't mind it being a 2 seater and don't need the space. Extremely undervalued car in my opinion. I was looking for a Honda S2000 first... but was too expensive to buy because of it's name.
How about the years ( my 2007) that have some crappy black rubber coating on door handles, radio, various leather interior parts...that scraps off with you finger nail! I’ve had to strip and paint so much of my interior
On convertables the 5th motor bow will go out but getting better quality & longer lasting ones will fix it to oem ones dont last very long but on my roadster i had both outside door handles break & passenger side needs to be still replaced & undershroud is broken but that z1 aluminum undershroud looks like a good buy
My trunk struts were no good when I got the car they wouldn't even lift the boot you had to keep it held up the entire time. I just got mine regassed and the guy said the seal was great on them it's just because the car is over 10yrs old it had slowly lost gas over the years of use and the regas has kept them going strong since :)
Oscar Avila I originally bought some online but after 2 weeks the trunk wouldn’t stay up in the cold. Then about 1 week after that the mount on the end of the strut broke. So this time I went to z1 motorsports and haven’t had issues since then related to it.
"If one of my gauges mess up I just hit it" lmfao same here. My oil pressure gauge always goes to 0 and I have a mini heart attack. One of these days Ima hit it and it's just gonna stay there.
Kylen Collins if it does stay at zero dont let anyone tell you its your sensor. It is most likely your oil gallery gasket under the timing cover. The originals are made out of gd paper. I'll be replacing mine this week.
You forgot the door handles the damn door handles on the outside and inside will break i found around 100k miles they all just snap the plastic parts on the inside of them. Cost about 150 to replace the exterior ones and i fixed the inside ones for free on my last z with some plastic weld. Worked perfect looked stock
Unfortunately if you have the convertible there are these bands that help the top fold correctly that will stretch over time and need replaced. Not an easy fix and I had Nissan do them. I had other issues as well but the tune to fix my top was 1500 dollars with labor included. They did warranty for 2 years which I thought was good. Hey.....it’s a convertible and it needs to work or why bother. I love my Z.
Hey, don't forget rear diff mount bushings. After 10 to 20 thousand miles, they'll break. That's much more common than under tray and electrical meters. You didn't mention it and if you haven't checked it yet, then you should.
I loved your video. You seems like a very funny guy!. The window motor is a problem but you dont have to replaced the whole motor there is a small micro switch in the motor. Replaced that switch and all good. Cost me R50 in dollors its about 3.50 .
Thanks for the video, I am looking to buy a 350z. What year would you recomend me in looking at? I am a bit confused what is in the second hand market. Thanks in advance
Guess I'm a little late, but if no one else can be bothered I might as well for whoever scrolls by. Purely intuitively I'd say go with whatever speaks to your heart the most, but if you don't care about that stuff or can't make up your mind you probably want the more recent ones starting from 2005 onwards as the most recalls have been made in 2003/04. I've had some inconclusive research on whether the '05 versions already had the improved engine components or just the 35th anniversary edition, the latest I found was '06 so if you want "more" (more is a very strong word for a 7.5% change in hp (280 to 301, although some argue about the measurements back then)) responsiveness and power go with that, additionally you get some fancy premium comfort stuff (especially with the actual premium edition). Things like heated side-view-mirrors to give you the basic gist of it. In '07 the 350z got another performance upgrade, similar in scale to the '05/06 upgrade, resulting in more hp and a wider power band (despite a minor peak torque drop). So if stock power is what you want go with that.
Yeah, you'll still be able to drive, but it's best to get everything in advance just in case. Since most places charge a premium for parts unless you buy online
You forgot a common one: rough idling, clean or take apart the throttle body and clean carbon deposits esp using K& N filter that has oil, should be cleaned every 30k and don’t forget the mass airflow sensor , take it apart or sprAy with flow sensor cleane-:)
2006 G35 coupe here. Also have the gauge problem. And even worst the Fuel sending unit. Nissan electronics are shit. Wonder if the new 370z is the same....
Hey Nicholas, I am planning to get one of this beauty soon. Mind if I ask if the engine is still working good considering it has been quite an old age car?
LOL how i just finding this video.. the 5 things went out on my Z in the exact order you showed too.. except the window motors went out twice before the springs and struts for the trunk

Great solution to most of my 350z problems!
same haha

That's what the technician did at Chernobyl, right before the reactor blew up.
Ditto 1 slap last for months to a year b4 you gotta slap it again lol

Same here in my maxima😭
I just subscribe because of that 🤣
I do this to my oil pressure gauge 😂
Mechanic: it’s gonna be $120 to fix those trunk springs
This guy: 3 cents take it or leave it
I like to spend my money wisely with this car. haha
Garden hose rubber washers may also work.

Why did the engine blow?
@@THEADZBRADZ Not sure, I think it was from hole in driver side valve cover. Which led to oil starvation.

Bro literally the first 3 things are currently broken on my daily Z lmfaoo, so true
What is the name of the odometer side switches because I need a replacement
Thank you for diagnosing my trunk not always opening
No problem, don’t forget to subscribe!
Smacking electronics always fix things 😂
What year model is this..
“And outta nowhere, *CHA*, knocked out by the trunk”
It’s not a broken window motor. It’s just a limit switch that needs adjustment. There is a you tube video on how to do that....and it works!
Mojo DeCat not all have the reset switch.
added to my "Possible Future Help" playlist
Dont own a car yet but 350z prob gonna be my first car
Try to get one while you can, because prices are going up
Where did you get your undertray?
i like your fix for the trunk lift lol. Thats brilliant 👌 6 pennies vs 120 bucks. Well played!
Door handles
Radiator fan motors (don't buy the shroud,is just plastic, motors are cheaper on amazon)
Bose subwoofer
Door A/C vents
Plastic liners everywhere
Great video! Love my Z. I have had two Z's and they are great sport cars for the money and lots of fun to drive. I now have a 2007 convertible. The driver's door latch broke (common issue) and the straps that pull the top down got weak and had to be replaced. Other than that, a great ride. 🙂
Is the aluminum cover heavier or lighter than the original plastic one?
I think slightly heavier, but it's definitely worth it!
"Trunk just knocked you out" lol
Ever get that digital display in? I'm curious to see what that would look like, I kinda want to do that to my z but I wanna see how it looks before I go spending money.
dude you are a fucking genius I love that trunk spring fix
Accurate....I had everything thing you listed break on mine except mine was the fuel guage. And the storage compartment above the radio broke on mine too lol
Bruh I'm sitting here watching this at 3am cause I'm getting a 350z and when he said "your just in here and the trunk hits you like BAHHH" shit had me weak asf 😂💀💀
SO true,LOL, my 2008 350z replaced the trunk struts after it came down on my head lol, oil guage is out, passenger door handle stuck.
Zz Greg bet you're fun at parties
Zz Greg lol this one a super reliable sportscar. It has small problems... but never any big problems.
@@Alexanderofthe9th lmao underrated comment!
**Marks down each fault** BINGO!!
Trunk struts I bought on Amazon for 20ish dollars and they work awesome
Oscar Avila I originally bought some online but after 2 weeks the trunk wouldn’t stay up in the cold. Then about 1 week after that the mount on the end of the strut broke. So this time I went to z1 motorsports and haven’t had issues since then related to it.
Nicolas Keeton I was afraid of that too but I had mine for 2 months and still no issues
1:20 make a video on how you repair them
There is a button under the door lining on the window motor. You need to reset the window with that button its under a sticker .
You didn't mention it and if you haven't checked it yet, then you should.
quartettt423 yea i had to replace mine 😫 was a pain in the ass changing the bushings
I was scared to watch this video. pleased to hear the common problem areas won't affect my ability to drive the car. thanks for the video.
Yeah, you'll still be able to drive, but it's best to get everything in advance just in case. Since most places charge a premium for parts unless you buy online
Forgot to mention the Cam shaft sensor, door handles and brake switch light! Good video though
Also the Front lower control arm bushings
My G35 has simalar problems with the instrument cluster
rear hatch spring hack works great, just did mine
door handles go out too!
I'll keep an eye out for that.
Mine broke recently
You forgot a common one: rough idling, clean or take apart the throttle body and clean carbon deposits esp using K& N filter that has oil, should be cleaned every 30k and don’t forget the mass airflow sensor , take it apart or sprAy with flow sensor cleane-:)
Everything here. So. True. Sweet vid man!
Thanks!
This question is a Lil personal but I need to know bro, how long you own the 350z for and how much you got it for?
Lookin at an 06 tomorrow. Thanks so much for the tips!
Did you buy it? How is it?
2006 G35 coupe here. Also have the gauge problem. And even worst the Fuel sending unit. Nissan electronics are shit. Wonder if the new 370z is the same....
nice video! however, you forgot the door handles. Those break a lot
Valve covers...if you have oil in your spark plug tubes.
Part 2
Thanks alot man. Im about to buy one so this is really helpful. Like!
Where did you get your under tray engine cover from? I need to get one badly! Thanks.
Mike Bonez the Z speed undertray u can find at z1motorsports
Hey Nicholas, I am planning to get one of this beauty soon. Mind if I ask if the engine is still working good considering it has been quite an old age car?
Stonny my engine died at 193k miles and I abused the car a lot. So I thinks it’s a pretty good car.
LOL how i just finding this video.. the 5 things went out on my Z in the exact order you showed too.. except the window motors went out twice before the springs and struts for the trunk
