Oh my gosh I'm so happy to find your channel, I'm literally just sowing seeds indoors and was stuck how to proceed. Found you at the right time!!! Your videos are incredibly simple to watch and SO helpful! Thank you so much!
Hi! I bought some seedlings in pots but they are very cramped. Should I replant them and spread them out, snip off some stems to thin them out, or just replant them as they are in a bigger pot? Super grateful for any advice, thanks!
Hi. Probably the seedling have been in pot for too long so replant them as soon as possible. Crowded seedlings won’t make the lush growth desired for fresh leaf harvests and will form seed heads too early. So thin them and space groups of 2 or 3 seedlings if needed. remove any damaged or dying stem/leaves. Hope this helps. Happy growing and thank you so much for your comment!
You just keep picking leaves as you need and it keeps growing until the warm season hits and the plant goes bolting/flowering. It really depends on your weather condition/temperature. Glad you found it helpful and thank you for your comment!
The shelving unit provides air circulation under the pot. Is it rustproof? Or did you have to spray a layer of sealant? Do you have a link to the shelving unit?
If your pot is big enough (12-14"), sure you can. It depends how big you want the plants to grow. If is too congested, you will have small plants but it is definitely possible. Happy growing.
What dill sort are you growing? I planted dill here in Sweden two months ago but they are growing vertically.I’m not sure if it has to do with how I planted them but they look totally different.
This variety is called "Mammoth" which grows more bushy. Not sure if it was the variety you planted or lack of light that the plants are growing tall. I suggest to cut the top of the tall stems so it will grow from side shoots. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting.
Great video. I tried planting last year. It did ok but the pot was way too small. Quick question…what is the optimal month here in Ga to start this herb?
Ga has different gardening zones and I am not sure what part of Ga you are in, but generally early spring or around March is a good time to sow seeds. Happy growing and thank you so much for your comment!
I was wondering if it's too late in the season to plant Dill seeds in Houston Tx today's date is 03/22/23? I've been waiting for Spring time to plant them but since it's Houston TX IDK if it is possibly to late since in April and May we usually get in to the 80's and sometimes 90 degrees F°
I'd say go for it. If it gets too hot, move pots into shade. Worst case they will go flowering/bolting which for dills the flowers are very beautiful too. you will still be able to harvest some fresh leaves. Happy gardening and thank you for getting in touch!
Not for herbs as the soil is amended with manure/compost, but if needed, you can fertilize using a water soluble fertilizers such as fish emulsion. Thank you for visiting1
It means start new batch of sowing every few weeks so that when the first harvest is done and you are waiting it to regrow, you can harvest the second grown plants. Basically you will have fresh harvest continously. Hope this helps.
I am not sure if you can grow plants from store bought dills. But there are short and dwarf varieties that grow great in small containers. Check Fernleaf Dill www.superseeds.com/collections/dill/products/fernleaf-dill or Teddy www.johnnyseeds.com/herbs/dill/teddy-dill-seed-3293.html . For baby leaf, just harvest them early when they are young. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting!
Hi. The mix I used is shown in video @ 0:17 min, which is equal parts of aged compost, peat moss or coco coir and perlite. Hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!
We have mild winters here so I start seeds in early fall (August). For cold winters you can start in April, and for mild winter in March or July-August for fall crops. Thank you for getting in touch!
I planted three seeds into one pot (I got them for free) but only one germinated. I just bought some more, is it okay to plant new seeds into the same pot and soil as my single sprout? :)
@@TowardGarden well-watered - what does it mean? To water every day? I'm in Houston, so heat is expected any time now. Also should I protext dill from pouring rains?
@esb-ol6yd you need to keep soil moist but not soggy. If hot, yes water daily. And definitely you should protect plants from pouring rain. Hope this helps and thanks for visiting!
I do not understand. Other channels say to thin the seeds 12-18 inches apart, and others don't seem to thin the seeds at all. I do not know if i should thin my dill seedlings.
You don't want crowded seedlings. single or a batch of 2 works but each group should be separated. If more than 2 seedlings, then thin them. Thanks for visiting!
@@gb2115 If you will keep it in the 8 in pot and don't plan to transplant it, then thin it to just one seedling when 4-5 in tall. You can keep 2 seedlings (max) but plants will not grow very large. thanks
Im so confused on why my dill is growing so slowly. It sprouted about 90 days ago (it is now end of August), and its only about 2 inches tall and no more than the first 2 true leaves.
Can't tell without knowing details. I am guessing something is going on in the soil effecting the roots. Maybe moving to a new soil with added fertilizers would help. Hope your plant will thrive.
You can start picking leaves when plants are getting bushy and about 16"-18" long. Start picking only 1/3 of the leaves and let plant get mature and then you can pick more. Happy growing!

The variety I grow in England grows vertically too and very tall. No idea what variety it is, it just says Dill on the packet!
I should have watched this before I have put half of a packet of seeds into a similar container this morning 😅
No worries, just thin them out to 3-4 plants per pot. Thanks for visiting!

I use Vermiculite to top my pots. Seeds start well in it, and it helps prevent fungus gnats.

Why do you thin the seedlings?
If they are too crowded they will not have room to grow to their best. Thanks for visiting!

When should Dill be harvested
Start harvesting when the plants are about 8” (20cm), picking leaves as needed. Harvest before they shatter to the ground. Thank you for visiting.
Does dill need to be in full sunlight, how long?? Thx 😊
Full sun or part sun will work. About 4-6 hours of full sun is what you need but it can grow in some shade too. Thanks for visiting!
