I had a lot of fun building this telescope. I just wish it was not so hot outside. Note to self, find a quiet inside spot for the next build. Oh and NEVER believe the weatherman. He lies!

May 5, 2023 Lat 52°ish Long -3°ish BRILLIANT VIDEO exactly what I need! Want a laugh, Amy? When you said to open the base box first, well the INSTRUCTIONS are in the other box. Thought I hadn't been sent mine. 😀 Really enjoyed the fact you left in the part about placing the piece the wrong way. You are so friendly and enthusiastic. Excellent comment about the tools as they are the perfect size for a woman's hands. I put heavy duty casters with brakes on my base instead of the solid feet. It's a bit higher but I'm in an adapted wheelchair anyway. Wish the finderscope was on the same side as the eyepiece. Can't wait to look through it, but as with your fog, over here in Wales, it's been raining constantly for months. Watched several more of your exceptional videos and THANK YOU AMY! Fantastic one about abbreviations!!!! Will be subscribing! 💖💖💖

@@AmyAstro You are such a brilliant teacher - more like the very knowledgeable friend who comes over to help. You choose your vocabulary at just the right level. I taught for years and learned never to assume anything about a learner. With your videos, you have filled so many surprising gaps in mine. I just bought the ZWO 585 for my Celestron 8se. Any chance of a video? 😀 I also have StarSense AutoAlign which went bonkers and they just sent me a new one. I bought the NexYZ too, and with my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and expert RAW, I'm really having fun. Thank you so very much, Amy for your incredible videos. Sure would love one for my 8se on polar alignment, slewing and tracking. Tricky! Plus my Celestron dew shield is SO heavy, it makes my 8se slump downwards all on its own. A very sad sight indeed. I have ordered a dew heater too and will watch how to install it. THANK YOU AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!
Hi Amy - followed your wonderful video on using the StarSense Explorer Dob 10" with my camera in the cradle. One slight problem - perhaps you might mention to turn the camera on. 😃 Can you believe it? Never assume anything. I kept trying to pinch a black screen. DUH! Got generally close to my target but I am definitely buying a Rigel red dot finder to place near my eyepiece. I'll be careful it doesn't interfere with the mirror or cast a shadow on it. As I'm disabled, it's so hard to keep wheeling around the big tube 😃 Thanks for ALL your super videos!

I think you are going to enjoy this. Photos are nothing compared to looking for yourself. Especially the moon and planets through a really good telescope. I could be biased though :D

Cool shoes!! Hope you weren't caught in all the flooding down there. DOBs are great for star parties, and with the neat StarSense component, it makes this scope easy to move around the sky.

Loved this - as usual, you're expanding your horizons! There is something to say about bringing a second scope to the field with you. When you get your automation set up for AP, this will definitely provide something for you to do while the other rig is doing it's thing! Now, if you could only find a spot to fit it into the car for the trip to Deerlick! Do you think this is something we'll see at the Peach State this year? :D
I hope so. This may add a third trip home bringing stuff. lol
22:06 There were Plössl telescope eyepieces well before 1980, though they were less common (Plössl was basically a microscope eyepiece for a long time before that). In 1971, when I got started, most eyepieces were either Kellner (cheaper) or Orthoscopic (more expensive). Well-heeled amateurs drooled over Clavé Plössl eyepieces imported from France, as well as some other designs, such as Symmetrical (very similar to Plössl). It was Tele Vue in the 1980s that promoted the Plössl design and convinced everyone it was better than Orthoscopic.
Ok, weird question.... Where was the manual to build it ? I am looking everywhere on mine and can't find it... was it in the tube ?
iv never looked through a dob, thing is id want to put it on a huge equatorial mount. Then guide it. Then add a camera lol. Cheers Amy great vid as always

Amy, Not your fault because the manufacturer didn’t put a sticker on each board. Without stickers, very easy confusing. I like your shoes. Cute cats.

Hmmm, a Dobsonian. After you look through it once, what do you do with it next? Ha. I'm like you, not a "Visual" observer type. If it were mine, I'd be very tempted to just hoist it on an equatorial mount and connect a camera, and be done with it. Now if I had to assemble it as you did in my yard, I'd be covered in gnats in no time. Plus, by step 4, I would already be on my 2nd mug of beer with the tap within reach. I did get your screwdriver color statement ... yep, should have been orange. I also like your reference to Neil Patrick Harris ... "Challenged Accepted!" Final notes ... challenge achieved.

I have the 10". I carry the OTA and the base separatly. Both are easy to handle on it's own. The handles are well placed. I added a wheeled platform under it for when I have to move it around the house. :) PS. I love it!

A bit confused here. What happens to to the conclusion of the RASA build ? No imaging with the RASA ? Seem to be starting a new project and we have not seen the completion of the last one.
