i like the idea that bruno actually was a people pleaser who tried to help the community but people still hated him so he got sick of it and disappeared (of course mainly bc of his vision about mirabel but still).
I think that is what happened. He started out as the Golden child but fell from grace around his twenties with his visions displeasing people and became the scapegoat. I'm sure he was a people pleaser just by watching the film he does anything and everything for his family. To make his mom proud, to protect Mirabel, to save the magic and their Encanto. Bruno is very selfless. I bet He was trying to please the town with visions up until he turned 30. But as his Visions got more negative due to his pessimism the more the town treated him like a bad omen the more Bruno's stairs in his room raised higher and higher to keep them away. Which worked but sadly meant he was more disconnected from his family. When Pepa got married around 30 I think that caused the final rift with him and his sisters and so he no longer cared about pleasing his mom or the town as much. From 30 to 40 I bet he stayed away from everyone in his room hanging out with the rats just coming by to play with his nieces and nephews. Then of course when he turned 40 the whole thing with Mirabel not getting her gift happened and we all know what happened from their. Sure he could have told them and put all the blame onto Mirabel a unknowing child. But he decided to protect his innocent niece by throwing himself into self exile for ten years. He's a pleaser through and through which all started with him wanting to please someone who could never be pleased. His mother.
That is implied during the vision he gives Mirabel. First he worries she'll react like the woman with the goldfish, then sighs "every time" when she does indeed get mad about the vision (although not mad at him).
This video is very accurate to Bruno's character. He started out as the Golden child always being told since he was 5 years old to serve and help his community. But as his visions grew more negative so did the towns outlook on him making him become the family's Madrigal Scapegoat for all their problems. In an attempt to please his mother and make her proud he would over extend himself not putting up boundaries with others when more and more people asked him for visions. It's been confirmed by the creator that Bruno gets headaches and migraines the more he overuses his gift. Causing him to become extremely exhausted and making him pass out on a daily. This would only become worse with it has also been confirmed that he sometimes gets involuntary visions like seizers. With his body and mind exhausted from over extending himself with his gift, his mother's lack of pride and conditional love, and the town's fear and negativity of him due to ignorance it's no wonder he would lose consciousness often with no energy to spare. I bet it was very frightening to watch Bruno go into his visions without warning. Him losing the ability to see the present around him, being unable to stand with no strength within him, and him passing out without knowing when or if he would ever wake up again. I know he left mainly for Mirabel's sake to protect her from the same fate as him but he was no doubt distancing himself long before he went into hiding if this is how they treated him as his own body and mind was deteriorating on him. I know they loved him but Bruno deserved better.

Isn't that already sorta canon? But yeah I agree wholeheartedly, he definitely seems the people pleaser type (like me).

Now that you mention the thing with him getting visions like seizures... perhaps that's why he uses a ritual to get a hold of his visions?
Man I think I call it "Vision overload" (cos: too many people asking on what will happen in there future in a bad way)
Poor Bruno...
Julieta so sweet to her Brother
