The thing that stands out about "Silk" is that he was so damn consistent. He was consistent in the regular season and the playoffs - Jamaal knew his role and he stayed in his lane to benefit the team. Even when Wilkes was a rookie with the Warriors you knew you were gonna get 15 and 8 night in and night out. When things were on the line he would calmly step up and give you even more. He was always capable of doing more but he was a team player.
Jamal is probably the most underappreciated player in the history of basketball. And the most graceful. FYI: John Wooden grudgingly called Wilkes his favorite player because he could do everything very well. Yes, there's Larry, LeBron, Dr. J, and of course Elgin as forwards. But Jamal Wilkes is the player I admired the most. People forget that Golden State championship, in which Wilkes and Rick Barry started at the forward spots, each doing a variety of roles. Jamal had a lot of spring in his step, and could guard bigger players and grab rebounds. A great, great player.
Not a shooting form you would teach a player, but there was no way to refute his ability. That '74-'75 Warriors team was fun to watch, with Clifford Ray and his long-range outlet passes, Barry's shooting ability, Wilkes' full-court elocution, along with veteran Jeff Mullins and journeyman Butch Beard.
the fact that Sir Jamaal Wilkes wasn't part of the 75th anniversary team but Lilard, Davis and Harden was is so Blasphemous. I'm not saying they're not good but it's too early for them to be included in that team.
His nick name was smooth as silk, right place right time....all the time. Best hands n the business....guy was a 🥷 ninja, never see him until u see his stats....20plus pts 7 or 8 boards couple of steals....just consistent
Underrated as hell...with his 37 points and 11 rebounds, magic isn't ''jumping at center'' against measly Caldwell Jones and winning. Especially since Caldwell got smoked by Kareem with a 1980 finals series average of : 34 ppg, 14 rpg, 5 bpg at FG:55% WTF!? Kareem is equal to MJ all day, and nobody notices....that was Kareem's finals MVP, not Magic Johnson's. Kareem>Bird>Magic
No need to hate on a legend like magic that's a loser's mentality but Kareem was robbed big time 1980 was his year for fmvp one of the biggest robbery in basketball and sports history and
one time my dad stood by bill walton at a grateful dead concert in san francisco, he told me it was a seven foot white guy with an afro, he said people were going up to him for his autograph so he knew he was special for something, I knew exactly who he was talking about
Magic use to routinely find Jamaal lurking around the Basket all the time for an easy 2 points. But I can't find a Single video of UCLA Bruin Bill Walton dishing out an assist to Silk?
they also take into what he did in college this hall of fame is a basketball hall of fame not an nba hall of fame! That is why you have someone like sabonis or drazen petrovic in the hall of fame as well because of what they did in europe!
He's a great player but how is he a Hall of Famer? He only has 3 All-Stars, no All-NBA team, and has 4 rings only because he was on a stacked team. If those are the requirements for entering the Hall of Fame might as well rename it the Hall of Above Average Players.
Agree joker. I would say he was a very good, but watching him, I never thought of him as a HOFer. Solid, decent to pretty good in all areas. I couldn't agree more, joker.
Agree, joker. When I watched him (G.S and L.A) , I never thought "this guys' a Hall of famer. " You thought that of Barry, Kareem, Magic, Moses and others. Never thought that of Wilkes. Very good player, no doubt. HOF? Questionable, at best.
@Tong Zou totally agree on your Dandridge/Wilkes takes. You may recall when Washington won their only title, Dandridge was the primary clutch shooter and perimeter player, ball mover. Agree that he seemed to raise his game as necessary, more so than Wilkes. Wilkes was very good at playing off some truly brilliant players. And he played with plenty. Walton (UCLA), then Barry (GS) and of course Kareem & Magic (Lakers). Dandridge, at least for stretches of his career, was the top dog on his team. Never the case for Wilkes. Also, like Walton, Wilkes UCLA career, is a strong factor as well. Regarding Marques, certainly a true standout at Milwaukee. Unfortunately, like Kevin Johnson and Mark Price, afterwards, he had only about 5, 6 all star caliber seasons due to injury. It's why I couldn't vote for em for the Hall if I had a vote.

ARIZJOE
On the Golden State Title team, Jamaal (he was known as "Keith" then) Wilkes was basically Pippen to Rick Barry's Jordan.
Gave dr.j trouble

Salute to Jamaal Wilkes one of the best ever

Dame belongs. Davis can't stay healthy. Harden has stats, but little real value.
Wilkes was a great player and also, RIP Darryl Dawkins
Silk is one of the most underrated players ever. Clutch and consistent big time on both levels college and pro
“Silk” was the nickname given to me in high school in the early 80s. I got it from that guy Jamal Wilkes.
It's often surprised people that legendary college basketball coach John Wooden named Jamaal Wilkes his ideal player of all time.
Shouldn't be a suprise.
When Jamaal Wilkes is the 4th or 5th best guy on the team
=
Stupid, stupid good

if u got to question Jamaal SILK Wilkes as a hall of famer y'all know nothing about basketball period 😀
But he single-handedly as a rookie help the Golden State Warriors to pull off one of the greatest upsets in NBA history 1975 NBA champions
