- The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit - stripped-down sets, an intimate setting - just a different space.

I find mehro's voice to be simply stunning; it reminds me of the moment I first heard Jeff Buckley. My favorite new artist of last year opens this Tiny Desk (home) concert with "chance with you," a song of regret from his 2021 SKY ON FIRE project. It's the song that first grabbed my attention and is performed so intimately here from a rehearsal space in Santa Monica. His bandmates include Dylan Bailey on guitar and Callen O'Brien on percussion and a 1921 Steinway.
mehro's strength is in his restraint. The guitars sit quietly under his storytelling and that yearning voice has power without volume. He writes songs to express what he can't otherwise say. "hideous" is about someone he loved who wouldn't acknowledge his presence: "Can't you look at me? / Am I that hideous to you? / Can't you talk to me? / Do I really mean nothing to you?"
Love and infatuation are themes that turn to poetry for this young songwriter and mehro embraces these well-worn emotions with a grace and beauty that is fresh and fragrant, ending this home concert with "perfume" as he looks inward while expressing outward: "Heels over head in the bedroom / You smell so good, don't need perfume / I'm a tulip, you're the spring bloom / I'd be a fool not to love you."

I love how mehro looks at the camera during hideous because he is singing about someone who didn't notice his existence and the fact that he does have the courage to stare at the camera while singing is artistic to me. It's like he's trying to say that despite the treatment he received, he wouldn't do the same. Even though that person hurt him, he can still look at them- noticing that they exists without any regrets. I don't even know how to explain it in words, maybe it's just my perspective or my mind thinking nonsense again but it's amazing what he can convey with a look.

Right? No distraction whatsoever. This is the one of the most pure sounding bits of music I have heard since the 90's.
I can really feel the love you had for the person "hideous" is about. That intensely passionate gaze you give the camera really speaks volumes. I'm so sorry that happened mehro, but as you sweetly sing with fire in your eyes, "I regret nothing."

I love the fact that Mehro is singing exactly these four specific songs because i discovered him through chance with you, my favourite of his and the one that beautifully hurts me everytime i listen to is hideous, perfume was my most listened song of 2021, and like you're god is his latest release which i absolutely adore. Okay, I've seen it all. Now there are many things I have to get off my chest.
First, you made an incredible choice of songs! I don't know how it was for you, but for me it would’ve been difficult to choose between so many gems.
Second, the interpretation you gave them here is the same but different, does that make sense? Let's start with your voice, it was full of power and feeling as always. The studio setting feels warm, a little more intimate, and I think Dylan and Callen add to this. They don't seem to be the band of, they all bring a lot to the table, they’re all comfortable with each other and it shows.
And in closing I just wanna say how happy I am for you, you are accomplishing all these things and my heart fills with pride. How incredible that your talent reaches and charms more people.
If you allow me, I’ll go and watch this tiny desk concert over and over again without stopping. Wow, just wow.

This performance is simply ethereal. The emotion in his voice is everything. I find it incredible how easy it is for him to speak to someone’s heart directly without having to say many (or complicated) words. It’s really an honor to be part of his growth as an artist. I hope we get more of these in the future
