HOW TO REPLACE Axle Wheel Bearings | 1999 Yamaha Wolverine - Rear Axle Fix Grinding/Howling Noise
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 лис 2020
- We just picked up this 1999 Yamaha Wolverine 350cc 4x4 ATV for $800. It had an unidentified noise in the bottom end or rear differential that the previous owner was destined to be an expensive fix. But here is how to fix a nasty growling grinding noise on your Yamaha ATV (Big Bear, Kodiak, Wolverine)
In this video, we take apart disassemble the rear axle, rear disk brake, and rear differential and replace the left wheel bearing in the diff housing as well as the right rear bearing in the disk brake housing of the rear swingarm. It was an easy job and only took about $100 in parts to complete.
Now we need to replace the top head gasket - Stay Tuned!

This video has been so extremely helpful. I am on the reassembly phase and I've referenced this video at least a half a dozen times. Thank you!
Thankyou! Glad this helped!
This is really similar to my 86 225 moto 4, I got rear noise coming from the differential, Thank you
glad it helps!
If you have the rear differential apart, Please replace the two seals. I can't believe he put the old seals back in. Second they should have put a little grease in that inner needle bearing. One more thing is never use a torque wrench to remove nuts and bolts, unless it's junk and you will not be relying on it to measure torque.
all solid advice - i couldnt get the seals from the dealer and they said it could be weeks so
i took a chance and reused the old ones. At this point i wasnt even sure if i actually fixed the noise and was eager to get it back together.
I have a Wolverine and if I ever have to replace the rear bearings, I know how to go about doing it now. Thanks@@mudbrats
@@tint661 thankyou!
@mudbrats please explain those things about the seals as some people don't know about those things as why you didn't replace the seals...
@@squidsquaw i couldnt get the seals - wanted to get my bike back together - i didnt bend them taking them out and they fit back in no problem and no leaks. So in my case i didnt need new seals. Obviously for such a low cost part, if you can get new seals replace them. They can be damaged on removal and the rubber does get harder over time so wont seal as good as fresh rubber
Hey thanks man!! This is exactly the video I need
Awesome - glad this helped you! do me a favour and hit the like button if you havent already
@@mudbrats I just did. I actually found the bearings on Walmart app. Less than $20 in the states. Thank you again
Great video..... i was singing the love boat with You.... ha,ha... hey also if you don't have a socket or the old bearing... you can also use a block of wood... much softer on the metal. Great video... using it right now on my wolverine... keep it up.
awesome thankyou! More wolverine wild life to follow - love this quad
Awesome help guys. Best one in awhile
Thankyou! More wolverine vids to come🖖
“Don’t you usually press those in with a hammer” lol
🤣 all ya need is a hammer, slot screwdriver and a pair of vice grips.
My big bear 350 was making a grinding noise coming from the left rear wheel, thought it was axle splines but it turned out to be the rear wheel just not being tightened enough and the pin was through it so you could not tighten it, took the pi out and tightened it now the sound is gone😂
its always more simple than we first think haha - thanks for watching and the comment, it may help someone down the road! ❤️
nice work
Thankyou! There’s more wolverine videos coming this spring!
The singing 🤣
I sing a lot..... and realize I shouldn’t 😂
@@mudbrats lol
How much diff fluid do you put back in it
Can anyone help me locate the part number for the right rear seal? My local bearing shop has a manual but the seal that it shows is nowhere near correct.
Great video, when is the next live stream
Tuesday 7PM and its a good one! David McKinney of 509Films fame
Nice little machine. I know a guy that's looking for one of those .HaHa.
Betty Davis is giving me way more trou... er “video opportunities “ than Rosco ever did!
what oil do you have in the differential and how much ? Thanks you for the video this will help me with repair when i receive my part.
Royal Purple and fill til it comes out the level hole
Hey my bearing broke like yours when you where pounding it out, but I can’t seem to catch that lip lip you did. Any tips?
thats a tough one? wonder if you have any machinists, fabricator or tool and die shops in your area that could look at it and help? i think i got lucky
@@mudbrats thanks for the suggestion. I was able to pound it out after cutting a chunk of the the outer bearing with a Dremel. It was insanely hardened steel!!!
@@brysonmynatt they certainly are hardened! Glad to hear you won that battle 🏆
What bearings did yall use . If yall have bearings numbers I need it
ill look them up tonight if i can find them
Número de balero y sello de lado del diferencial exterior, no de la tapa
Took my differencal apart my pinion gear teeth was ripped no teeth on it $289 on ring and pinion set
ouch! i think i got off lucky on this one!
@@mudbrats you know the name of that boot that bolts to the cover that covers the driveshaft and then bolts to the motor
Will a bad barring cause the rear to wiggle??
That’s likely a swing arm bushing that’s worn out causing the wiggle. Right where it pivots to the frame
Just saying cap go before that wheel
Ill have to check that - thanks!
U lost me at the singing lol
Hey theres a lot of that around here - sorry 😂
what's your exhaust? better than stock one?
It’s a Honda muffler. The previous owner slapped it on. It has no benefit and actually is too long so it sticks out the back way too far
Why did you not put a new seal in
I didn’t have one, and I wasn’t sure that this was the fix. At the time I was doing this, I was under the assumption from the previous owner that there was a major problem in the gearbox. My hunch was the rear end and I was right. But at this time, the seals weren’t included in the kit and I just wanted the unit back together to test. Seals were in good condition and 3yrs later still no leaks so I a, happy with the decision. If I even need to do it again, I will be ordering seals
You guys have had no issues with mixing molybdenum grease with hypoid oil???
not yet… the wolverine is running strong - what are the risks?
he's saying where you put the grease on the needle bearings... inside the diff.
What about the race on the passenger side
it came off with the bearing. The bearing came out as 1 piece where the other side had disintegrated so the race remained in place and the balls and inner/outer bearing wear apart
This could be the same problem as my timberwolf
likely - wheel bearings are a wear item and need replacement
Torque specs?
2 ugga dugga’s hahaha - which part do u need torque specs for?
"Parts for these things are everywhere" "parts for these wolverines are getting harder and harder to find"
Both true statements. Look for a few parts and let me know how you make out 😂
Y’all have an extra rear axel you’d like to sell
No Sorry - Where are you located, I know a parts recycler in Ontario that has a wolverine to part out
@mudbrats where are you located, I'm in gta
