There never was a star quite like Shirley Temple. Adored by adults and children alike, at four she already led at the Box Office -- ahead of Gable and Cooper.
Her films saved a movie studio from bankruptcy, and a President credited her with raising the morale of Depression-weary Americans. Her earliest movies gave a foretaste of her talents and soon would become the songs and dances that helped make those movies immortal. Here she is at her heart-stirring best in films like Little Miss Marker, Now and Forever, Bright Eyes, The Little Colonel, Poor Little Rich Girl, Stowaway, The Little Princess, and The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer.
Also appearing: actors Caesar Romero, Alice Faye and Gloria Stuart, and former child actors Jane Withers, Darryl Hickman, Dick "Dickie" Moore, Marcia Mae Jones, and stand-in Marilyn Granas. Our host is an entertainment legend in his own right -- Tommy Tune.

Shirley Temple was the cutest and one of the sweetest girls, ever, in spite of being raised in the spotlight. Just about all of today's young celebrities could take a lesson, or two, from Shirley, on how to not let it all go to their heads and act like overly-entitled fools. these are so cute!! I have never seen any of them before. She seemed like she had a really happy childhood. Such a far cry from what happens nowadays to child stars.

I always felt Anissa Jones who played Buffy on Family Affair came pretty darn close to being the next Shirley Temple. She was everywhere in the 60s and merchandise was crazy as well.

She was older than four. They lied about her age to make her seem more precocious. But she was special nonetheless. Some of those early, pre-stardom films she made were terrible. Terrible meaning the children were abused on the set (mothers banned and social workers bribed) and made to work in unreasonable conditions.
She was cute and nobody will ever replace her, I had her doll I wish I would have kept it it would be worth a lot. Bertha Pape
