I'm sure they just can't get their hands on it. Suffice it to say, Brooke and Deacon are all ashamed. Deacon links back home and doesn't break up with Bridget. Brooke goes about her business. In the meantime, Ridge has a confrontation with Massimo and warns him to stay away from his family, including his mother. Moss is laughing at him being a pouty child. Ridge grabs some kind of samurai sword and brandishes it at Moss. Of course, being a fool, he ends up slicing himself. Moss calls an ambulance, and they bring Ridge to the hospital. All caught up! :)
As much of a dork Rick is, Amber still doesn’t deserve him! The way she stuck her tongue down Deacon’s throat every time they were alone. What a deceitful tramp!
*Brooke and Deacon - character-defining or out of character?* As character-defining as Brooke's affair with Deacon becomes after this, in many ways I think it is actually _out of character._ First of all, Deacon is not Brooke's type. She has always viewed herself as the Cinderella in a romantic fairy tale, and in order to play that role she needs to fall in love with a Prince. Ridge, being the "crown prince", is the perfect choice. Eric and Thorne, being related to Ridge and part of the Forrester dynasty, also follow this pattern (but their appeal consists mainly of Brooke transferring her feelings for Ridge onto them). The other men Brooke has been involved with have all been successful professionally, giving them an air of high (if not royal) status. But Deacon is none of this - in fact, Brooke initially thought of him as a "Ioser" who was not good enough for Bridget. He doesn't represent an opportunity for Brooke to cIimb the social Iadder. He doesn't have a place in Brooke's fairy tale romance fantasy _at all._ So why is she attracted to him? Secondly, Brooke is a competitive schemer who usually plots in order to win a man away from his wife. She cIaims to "follow her heart", but her actions up until this point have always been deliberate and goaI-oriented. Brooke's defining trait is that she _wants_ something and then goes after it. By contrast, her sleeping with Deacon is completely _random._ It comes virtually out of nowhere and cuIminates immediately, and the competition is someone she is not actually particularly _motivated_ to bring down (since it is her own daughter). So where is the thriII of the chase? Yes, Brooke is a character driven by passion and Iust. But having her sleep with _anyone,_ including her own daughter's husband, is an over-simplification of the character because it focuses on only one of her character traits. It reduces Brooke from a competitive "fauxmantic heroine" (@Nick) to an aimIess scandaI machine - a siren who draws men to her almost in spite of herself.
He’s the opposite of Ridge and she was trying to fight against her nature and go for someone who she wouldn’t usually like. She was doing everything she could to get Ridge out of her system.
Great post and character analysis Annie! I agree with you that Deacon isn't Brooke's type and that having her sleep with her daughter's husband flattens her character to "generically scandalous" instead of the very specific history she had with Eric and Ridge. (Of course Brad Bell had already ruined her that way by pairing her with Thorne) However as I wrote the other day, I think it's believable that Brooke would experiment with different types of men now because she's already achieved much of her fantasy: she's wealthy, she's powerful, she controls Forrester Creations and she has children with the Forrester patriarch. She doesn't need to climb the social ladder anymore. And I think a character like Brooke should have multiple Great Romances and she's freer to pursue a wider range of those now. But the way to have her be with Deacon _and_ keep her competitive romantic drive _without_ turning her into a generic scandal magnet would've been to make this a Brooke/Deacon/Amber triangle. I don't know why the show didn't just do that when Brooke and Amber already have a rivalry and when Amber already has feelings for Deacon! The _obvious_ storyline was right there. There was no reason to include Bridget and her being so young and wanting to be married to a 30 year old bum made no sense. Furthermore, having Brooke battle Amber for Deacon would've allowed Brad to reconstruct the kind of tricky dynamics his father employed in The Manipulation Game (the Season 5 and Season 6 storyline where Stephanie and Brooke are unholy allies trying to pair off Stephanie with Eric and Brooke with Ridge). This time you would have Brooke trying to keep Rick and Amber together despite despising Amber and wanting better for her son because she wants Deacon for herself.
I think it's at this point they really wanted to portray Brooke as a s E x siren who no man (even the most random man) can resist. Bc why else would this even be a story
Excellent posts (as usual) by Annie and Nick! It really would've made a lot more sense for Brooke and Amber to be competing over Deacon. My wife (then girlfriend) and I used to watch B&B together back then. This is around the time we stopped watching it regularly because Brad was taking the show in a bad direction and making it more outlandish like Days of Our Lives (even literally bringing in Stefano from Days of Our Lives).
@@NewYorkNick0607yes, that is an excellent point about Brooke not having to climb the social ladder anymore! And you are right that an Amber/Deacon/Brooke triangle would make more sense - it would also solve the issue that I mentioned about Brooke not actually wanting to compete with her own daughter when her being competitive is usually the motivation behind her romantic pursuits.

Meanwhile, -a hopeful- Megan visits Brooke and gives her the day off. (And here was I thinking that Brooke was Megan's boss and not the other way around.) Megan figures out that Brooke had a man in the house last night. Brooke tells Megan that Deacon is leaving Bridget, and that Brooke is "more convinced than ever" that Deacon doesn't love Bridget... Amber is having sad flashbacks of her and Rick. Rick enters and wants to tell Amber something she isn't going to like. It takes him the entire episode but finally he goes on tho say that he is giving her one more chance and he's staying with her. Amber actually appears to like what he is saying after all.
