- Do you want to know how to connect PCI-E cables to the Graphics Card?
Note: Turn off the computer and disconnect it from the main power source.
Second Part: How to physically install the graphics card on the motherboard.
Before buying the Power supply, check the requirement for your graphics card and motherboard. Make sure the power supply has the required 6-Pin and 8-pin.
These days a graphics card consumes more power than a CPU when it’s under load. And a decent graphics card consumes at least 75Watts which it can acquire from the PCI Express x16 slot. But higher end cards can take upwards of 400Watts these days. The extra power comes from the 6-pin and 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors from the power supply.
In the video I haven’t mentioned anything about using a SATA or Molex to PCI-E 6-pin or 8-pin connectors and covertors. I would like to avoid using it because of many reasons which requires its own standalone video.
Get a 500Watts power supply for your basic builds from reputed brands like ThermalTake or Corsair. These days the 500Watts or higher Power supply starts at AED 170 onwards. So if you find something in that range go for it.

I haven't worked on zotac 3070ti but i have used 3080 ant 3090. Both models only had 2 x 8pin power connection. I am not sure if your card actually has more than 2 x 8 on connection. For such a card type psu should be having individual pcie cables. Some psu come with 2 pcie cable with 8pin x2 per cable. The second 8pin being a pigtail. Higher end psu might have 3 separate cables. So depending on the number of cables you adjust. But such a card requires atleast a psu with 2 separate pcie power cables.

so 3060Ti has 12 power pins ? my PSU has 8pin(6+2) x4 power connector. Is it good to go ?
Rtx 3060 oc edition has 8 pin and also some version had 8pin + 6 pin which is an overkill. Rtx 3060 ti can be 8 pin + 6 pin with a max of 8pin + 8 pin. Even rtx 3080 needs only two 8 pins. So i am not sure about your 12 pin requirement unless you are talking about FE cards from nvidia directly

Yes. That's what i wanted to say. Even if its 12 pins, it comes with an adaptor. I have all the premium cards in the rtx 3000 series except 3090 now. But no FE.

Thanks for this video. I built a system with a GTX570 10 years ago. It has 2 6 pin connectors, I just bought a GTX 970 & it has a 6 pin & an 8 pin connector. I looked in motherboard box & the connectors you show are in there.
I have a gtx 970 too, which power supply do you have? Can I use the cable 6+2 pins? And connect 6+2 for the 8 and 6 for the 6? Leaving the 2 outside?

Great stuff, but what do you plug into on the power suppply? I have these different sockets with labels pci 1 and pci 2 and drive, etc. looks like i need 2 cables, but I could be stuffed even though it is a high quality, high power supply.

Hello, I have 6x2 pins from psu but my gpu uses 1x 6pins and 1x8 pin. Can I use an adapter from 1x 6 pins to 8 pins for gpu? Will my pc be safe?

The cable is part of the psu right? I mean it came from the factory that way? Then you should be good.

Hi I just got GTX 750 and it has 6 pin but my power supply already plugin to the motherboard with 8 pin. And when I plugged it in. It won't work I guess I need a adapter for the gpu power supply 6 pin connector?
If my power supply has two 6+2 cables and my graphics card is 12 pin, then I only have to use the two 6 pin cables leaving the other 2 aside?
What about daisy chained cables? I have my 2070Super plugged in with a daisy chained cable, since the card has an 8pin and a 6pin, and the card according to NVidia requeres 215w, which is exactly what the PCIe + the PSU cable is providing I guess. But I don't know if I'm putting my GPU at risk for doing this or if I should definately plug in a separate cable for the 6pin.
The PSU will have a label or at least on the website. It will say how much power is available on the 12V rail. So if you are getting close to 90% of that number and you are using a cheap PSU, Then I would warn you. But if are using something like a Corsair or premium branded PSU. You should be okay. The PCIe motherboard draw varies from card to card. I understand the term daisy chaining, but in your case, I don't know what is your primary endpoint. Have used a SATA or Molex converter? Or used 1 x 6 pin PCI-E power and used splitters to make it 1 x 8 and 1 x 6? That would not be a great idea as the wires cant handle that much power. If you are confident enough, Try running MSI Kombustor and do a burn-in test on the card which will push it to full load. Check the connector's wires and points to see if they are heating up. Listen to PSU fan to see if it's getting cranked up to the max. Touch and feel if PSU is getting HOT, plus the air coming from the PSU is very hot? These are indicators that there is too much load on these components and it isn't safe. I wouldn't run a stress test for more than 3 minutes in your case to be on the safe side. Also, don't run a CPU stress test at the same time as it will max out the power usage and blow the PSU if the power limit is crossed.

hey, i just got r9 270. mine has two - 6 pin pcie connector. my psu only have one 6+2 pin. can i use splitter for that? is it safe? or can i just power it with only one 6 pin cable?

Use separate if you have two separate cables available, its better to balance the load so the cables and the connectors last long.
Just found to buy second hand gtx 1080 ti and thinking for these cables, how to connect maybe need to buy new power supply but you pop up. My are the same and because of you I will get it :)

Question: i have a modular Seasonic Focus 850W 80 plus gold, it has a single PCI-E cable with two 4-pin connectors. Do i use 2 separate PCI-E cable or that single one will be enough?
Depends on the graphics card. If the card has 2 x 8 pin ports on it, then its better if you would connect two separate cables. It will work if you use single cable, but that's not recommended

Am using R9 280x it requires 1 6pin and 1 8pin and my supply only have 6 pin ....Can i Use Sata to 8pin Connector or 6pin to 2x 8pin to power my card? Plz respond
If your psu had 1 x 8pin, i would have said go ahead and use 2 x sata to 1 x 6 pin. But a psu with 1 x 6 pin is actually limited on the total power available typically. For example HP workstation psu comes with 1 x 6 pin. If you use an AMD graphics card in the pc and use sata to 8pin and play a game, the chances are the psu will shut down. How do i know this? I build 100s of pcs in different configurations and tested such cases.
Now if you are lucky this might not happen to you immediately. Then there are 2 possibilities,
1. It shutdown later when psu overheats or blows up
2. It works for ever without any issue for the rest of its life.
I know everyone wants to have option 2, for that you have to experiment and the result might be costly if it blows up
My GPU takes 2x 8 pins. Does it matter that on the PSU end it only has a 12 pin. (So it goes from 12 to 2x 8.)
Some power supplies have a split pcie cables like the Cosair RX1000. To power a 3090, should you use 2 split cables for the 3 8pins or 1 split for each 8 pin?
I would use 1 split cables for each 8 pin. That would be the most ideal way.

ok i have a questain ,,my gpu has 1 8pin connector witch i have pluged in .. but there is a 6 pin connector on my mother board for pci should that be powered as well?? rite now i dont have it pluged in i have a msi z390a mother board and a geforce 2070 gpu every thing is working but im not sure if that pci 6 pin should be hooked up as well
that 6pin provides stable power to the PCIe slots on the board. If you are getting any crashes while playing or unstable FPS. You should try to plug it in. Typically you would do that is are going to SLI or populate all the PCIe slots with cards. Hope this info helps.

If the psu provides separate pcie cables, which is true in your case, definitely use them. 3070 is a powerful card that requires a lot of power. The 2 x pcie cables would be able to sustain the voltage without dropping during heavy loads
Better use 2. My PC shutdown randomly while gaming with 1 pcie on 3070. With 2 pcie never again
I have a 8+6 pin slot but just a 6 pin power cord. I plugged that in & it says i need to power to it.. do i need both connections? If so & my computer doesn't have both what do I do?
6 pin power cord means you are limited on power by your psu manufacturer. The best way to go about it would be to upgrade the psu to a better one. 600 watts psu or better. Branded like Deepcool, aerocool, Thermaltake, corsair etc...

I still have some confusion. I upgraded to a 3070ti which requires the 3 8 pin connections. My PSU came with 2 PCI-E 8 pins (each is an 8 pin at the PSU end, and the other end is a Y cable to x2 sets of 6+2. So right now I'm using the first cable coming from PSU 1st connection to the GPU's 1 and 2. Then I use another identical cable in PSU 2 going to GPU 3 (and the other side of the Y cable Is just not used because.... well.. it's got nowhere to go). Is there an advantage to using 3 separate cables all going from my PSU to each of the 3 connections on the GPU? I have 5 available holes for PCI-E/CPU on my PSU and with this current method im only using 3 (2 for the GPU and 1 for the motherboard CPU power). I definitely have the holes available on the PSU but im having trouble finding the cable I want anywhere. Does no one just make a straight up 8 pin PCI-E cable without having a Y split on the other end? looks ugly and I just want to make sure I'm getting proper power to this GPU. Thanks!
I understand your confusion because I recently set up a few machines on RTX 3070Ti. I used high-end and cheap PSUs to achieve this task.
After reading your action, I am sure, you did fine. So don't worry. If you can't find the extra cable the keep the setup as it is. If you can find the extra PCI cable then use it and only the 1 end of the Y to be connected. So you will have 3 wires from PSU going into the GPU. That makes wiring a bit more complicated and then you have 3 connectors not used, more ugly. The current way you have done is fine. It's the same way most would set up the PC. I hope you have a PSU with more than 750Watts Output. i7-11700K + RTX 3070ti hits 700Watts peak initially. But settled down in between 550 + 650Watts under stress in extended usage.
I have a gtx 970 g1 gaming that needs a 6-pin cable plus an 8-pin cable. I'm looking at power supplies to buy, and they all have the 6+2 cable. Can I use one of 6+2 and another of 6+2 leaving the 2 disconnected?

Hello nice video, one question my gpu needs a 8pin and 6 pin and my power supply has only 6 pin and some two old 4 pins that arent connectable to the graphics card (gtx 970 g1 gaming). Should i buy a new power supply or buy a 8pin cable and try to connect it to the power supply?
As per your statement, the power supply isn't powerful enough for your graphics card as per the power supply manufacturer. Regardless of the power rating on the PSU, the manufacturer sometimes protects themselves by only providing just 1 x 6 pin or 8 pin pcie power connector. So practically you cant connect more power hungry card to the psu. So in you case, if you can spare some money, Get a decent PSU that has two 8pin pcie power connectors.

No, it won't be there on those cheap dell pcs. You could use gtx 1050ti or gtx 1650 without the 6pin adaptor. Only a few models have this option.

GTX 780 at 2.29. I just got this recently and was wondering if I should go the route of buying a molex connector for the other 8 pin card slot as my ATX Switching PSU 700w only has the 6 pin connector that was previously in my GTX 660.
Typically a 700Watts PSU will have 2 x pin Pcie connectors. Most decent brands do have. Even the old ones. So please look again at all the wires coming out of your psu. If its modular then definitely the cable is not plugged in. GTX 780 is a power hungry card that can easily blow up low grade PSU. You can connect from 2 Molex to 1 x 6 pin PCIe is there is no other way. But atleast the first 8 pin must be connected to the PSU Pcie power.
@@2FarTech Hi thanks for getting back to me. I have just checked again and it deffinitley only has 1 x 6 pin Pcie connector while the rest is sata ends thats left. On closer inspection the PSU says Pentium 4 Model-E 700BR on the side so it could be really older model as its in an Emachines PC. Might have to invest in new PSU to be safe.
If it says pentium 4, then it's hopelessly old. Go for a 650 watts thermaltake model.

Nice but are the cables all the same??? I have a bunch of PCIe power cables. I can't remember from which graphic cards they all are. Can I just use any 2 for powering my new 3080 card? Or is each PCIe cable particular to a power supply?
Pcie power cables coming as part of modular psu isn't the same across the brand or even the same brand different models. The psu end might fit across different psu's but the pin out might be different so it's not a good idea to mix the pcie cables from different brands. I do this, but i use multimeter to check the positive and negative before and after just to be sure

I have a 750TI but i think it should be the same.
It depends on the ports on the card. If card has 1 x 6pin port only, you need only 1 x 6pin. I dont think the GTX 750 or GTX 750 ti would require more than 1 x 6 pin. There are some models of GTX 750 Ti without pcie connectors.
