The godlike patience Ben exercises towards the future generations of chess clearly demonstrates why he’s the true GOAT of chess. Magnus would murder half of this room in first two minutes.
Yeah. I'd be kicking them out, then we'd have an empty room. No jail sentence, but not exactly good for teaching endgame concepts to kids... Between being entertaining, teaching GREAT chess concepts well, AND being effective with the kids, Ben is awesome, IMO, which is why I enjoy his vids so much. Especially his endgame vids, since that's the only part of the game I play fairly well. In the opening, I STINK, as I refuse to sit around and memorize long opening variations. So I get in trouble in the opening, have to STRUGGLE for the entire middle game to catch up, and then tend to do well in the endgame, as below expert to master strength, MOST players don't play MANY endgames well.
I’m sorry, but how is patience toward children indicative of chess performance? I’m not saying that Ben is not a good teacher, but the chess Goat? You gotta be kidding
I think "GOAT" in this context isn't referring exclusively to gameplay, but rather a holistic assessment of gameplay, teaching, content/culture, facial hair, and people in Ben's chair. @@bogdan.b
Yeah, movies are generally TERRIBLE re portrayal of chess positions. (It makes one wonder if they're terrible about the portrayal of ANYTHING. I mean, they can't get a consultant to ask if it's AT ALL realistic, re the position and play by a decent to strong player?) Blade Runner is another example of TERRIBLE chess portrayal. Sebastian is playing Tyrell a postal type game. But NEITHER of them can see mate in 2, or see a mate in ONE, re the knight sac Rutger Hauer found almost right away, once the knight sac is played? Supposedly Sebastian is smart and Tyrell is supposed to be a super genius, but they can't see ANYTHING in a POSTAL level game? Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh! Which is one reason "The Queen's Gambit" was so great. The chess is actually GOOD, and realistic. I wish they had shown the WHOLE BOARD for all the chess, so the interested players could actually follow the chess. But here's where the internet and UA-cam are actually a very GOOD thing. There are a variety of folks who by hook or crook, figured out very probable lines re what we COULD see, and presented the most interesting game lines, annotated, from the play in various tournament games. And ironically, much of the speed chess scene where she was so dominant against 3 players they DID show the whole board a lot, and I noticed a lot of the motifs and tactics were VERY realistic for speed chess between players who actually are pretty decent. So Kudos to "The Queen's Gambit" for having a good show overall AND doing a good job with the chess, unlike SO many movies which have chess scenes.
Appreciate the video, but "end game" study? Really? Only GM's find that paint-drying exercise fun. Everyone else's games are won/lost in middle game. The part that's actually interesting.
Ah yes, the origin of the legendary "Opposition!!" @3:59
omg adorable
Watching again to see if I remember any of it.
Truth Hurts
I remember Cayden saying "opposition" 😂
Go Kayden! Always wished he was there to teach the endgame classes.

Lighten up Francis.
You'd be surprised how a bit of endgame knowledge improves your middlegame understanding.
