Hi there! I just came across your channel today. Thank you for everything you're sharing! It's great! 🎉
I've had a much different journey than most - the shortest version is immediately after high school I tried to major in Physics, but undiagnosed narcolepsy threw everything off track. Amazingly, I eventually figured it out at age 30 (by which I mean I cured myself & recovered 🥳), but then I had a child at 32. Later, his dad turned out to be "not so nice" as it were and we fled in 2017.
Anyhow... now my son is 16, I'm in a great place (physically, emotionally, etc) and I'm ready to FINALLY get back to my lifelong love of learning. After a lot of contemplation, I've decided I really want to study Cognitive Science. But I don't have my BS yet & it's only offered as a MS or PhD here (UMN), so I'm literally about to jump into pursuing a BS in Neuroscience! 🥳🎉
The reason I'm commenting though is regarding the kid who kept asking about sleep paralysis. I suffered from it on a regular basis starting as a very young child (definitely by age 5), but I also figured out what went into causing them and I know how to help people prevent them.
You should ask if he has ever seen anything weird while he's falling asleep or waking up (i.e. hypnogogic and hypnopompic hallucinations), if he ever feels "sleepy" in the evenings, what it feels like to wake up (refreshed or painful, like coming out of a coma), or if he also has night terrors. There's so much more. If you're interested in how I recovered, and things that his caregiver should ask him about to try to help him, I'd be happy to discuss it with you.
