EHX is an amazing company.I read that a gentleman from legendary synth manufacturers, E.M.S. is an engineer for EHX.Please keep up the good work.You make the world a much more interesting place!
I'm slowly becoming obsessed with this pedal the more I hear it. This must be the billionth odd time Time I've watched this vid. I want one now so bad!
Man I Wish i still had the half dozen or so Electro-Harmonix effects units i had back in the early 80's. A fellow player/friend would buy them, use a month and sell em to me for usually $100! Those originalEX FX boxes had power cords. I had a Memory Man/Electric Mistress-Poly Flanger/Micro Synth (my fave/ a Small Stone.... They sell for a small fortune nowadays on Ebay! This Electro Harmonix (MADE IN THE GOOD OL' USA) Ring Thing Modulatoracalit sounds like a must-have to these frazzled ears :)
Just got this pedal. Believe the hype people. This pedal can do so many things, but you really need a solid understanding of how sound waves work and have a good ear to tune fine tune it to how you like.
@TheGaypers the last clip used a Soul Preacher compressor in front of the Ring Thing and a Stereo Memory Man/Hazarai for delay after. I used a Ibanez Jem guitar and went direct into the board with an amp simulator set to sound like a very clean Fender amp. The Ring Thing settings shown are what I used. Thanks for watching Bill
I just ordered one of these JUST for the pitch shifting! The vibe sounds are awesome too! Honestly, I think calling this thing a Ring modulator is selling it short and EHX could sell a LOT more of these if every one knew what this thing was capable of! I just might have to make some youtube vids when I get mine. ;)
I have one of these. I would say that it gets some really neat sounds, but it is difficult to understand how it works (as in what settings will do what) without a lot of experimentation. The manual has a few settings, but could be improved by simply adding a page that described the settings used in the factory presets, especially since I am not sure that you can return to factory presets once you change them. Can you do a video that demos the settings for factory presets? Thanks.
@fjurden That clip was just the Ring Thing and small amount of delay from a Stereo Memory Man. I played it around the 7th fret with out a capo. If you dig that tone you will love the Ring Thing!
I bought it. Can't remember why I bought (Already have the Amazing MF102) it except I seem to buy all the ones with Bill Rupert demos. And always looking for secret weapon pedals. But now I have some gigs with some surf based sounds so this Thing has the Baritone guitar and vibe/tremolo/etc... Hope I can get it on the floor board. PLZ/THX great video =P
@paulquinn10 A ring mod, by nature is an AM DSB-SC device (SSB in some cases as this may be) so what it means for the dual side-band case (DSB) is that the original frequency (if 'wet' were all the way up) would disappear completely, giving you back the sum of the carrier of the RM and the original tone AND the difference of the RM carrier and the original tone. Tuning this harmonically is rather difficult with most RM devices and you have to mind, very carefully what intervals you play.
that sound at the end is is so cool. it sounds like he set it to tune to the tonic note of the key he was in? so every time he played a not it also played the root note in harmony? can someone corret me on this?
@Effectology actually i'm not sure what a ring mod is exactly... does it add a note to your sound while you're playing or does it changes the envelop sort of like a FM synthesis? or neither maybe...
how much do you reccomend a expression pedal? witch one are you using? i just got the ring mod and i really like it but i feel like im missing out without an expression pedal
Given that this can tune a standard-tuning guitar down to B, does that mean you can control how many semi-tones the pitch gets dropped (not just octaves) ? Another way to ask what I want to know: Can I tune just as easily to C or Bb?
Do you have to tune a ring modulator to the key or note in order to get it to sound like a sound that makes sense. I feel like when I play a chord or something along the lines it kinda has a mind of it's own. how do you get it to make sense?
So you can use this pedal to detune a guitar without actually detuning it and it sounds authentic? Because I've been looking for a pedal that can do that. I don't really want to have to use a ton of different guitars to play different songs. I can get a good detuned sound out of guitar rig's digitech whammy emulator but when I'm not playing through my computer I hear the digitech whammy doesn't do this very well in real life. Does the ring thing also do half steps?
When I first saw this pedal I dismissed it as ring mods are unusable IMO. I just watched this video and am floored. As soon as I get my paycheck, I'm ordering one.
That tuned ring mod sound is incredible, and basically what I wanted. For that alone this pedal is worth it!!
EHX is an amazing company.I read that a gentleman from legendary synth manufacturers, E.M.S. is an engineer for EHX.Please keep up the good work.You make the world a much more interesting place!
That would be Dave Cockrell, inventor of the VCS3 and designer of the Akai samplers. A genius.
One of the most versatile and inspiring pedals i own...
That last setting totally sells this pedal. I love the sound.
this is about the only RM I've heard used that sounded in anyway musical or usable - an excellent job on demo-ing this unit
I'm slowly becoming obsessed with this pedal the more I hear it. This must be the billionth odd time Time I've watched this vid. I want one now so bad!
Yes you can tune it to any note you want +or - two octaves!
On top of that you can save the pitch you pick as a preset.
The Ring Thing has earned a permanent place on my pedalboard.
An auto tuning RM is one of the best ideas ever imagined if you want to use a ring mod musically. Got one of these on the way now! Thanks!
I love how well this thing tracks chords. its pretty awesome!
FINALLY. A video with someone who knows how to use this pedal. Nice touch sampling RATM
I really want this pedal. All because of the tune-able ring mod. So much you could do with that sound.

man, this pedal sounds like the best pedal they have made recently
Just got this pedal. Believe the hype people. This pedal can do so many things, but you really need a solid understanding of how sound waves work and have a good ear to tune fine tune it to how you like.
Excellent guitar work, sold me on this...
Being able to tune it to pitch is probably the most important feature IMO.
you can get that cool tone he has in the beginning with a fast reverse delay on the Memory Man with hazarai. Great, unique sound.
bill ruppert is THE EH guy!!!
i love this sound thanks great player

Bill
freaking killer tone, sounds SICK!! 1:55
that tuning riff he plays is fucking sick
great demo...
Best demo ever.

I dig the knobies!
2:20
I would buy one, even just for the whammy pedal feature, as well as it being able to do a lot more than a dedicated whammy pedal.
I'd get it for the drop tuning alone. If I didn't already spend all my money on guitars...
killing in the name solo for teh win!
sweet pedal
@Effectology
oh thanks a lot!
i'll do the research for sure, that could be pretty interesting with the tuning switch function.
that's something I want to know too.
I watched other demos and, if I'm not mistaken, it does
bill!!! the genius!!!
@deadwhite ha totally agree! Bill Ruppert is so good he makes me wanna buy all his stuff

Insane!!!! Awesome.
@Jeedan yeah, essentially that's what ring mods do. I honestly think it's one of my favorite effects on a guitar.
Nice!

i like the intro. its pretty
@raymondjamesrivera me too. It's like 8 beautiful analog pedals in one. brilliant idea. I love it.
Who doesn't? hehehehe
Very cool demosntration of using.
mouldeck
Thats the Ring Mod!
Bill the thrill!!!
I want this so bad

Yum yum yum! =)
@Tracebebo
Thanks that's the HOG in freeze mode.
Check out the new Freeze pedal if you like that sound!
Bill
EPIC

The Jack Conte demos are cool, but this is about as straight-foreword as it gets, and much more informative.
cool i could use this as a whammy pedal!
i want every ehx pedal there is even though you cant use 99% of them in normal guitar playing
Yes
Awesome Demo!! (as usual) Does this get pinch and natural harmonics when using for drop-tuning?
When is this coming out and how much? I'm glad I waited to get a ring mod because this sounds amazing!
@chase1410
I would try one of the Boss exp pedals.
They will give you all the whammy effects.
@Chainsaw20x7
That's too fucking awesome.
Yup! Even better than the POG too, since you can detune the upper octave a bit..
That's a truly awesome demo, Bill! Now I MUST have one...... another step towards divorce, but worth the risk.
Thanks again, Kit Morgan
that sound at the end is is so cool. it sounds like he set it to tune to the tonic note of the key he was in? so every time he played a not it also played the root note in harmony? can someone corret me on this?
Can you demo every pedal ever made? Please :)?
hey whatever happned to the "electric mistress" i had that pedal bwt and loved it....haven't seen nor heard of it
@Effectology actually i'm not sure what a ring mod is exactly... does it add a note to your sound while you're playing or does it changes the envelop sort of like a FM synthesis? or neither maybe...
amazing demo!I need one!!!!!!!!!!! how much???
sure can.

2:25 blew my mind. Does anyone know if any other pedals are being used to produce those amazing sounds? Also are there any songs that use that effect?
is there a way to modify the note pitch after autotunning it by pressing the tune knob?
Do you have to tune a ring modulator to the key or note in order to get it to sound like a sound that makes sense. I feel like when I play a chord or something along the lines it kinda has a mind of it's own. how do you get it to make sense?
what makes sound that very last note played so low, like pitched 1 or 2 octaves down?
Wow.......
So you can use this pedal to detune a guitar without actually detuning it and it sounds authentic? Because I've been looking for a pedal that can do that. Is it possible to reproduce the sound of a twelve string guitar with this like the pog? I'm thinking of buying one.
@downfader2
When I get the money Im thinking about buying this for my acoustic/electric ukulele
I was assuming it's just another one of those horrid ring modulators and man was I wrong. Damn fine sounding pedal.
When I first saw this pedal I dismissed it as ring mods are unusable IMO. I just watched this video and am floored. As soon as I get my paycheck, I'm ordering one.
This is too good to be used by guitar players. It´s something for the keyboards of course.
This should just be called the Morello Pedal.
Hi!!
I'd like to know if the Ring Thing can do tremolo kinda like the Pulsar. Thx Ehx.
How exactly does the Ring Thing color the sound at 1:27?
@Effectology oh yeah
How exactly does the Ring Thing color at 1:27?
I REALLY wish this thing had a MIDI input.. :-/
It just drops the pich down
2:03 killing in the name solo?!
3;07, breaking Benjamin tone!!!!!!!
1:00 "electioneering" eh?
I might have to stop watching Bill's demos...they make me want to buy every box...but I play blues...somebody stop me!
@coooorey I agree. PGS demos are so boring.
i hate when they don't use it like i intend to... this demo is good, but useless for me.
