    Michio Kaku:
    Dr. Michio Kaku is the co-founder of string field theory, and is one of the most widely recognized scientists in the world today. He has written 4 New York Times Best Sellers, is the science correspondent for CBS This Morning and has hosted numerous science specials for BBC-TV, the Discovery/Science Channel. His radio show broadcasts to 100 radio stations every week. Dr. Kaku holds the Henry Semat Chair and Professorship in theoretical physics at the City College of New York (CUNY), where he has taught for over 25 years. Well, you would want to be able to see it first. So, you would want to be in a relatively dark location to see the Milky Way. The center of the Milky Way will appear as a bulge in the cosmic dust with a bright light crackling through. The Black Hole will be in the center (although you won't be able to see it).
      The Sagittarius constellation will be near, in the southern sky. Usually to the left of the center of the Milky Way. They will appear as an Archer facing the constellation of Scorpius. Usually depicted as a Centaur with a bow, but it was originally thought to be an Archer standing straight with his bow.

      If you know the constellation Orion, Sagittarius and the galactic centre are in the opposite part of the sky to Orion.

  • @Ryakki

    The matter that forms and feeds a singularity breaks down to a point where it's not even considered a phase of matter... but obviously it still generates gravity, as a black hole can grow as it "feeds", increasing its' gravitational signature. If the... stuff... that forms a black hole still interacts with gravity, even if it's not classical matter in any way we understand, that means that it must still have mass. Weight is the interaction of gravity with mass, and so, a black hole has weight.

    When dust clouds are swallowed by black holes, they get pulled REALLY hard. That pull causes friction, which in turn heats the gas up until it emits light.
    At least I think it's something like this, but yeah. The black hole itself isn't emmitting the light, the stuff it swallows is.

    i think the singularity at the heart of a black hole is infinitely small and infinitely dense, but the event horizon area around it can be quite big, as it is with supermassive blackholes at the heart of galaxies.

  • @EtherasFox
    @EtherasFox 11 років тому

    A black hole is less a function of mass than density. The important factor is the warping of space/time. So a black hole could be smaller than a star in mass, provided that the mass is all tightly compacted into a singularity.

  • @215Fenix

    One thing for sure it would suck if there was a black-hole big enough to swallow Antares, or even multiple galaxies at a time, but then again what would happen, what by enter a one of them it alter human abilities, but drastically similar to being on the floor compared to the moon you weigh less thus jumping higher. Be interesting to what would happen if its non-threatening.

    You don't hear the words in your head when you read e.g. a book? Well that's what he meant. For example when I read a Discworld novel the voice in my head doing the storytelling sounds different than the voice of e.g. Rincewind saying something in the book, Death has again another voice when I read passages where he speaks. So when he reads Kaku's books the voice in his head sounds like Kaku.

    Well motion is relative. Think of some of the many ways we move around: earth orbiting the sun, our system orbiting in the milky way, the milky way traveling through space, and the universe itself expanding. It's a lot easier to think of if perhaps everything else is moving by.

  • @capefeather
    @capefeather 12 років тому

    Well, I wouldn't call it a failing. What does it even mean for one point object A to overlap a point O for an instant in time, and experience "infinite gravity"? This kind of singularity isn't so bad, since the rest of the path of A is consistent and you can just "fill in" the missing dot if you want. It's like how the function f = 2x/x is undefined when x = 0, but the rest of f evaluates to 2, so you can "complete" f by setting f(0) = 2.

    Yes it's a bit weird but that's because kaku is one of the few scientists trying to explain things to people who for example never studied anything to do with physics and do not have the vocabulary to make it easier to explain these things to them. Outer space is the laymans term in this case for interstellar and intergalactic space I think. iow outside any solar system, and yes there is a big difference between these 2 spaces. near stars space is less vacuous has solar winds etc.

    Hi! Dr. Michio kaku, here is a question :- Are black holes actually wormholes or something similar as nothing escapes from it and perhaps gets transported into higher dimensions or other universes? (I think Black holes are the edge of that point where things gets transported/teleported into other dimensions/universes. And also its pitch black because there is nothing because everything got teleported)

    • @macbrewster9977

      Probably just a placeholder for new energy at some great future. Your personal info would be irrevocably lost in the process. Wormholes are a totally separate theory.

  • @flyingsoloflyinghigh
    @flyingsoloflyinghigh 12 років тому

    Everything in the Universe is moving due to Universe expansion, its just that some things expand faster than others. So the "wandering black hole" has a set trajectory that is harder to skew than most trajectories due to its massive center of mass. Our galaxy, and Earth in fact, is moving a lot faster than one might think. Sure we rotate/orbit around the sun but our solar system is on the same trajectory as our galaxy, even though we orbit around our own black hole.

    Here's a thought... could what people think are ghosts just mini black holes? ..like he said they're invisible but distort light ... how often do u hear people say I saw a ghost and when they describe it, its's just like a white light for only a few seconds. Could bit be they're actually seeing small black holes passing via the earth?

    They can calculate the mass of the black hole by measuring the distortions. They can measure things about the stars behind the black hole's path. Through calculations, they can determine the mass of the black hole. They also see phenomena like gravitational lensing, which can produce 2 images of the same galaxy(or star) that is directly behind the black hole. But yeah, I guess it could be some really massive machine that has the same properties as a black hole from our view. Unlikely though.

    one more thing about black holes if our universe can be discribed as a sheet of spacetime then suppose you have multiple sheets and that a blackhole is a point in which gravity has become so great that it has cause two of these sheets to coinside or merge if only at a point with each other?

    easy way to understand. put a stopper in your kitchen sink. fill it to the brim. color the water dark enough to not see the drain. unstopper the drain. and put your hand near the drain. you can't see the drain, but you can't feel it. its similar.

    lol, besides the being torn apart aspect... The pull of the earth would hold you down as the black hole pulls on you tearing you apart....

    can't we use energy or store energy from black whole

    someone else answered in a more complex matter, and said in closing they thought it was more belief then anything esle. partly true. we believe that's the case based on what we know so far.
    put simply:
    what causes light? energy/heat
    what causes enregy/heat? friction
    what causes friction, movement of particles against eachother
    thus the accelerated movement of objects being drawn into a black hole creates the light due to increased friction. it's not made by the hole, it's a symptom of it.
