I had alot of sympathy for Ahmanet after this movie. She was promised control of an entire kingdom from birth until young adulthood, and as soon as she gets a baby brother, all promises revoked. That being said, you also can't help but love their idea of a good camera angle. I swear half of every shot behind her is at butt level (typical).
And in the meantime, Imothep was condemned to an equally gruesome fate, despite the fact he had done nothing nearly as depraved as Ahmanet, his only crime being in love with the pharaoh's wife. Never mind the fact he had some genuinely sympathetic qualities, as well as a decidedly sad ending that concluded his role as a tragic villain. And yet you somehow sympathise with a familicidal, fratricidal, megalomaniacal bitch, despite the fact that she's an irredeemable monstrosity who did everything to deserve the gruesome punishment she received, as well as having the life sucked out of her akin to putting down a rabid dog that is beyond help. @@Mr_Triscuit Very, very true, but in this case she wasn't exactly what I'd consider completely evil. She was to become pharaoh but was denied her place in favor of her younger brother, she was unhappy about it of course and assassinated her family. Wrong way to handle it? True. But to be honest there's plenty of people that would do the exact same thing if not worse, because no one's perfect, everyone's an evil asshole in their own ways. Lastly, what do you expect from ancient politics?
Sofia Boutella is so pretty in the thumbnail! Also, regardless of how bad it did at the box office, I still like this film! I like how they portrayed Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as a sort of “split personality” rather than just a hugely deformed man.
vebration35 dude even though I know it’s not counted as part of it Dracula untold I think is really the start of the dark universe and despite the critics and everyone hating the new mummy I thought it actually wasn’t bad and I liked the idea the main character became the “mummy” at the end
@eating sugar no papa Really? I didn't know that. All I heard was the movie didn't do well. Or maybe it's the critics thing. Rotten Tomato and stuff? I really hope they'll reconsider though. Franchised movies are fun. I didn't like one-off movies. Feels like a waste of time.
The fact Alex Kurtzman is still finding work in Hollywood while hundreds of genuinely talented screenwriters rot in obscurity is proof positive that sometimes, evil DOES win.

The movie was honestly not that bad, it really could've paved the way to more amazing movies in the dark universe. It's a shame it didn't do well in the box office.
The problem with this movie was the storyline was too boring. There was something interesting parts but not memorable. The story just didn’t keep me attentive to the movie
Honestly it really was not a bad movie that folks talk about, i really enjoy the beauty of it, the locations that was set up, and the princess. But with the plots i wish they did something different
I gotta be honest this has probably gotta be one of the more caring villains we have seen in a while (and no I'm not counting villains who turn to good guys) cuz she constantly is asking for him to give in to her and is telling him she wants to take his pain away. That and she shows concern and shock when he stabs himself further proving she cares for him and is indeed in love with him.i genuinely believe Ahment loved him and cared about Nick
Waynesworkd Starwars yeah she's weird like that. I mean, I guess its like toxic love or something. She does genuinely love him but she is like so evil and stuff and very violent and brutal....and extremely possessive and jealous.
@Abongile Zolani Peterson true but my point was despite her being all evil with the deeds she's done, she didn't just want him as a vessel for Set but to make the man who she loved a living God in return for saving her life
@@waynesworldstarwars7035 I just watched it. It looks like, the writers/directors were confused about the relationship between both Nick and Ahmanet. It looks like she really liked him, on the other hand it looked like she just wanted power. She selected him, not by choice, remember
@Tony Montana this is true but I think she wanted both power but she also wanted a man to rule by her side we see this in a cutscene with her "sacrifice" to be empowered by set. So really it's a matter of her wanting to rule in power and having a man by her side possessed by set
I honestly don't know why the critics put down this movie. This is real acting by professionals. There's something about this movie that moves me. The Mummy trilogy by Brendan Fraser does not move me like this. This film is nice.
You know what I've actually would have understood if they decided to make an entire Universal studio movie Universe based on the universe of the mummy. for me it would have made a little bit more sense if the mummy was just the precursor to many other explorer-esk characters and it would have been fascinating to see every villain be somewhat reminiscent to a movie monster in the same way that the mummy did.
When the the villain hits in this scene it's really impactful. Tom was really thrown all over the place like a ragdoll. You gotta appreciate the fight scene
That one was a genuinely fun, enjoyable and well casted movie. This on the other hand was some Hollywood god awful attempt at building some stupid monster cinematic universe, which thankfully seems dead in the water.
Tom Cruise’s The Mummy will never live up to the interest and excitement of watching Cricket. Test Cricket that is, wouldn’t want to give it to hard a target! After watching “Some” of this thing(Movie?) realised that there was a wall with some paint drying on it that desperately needed watching! Tried to skip to the good bits. There were NO good bits. Even makes Man of Steel look, ok?
Um no... And I'm a girl. Lol. I felt sorry for her because she only wanted to be Set's queen. While I don't condone murdering children at all.. she did all that for that Egyptian god.. just an unbiased opinion sort of.
The biggest mistake of Universal was giving Tom Cruise SO much creative control. I would even go so far as to say casting him in the first place was a mistake. He took the story focus away from the whole _Mummy_ theme (which the film was even named after) and put it on his character...a random Ethan Hunt-esque type character. In fact, I don't even remember his character's name in this film. I just refer to him as "Tom Cruise", because that's who he always ends up playing anyway, no matter the role; _Tom Cruise_ . This felt more like a _Mission Impossible_ film than _The Mummy_ . Which is awful because Sofia Boutella was absolutely _terrifying_ in this film....I _LOVED IT_ . But then Tom Cruise couldn't handle the star being someone other than _his_ character. This was especially disappointing because the whole _Dark Universe_ concept had SO MUCH potential. They should not have allowed the Dr. Heckle character to go "Mr. Hyde" in this film. Like, I enjoyed his introduction. He could have been a nice little wink to the audience on what is to come... but having him transform could have been saved for a future film. If they reboot this film, I hope they ditch the whole Time Cruise character.
Personally, I think if he destroyed the stone at the cost of his life and that woman's life for the greater good. And the organisation came in and captured Ahmanet once again, it would have been a reasonably good movie. It would have at least paved the way for future series with other heroes, but they screwed it up. I would pay to watch a dark universe.
Hmm but think of it, if Nick destroyed the stone and Ahmanet was imprisoned again, what stops her doing it again? I mean she appears to clever and would terrorize again. Propably would trying to find another source of ultimate power, maybe. This is my thought.
Wow actually got something right in Egyptian mythology, a selfless offer to Seth will grant life too those who are most dearest. Only drawback as is any deal with the devil, you gain a part of the darkness
Seth is not the devil,He's is the god of chaos,Storms and the unknown.Yes,He did killed his brother Ausar out of jealousy,That just makes Seth a jerk because his brother was more popular.
By the way. I can't understand why ahmanet want nick to give in in order to perform the ritual. She didn't seem to give two shits about his approval in their first interaction. She was just planning on stabbing him and that's it. Man. I really do hate crap inconsistent writing. As many people have said already. Nick is the perfect candidate to just give in and turn evil. They set up all the clues, that he is quite a bit of an egotistical asshole. So what the hell happened?. He just did a 180 turn, and suddenly, he is the good guy?. Why?. He clearly didn't give to much of a dam for that chick when he screwed her over and stole her research, so wtf happened here?. I guess todays writers are truly worthless, and just rely on the special effects in order to sell a movie. Maybe that tactic kind of worked once. But now people are getting tired of it. Just give us a proper story FFS.
I so agree with you there. I can still deal with plotholes, but character inconsistencies piss me off. There are writers out there writing hella consistent (and good!) novels and getting far less requital than this film did, even though it didn't do well in the box office - and that's sad.
She wanted him to love her back out of his own freewill just as she wanted from her father but was denied that right. This is the very reason She went to crazy lengths in selling her soul to set(whom she didn’t know was the devil himself). During her time, they were all crazy and diversed with godS that Were never really gods.
@@DanielKim2024G She wanted the love and acceptance of her father, sure. But to say that this was the primary reason that made her sell her soul?. No. That's not accurate at all. She could have asked Set to do something about this in particular if that was the case. She wanted power. She wanted to be Queen and was denied that right, despite having worked hard to earn her strides. And she got overthrown just because her father had a male heir. I believe it was also made clear in the movie as well. Power and to rule the world was what she wanted. And Set was her ticket to fulfill this dream. Atleast that's what i understood for the most part. But even if what you say is true. It still doesn't justify why she didn't wanted Nicks consent at first. And then desperately trying to get him on her side, during the final act. Its just lazy writing, plain and simple. And she killed her father by the way. She could have let him live and try to earn his respect showing him her new found power. But nope. She just killed him to ascend on the throne as fast as possible. Anyways, I'm talking too much. I'll stop here 😅.
I don't know if it's sharing so much if it's Nick's ability to contain in because of some sort of inner strength, and he channels that energy, but it's hard to control, as is shown at the end. It's not so much Set sharing his power so much as Set attempting to possess him and Nick being able to resist the possession enough to utilize the power, but he can't control it well yet. Set is still trying to break out and possess him. He's kinda like if Avatar Korra tried to hold in Vaatu. She's eventually learn how to control it. It's very much like Raava except she has to filter his dark energy.
Kharn526 it’s because he cracked the crystal in the handle of the knife before he stabbed himself, which doing so made it so set didn’t have complete control over him. It kind of hindered the spell so to speak
I don't care what people think, this is an awesome movie. I LOVE this movie. It's passionate and loveable. Tom Cruise and the lady Mummy are cool. I feel this movie is underrated by the critics. It deserves an award. Maybe they are missing Brendan Fraser. I don't care, I love this movie.
It would of been sick if they actually ended up linking this and Dracula untold for the dark universe. Would of been sick to see them potentially fight each other or team up together
Real talk... Sofia Boutella is actually a really talented actress. This movie would've been so much better if they didn't cast Tom Cruise and if Ahmanet's plans were seen through. They could've absolutely made a sequel to this if they didn't choose Tom Cruise to be the main character and if Ahmanet's plans really did happen. Someone down here in the comments said there could've been a sequel where they try to find Nick and try to release him from Set's grasp, and I completely agree with it. Tom Cruise just wasn't meant for the part. I feel like the only thing that fucked this movie up is exactly that, because Tom Cruise wasn't meant for the part, which made the movie feel a little... awkward, I guess would be the right word? He just didn't fit in with the rest of the cast. Also I think we all can agree that Sofia is hot. She's even hot as Ahmanet. Whoever she's dating/whoever she dates in the future is one lucky son of a bitch.
Originally the ending was that Ahmanet achieved what she wanted and that Set in Nick's body was to join her with taking over the world apparently, don't quote me on that but apparently that was the rumored original ending.

Why?
The face she made when he started running toward her in the beginning was like, dude are you serious rn😂

@@DanielKim2024G
She wanted the love and acceptance of her father, sure.
And then there are those movies with bad quality animation but good stories and messages.
If he approves, they can live in love. Otherwise its just abt power
I am unable to understand why people hate this movie... but Its one of my favourite and I was eagerly waiting for its 2nd part
Tom Cruise can pull up everything...literally every...... respect . Hope he makes more of the Dark universe movies
This movie could have something great...Sofia boutella wasn't the problem but Tom cruise was not the right choice for this role
Paul Hampton true, but why did she speak English n not her native language
O K
Probably some macguffin where she learnt the language in a mysterious way so she could converse with modern people
The problem wasn’t the actors I don’t think. It was definitely the story and focus on world building than telling a story.
Sean Austin I totally agree,I think Sofia boutella was the best thing in it
Paul Hampton She wasn’t a great villain, but she did a wonderful job with what she was given.
Set would never share his power, he killed his brother because of this what makes you think he would bestow it upon a no name mortal ?
I don't know if it's sharing so much if it's Nick's ability to contain in because of some sort of inner strength, and he channels that energy, but it's hard to control, as is shown at the end. It's not so much Set sharing his power so much as Set attempting to possess him and Nick being able to resist the possession enough to utilize the power, but he can't control it well yet. Set is still trying to break out and possess him. He's kinda like if Avatar Korra tried to hold in Vaatu. She's eventually learn how to control it. It's very much like Raava except she has to filter his dark energy.
Yea, I was just being a smart ass! :)
Kharn526 pta ni bhai Tu Kya bol raha hai
Kharn526 it’s because he cracked the crystal in the handle of the knife before he stabbed himself, which doing so made it so set didn’t have complete control over him. It kind of hindered the spell so to speak
