    I watched an eSpares video, and it basically went "bish, bosh, bush" and he had it over the tensioner with his bare hands. No chance! Screwdriver lever method you show was still hard work, but I did it!!! Thanks!!!

    • @petermarshall4830
      @petermarshall4830 3 роки тому

      I agree - watched the eSpares video and no chance! Got these 3 points of advice from a product review on Amazon and it worked a treat, so might be worth a look:
      * Firstly, ensure you have identified the correct path for the belt to follow.
      * Secondly, you will need an 8mm spanner for the securing bolts and a ring spanner or, better still, a ratchet spanner will make the job easier. There is not much clearance room for a socket and ratchet but if you have a small 1/4" drive set that may work too depending on the design of your tumble dryer.
      * Thirdly, to fit and tension the belt, loosely attach the bracket to the motor with the inboard mounting bolt first, ensuring that the pulley can pivot freely past the motor casing. Then pivot the bracket and jockey wheel towards the drum and route the vee drive belt around the jockey wheel and drive spindle. Next pivot and lever the bracket and wheel back into the correct installation position, tensioning the belt, and ensure that the metal clip formed on the back of the bracket engages in the motor casing. Finally, insert the outboard machine screw and tighten both screws to finish the installation.

      @@petermarshall4830 I was close to doing this, but what stopped me was I personally thought that might be creating a rod for my own back. The drum will be constantly spinning/vibrating - and the bolts will be tensioned to accommodate that. I was worried if the bolts weren't down tight enough afterwards, with all the vibration of the machine working - they'd work themselves loose and the loose drum potentially damaging/killing the tumble dryer. But if it works for you then great! Could be a backup option for those struggling with the screwdriver technique as that too was still hard work, but easier than bare hands as per eSpares video!. The screw driver level technique worked great for me - although I wouldn't want to do it again in a hurry now I know what I'll be up against!!!

    Thanks so much for this video! I was convinced I'd bought the wrong belt. Bit of a tip: pulling the belt towards you and holding it tense for a few minutes will gradually stretch it, and make it much easier. Screwdriver definitely still required!

    Thank you Chris...This little tutorial has been so refreshing, as I had absolutely horrendous problems trying to copy the simplicity shown in other videos.
    Practically gave myself a hernia trying. I too used the "Screwdriver" method. The only way I could get the belt back on.
    Thank you for proving I'm no weakling. 👍😁

    Thank you ever so much for this. If anybody thinks they're belt is too short because it levels with the back of the pulley wheel. It's not, the belt is actually quite stretchy and this method does work.

    You're a saint mate. I've an IDC75 and the belt tore to pieces as the pully had shit itself. Got the new belt on and replaced the pully. Was having a lot of difficulty stretching the belt as your man made it seem easier than it was. I'd say the belt he used wasn't a new belt and was well stretched. Lifted the machine onto the table to make it a bit easier. Thanks very much fella 👍🏻.

    You absolute legend!! Iwatched those other videos where they tell you to just slip the belt over the edge then rotate the drum. Not a chance in hell that would work. I had my dryer in complete bits. Took off the pulley and nearly the motor too , but then found this. Thank you.
    I just wish these had a tension spring like the Bosch motors so you can just rotate the motor back.

    Yes, thank you! What you said is EXACTLY what I thought after watching those videos and then trying it myself (and of course they all have comments turned off so I couldn't tell if it was just me). Ours is a Hotpoint condenser dryer, but it looks almost identical to this one, and the new belt is exactly as hard to stretch onto the wheel as it looks in your video. I've just spent the last several hours fighting with it and rewatching all the videos I could find to try to figure out how they were doing it so easily.
    This video finally just came up as a related video after rewatching one of those yet again (it didn't come up when I was searching - perhaps it it would help to add the keywords "tumble dryer" to the title?). I'd already tried levering it on with a screwdriver on the plastic bit towards the back (like you showed at first), but all that managed to do was bend the edge of the plastic pulley wheel (which is a new one I'd just fitted as well).
    I didn't think there was anywhere else suitable to lever against on this model, but after watching this I've just tried with it against the motor itself at the front like you did. I still couldn't get it far enough at first (and was worried about bending the pulley wheel again as the screwdriver was pressing against it), but then I tried adding another screwdriver under the lever point (at right angles to the first screwdriver), using that as another lever to lift the lever point upwards (and slightly forwards to reduce the pressure from the screwdriver on the wheel) and that finally got it far enough up and over the pulley wheel within a few seconds! I don't think I would have got there without this video, so THANKYOU! :D

    I recently replaced mine and what i did was after i removed the spring which allowed me to fit the belt without tension, i then used a ratchet strap to pull the spring to latch it over the tensioner. Worked a treat! Hope this will help you too 👍🏻

    Love your comment..."pop and on it goes". I know the video you talk about. I have fitted a few of these and they never just "pop on". Lol Great video for others to use and nice to see you put the belt over the jockey wheel on the correct side.👍 He must have stretched the hell out that belt to get on that easy, never with a new belt. Interesting he didn't showing running afterwards? I suspect the belt would have slipped if you put a full wet load in.

  • @rosssouthard671
    @rosssouthard671 2 роки тому

    Thanks for this Chris! Exactly the same experience as all the other commenters. Even after stretching, belt seemed 3 or 4 inches short of getting anywhere near the pulley but at least this gave me the confidence that it was the right belt and it would stretch with perseverance. Was hard work though! The Espares video is great apart from this bit and also dropping it round the front of the drum. Guy did it easily on his machine. I had to practically dismantle the front to get a gap to get the belt round. Thanks for posting this!

    Chris, you're an absolute legend. Like most commenting here, I too had seen the video and the lack of effort putting the belt around the pulley. My conclusion was I was doing something wrong. That video has comments switched off so now help there. Then I saw your video. I was so glad you and others struggled too. Even after watching you do it I still couldn't pull it over, I was using so much force that the tumbler was moving. In the end I put the screwdriver through just as you had done but grabbed the other end with some pliers so I could use two hands, with my head against the drum I gave and almighty pull and then it happened. Almost better than sex 😂. Misses is chuffed now but not as much as I am. Thanks again mate, liked and subbed 👍

    Done hundreds of these. The way you do it basically the same way I do it myself. You can buy a tool to help but with a bit of practice this way is just as simple. Also be prepared to replace the pulley (most common reason for belt snapping is pulley failing) or if pulley still good with no play, put some grease on the shaft while machine stripped to extend its short life expectancy.

    • @chriswouse7713
      @chriswouse7713  3 роки тому

      Some good advise there. Thing is with the pulley being plastic, would you have to use a silicone based grease on the shaft?

    • @timharris6983
      @timharris6983 3 роки тому +1

      @@chriswouse7713 the pulley has a metal sleeve in the centre, brass I think so should be fine with most types of grease. To be honest given the failure rate on these, anything would be better than nothing.

    Vero, nei vari video si vede montare la cinghia sul tendicinghia in un modo che sfrega sulla parte in plastica che copre il condensatore e di conseguenza alla lunga si rompe, infatti la mia è sporca di nero in quel punto, perciò anch'io avevo pensato di montarla come hai fatto tu e lo farò appena arriva la cinghia nuova.
