  • The Carne Mountain High Route is located in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, part of Washington’s Cascade Mountains. The route spans approximately 20-23 miles and involves 7,000-9,000 feet of elevation gain, depending on the side trips you choose to take.
My trip lasted two days and one night and included side trips to the Carne Mountain summit, the Mount Maude summit, and the Ice Lakes Basin. This is a good entry-level high route, since it has minimal Class 3 scrambling and limited route-finding, it’s still an aggressive hike that demands caution and experience. If you do this route during the fall I recommend a weekday trip to avoid the crowds who come to see the alpine larches.
